To let you all know that disabled are having their benefits cut

AndNowItsSeven · 11/12/2015 19:26

The DWP has today launched a consultation aimed at cutting the number of people eligible for the daily living component of personal independence payment (PIP) by up to 35%. The cuts will be aimed at claimants who qualify for PIP because of their use of aids and appliances and may include replacing awards with discretionary voucher payments.
The press release and consultation document published today claim that 35% of all daily living allowance awards are based solely on the claimant’s need to use aids and appliances.
This is flawed as
A)often disabled people require assistant, however Atos are only scoring then as needing an aid.
B) even if you disability needs listed in the pip form can be met by aids most people will have many other needs not mentioned on the form.
To suggest the only extra cost of being disabled for those claimants, is the cost of aids is absurd and insulting.
The consultation ends on 29 January 2016, conveniently over the Christmas New year Period.
Please if you can take the time to respond.

becca Cake Flowers Wine and Chocolate

You have my full empathy I had a Tory MP untill the last GE when our constituency decided to get rid, most people didn't know who the hell he was Shock.

seasidesally · 11/12/2015 22:10

how worrying

MiscellaneousAssortment · 11/12/2015 22:12

Can anyone start one? This is very crap but I'm barely ar to post on here let alone construct coherent sentences to persuade the masses!

Or is there one already?

Becca19962014 · 11/12/2015 22:15

Everyone in my county knows my MP. Very good at PR , goes to all the right events, supports all the right causes and then does whatever they like in parliment and tells lies about their voting record being misrepresented by theyworkforyou.com

38degrees is good for campaigns, there was one for the cut to ESA WRAG but it failed. The problem is not enough people actually realise the "we will protect the most vulnerable in society" isn't true.

seasidesally · 11/12/2015 22:25

the majority of people are not disabled and dont think it could happen to them so support will be less than the tc debate

wonder if now Jeremy Corbin is leader it may gather pace,he wont agree with it,has power to state the torys intentions, has some clout being in opposition

it would be very helpful if he could get behind it

AndNowItsSeven · 11/12/2015 23:01

"Also, how you can say Samcro that David Cameron is anti-disability (Ivan?)'
sorry couldn't reply until on pc.
because although of course like any parent scameron cared for his son, he was never a carer doing the 24/7 he has no idea.
that is why people like my adult child are being fucked over by him and his ilk.

I wish I thought that people would care, but they won't. they think disability won't happen to them....but when it does they weep and wail and crowd fund.

Mencap sent out an email with the following link couple of days ago. Makes for grim reading

Fucking Tory wankers

DyslexicScientist · 12/12/2015 07:03

This disgusting.

I do think lots of people on WTC should have been cut and not the disabled.

At work we are very busy, but lots of part time workers won't increase their hours as they won't be any better off and will mess up their benefits. These WTC are putting people off doing more hours, thsybcsnt be right. Sobwe have to employs expensive agency workers.

Samcro · 12/12/2015 09:40

look how quickly this thread dropped. compared to one about Ct's or CB.
maybe it that had been in the title!!

AndNowItsSeven · 12/12/2015 10:30

I agree Samcro , and the government no that disabled people are an easy target.

Extract from David Cameron's Tory Party conference speech (with honest sub-titles)

When you put your cross in the Conservative box, you were putting your faith in us.
(unless you're disabled)
To finish the job we started.
(to screw over vulnerable people)
To back working people.
(unless you're disabled)
To deliver security for you and your family.
(unless you're disabled)
And I’ll tell you now: we will not let you down.
(unless you're disabled)

building2015 · 12/12/2015 11:53

I sent an email to my MP and the PIP consultation email which is at the end of the paper.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind terribly if DLA/PIP was means tested. I mean, everyone sort of thinks it is a bit weird that the Camerons claimed DLA and I can understand that.

EXCEPT that people use it for a shorthand for if you are REALLY disabled. So when you have an invisible disability, the status accorded by PIP/DLA actually becomes quite important as a signpost 'I am a vulnerable person.' plus the gateway issue mentioned earlier.

Does that make sense?

descalina · 12/12/2015 12:03

Could someone give me some help/pointers for a coherent response to the consultation? I admit to having no experience of disability benefits and I stint really know the details of the system but I think it's appalling that cuts are being proposed so want to add my voice..

AndNowItsSeven · 12/12/2015 12:04

Yes it makes sense however I don't agree with means testing as the levels would be constantly reduced and it's a slippery slope.

Sallystyle · 12/12/2015 12:20

My dh is still on DLA.

He currently has DLA for life. I assume he will have to move to PIP soon, I'm surprised nothing has been done about that so far.

And yes, I'm very very scared about what will happen when they are cut.

From what I have read it will be very hard for him to get PIP based on the questions. Well, no employer will keep him for long when he has days where he genuinely won't be able to turn up, or weeks where he can't leave the house.

Samcro · 12/12/2015 12:24

"Camerons claimed DLA "
I hate them , but they didn't. they got DLA for their son.
I think it's right they did and would hate it to be means tested, it is to cover the extra costs of being disabled. rich or poor, those costs are the same.

MrFMercury · 12/12/2015 12:33

I currently get dla and that's it. I'm due to renew next year and I find it a terrifying prospect without all this.
I love my children and husband but sometimes I look at my life insurance and wish there was a way I could go without them knowing it was deliberate. We're already choosing between food and bills and it's only going to get worse.

BeyondJinglebells · 12/12/2015 12:41

Fuck. I was one of the first lot to apply for pip (and very luckily get enhanced for both) and my renewal is due in soon. As if that wasnt causing me enough stress, now i have this too.

I cant think of words bad enough to call them. I hope they all die in horrible ways.

SteamPunkGoth · 12/12/2015 12:43

I'm scared for my sons future.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 12/12/2015 12:52

Sorry to go off at a tangent, but there was no real u-turn on tax credits. The changes are still being applied to universal credit, and everyone on tax-credits is being moved to UC.

Just in case anyone thought the Tories were reasonable people who listen to their electorate.

BeyondJinglebells · 12/12/2015 13:03

I hate to say it, but i would much rather tc were cut (obviously i hope more that nothing is cut but its unlikely). But there was public support behind that because so many of the recipients are people who have a voice, the 'squeezed middle'.

kali110 · 12/12/2015 13:06

I don't know why i've gone through so much fucking stress fighting for pip now Sad
