I feel unwell and it's a trek taking younger children. They say they aren't bothered if I go or not ...?

Aeroflotgirl · 09/12/2015 15:31

I wouldent in those circumstances.

DrivingMissLazy1 · 09/12/2015 15:41

Depends on what sort of unwell? I would want to go under any circumstances.

Loftsequin · 09/12/2015 15:43

I hate them Blush and I've already been to one performance this week so am feeling performed-d out.

Daisysbear · 09/12/2015 15:43

If you're really unwell don't go. If it's just that you're feeling tired and not 100% I would, personally, make the effort.

manicinsomniac · 09/12/2015 15:44

If your children genuinely aren't bothered then no, YANBU.

Are you sure they're not just saying that because they know you don't feel well, though? In my experience children get quite upset if there's no one there to watch them perform.

I've never really seen my children's school performances because I'm the drama teacher so I'm either backstage, in the lighting box or have my nose in the script. But it's only recently that even my oldest has started to realise that just because I'm there doesn't mean I'm watching her!

Owllady · 09/12/2015 15:45

I missed one of my son's shows and he still hasn't forgiven me ten years on Confused I personally hate them as well, but it seems important to children that you are there
I hope you feel better soon

Loftsequin · 09/12/2015 15:47

Really? I was never bothered with my parents!

OP posts:
RictusGrimace · 09/12/2015 15:47

You hate them? Shock

Loftsequin · 09/12/2015 15:54

Hate what, nativities? Yes, why are you shocked?

OP posts:
Owllady · 09/12/2015 15:55

I hate them as well
It's the most mind dumbing thing ever Confused
But then again, I'd never want to work with small children either. Not my thing

ghnocci · 09/12/2015 15:57

How can anybody hate watching their child in a nativity?!

SanityClause · 09/12/2015 15:59

I love them, and cry every time.

Poor Mary - imagine giving birth in a stable!

(My DC are now too old for nativities Sad)

Loftsequin · 09/12/2015 16:02

I'm with owl Xmas Smile

Venturing out in the dark and cold
The pushing and gushing parents
Overcrowded hall
The smell of farts
The cat chorus
The confusion of where child is after
Walking home in the rain
The whinging overtired child later?

Bah humbug :o

Loftsequin · 09/12/2015 16:14

And the too loud piano and the screaming babies one of which is mine and the fact I am short and never get to see anything and child hates it as much as me ...

Humbug!

OP posts:
Owllady · 09/12/2015 16:15

Yes, you know that child crying on stage? That's my youngest that is!

Loftsequin · 09/12/2015 16:16

Mine just stands there glowering at everyone! Grin I know he's just nervous but if you didn't know he's (honestly!) a really lovely kid you'd think he was a future psychopath in the making!

OP posts:
Aeroflotgirl · 09/12/2015 16:17

If op is unwell, and doesent drive, having to trudge younger kids, who might probably be playing up during the performance, plus your children told you they weren't fussed. In those circumstances, I would not.

pictish · 09/12/2015 16:18

One day there will be no more nativities to go to. You may be thinking 'if only!' now, but you'll miss it.

Mehitabel6 · 09/12/2015 16:19

I don't understand how anyone could want to miss seeing their child in a nativity play- I love them even with other people's children.
I would make the effort whatever the difficulties- so sad for the child otherwise- whatever they might say to you.

Loftsequin · 09/12/2015 16:19

Hmm - I don't think so pictish! Grin

I will miss some stuff but the primary school nativity is not one of them!

OP posts:
ArmfulOfRoses · 09/12/2015 16:20

It's the harvest festivals I despise.
2 more to go...

pictish · 09/12/2015 16:21

Aww...I find it a grind every year, but i still go. All the childrens voices raised in song....

Owllady · 09/12/2015 16:21

My older two are 16 & 14. Erm nope :o it's just forced plays. I hate them
The end of year play at lower school was excruciating (for another one of my children) it went on for hours and hours!

Loftsequin · 09/12/2015 16:23

Oh the end of school play is awful. And the harvest festivals. I don't know if my child is in with a particularly tone deaf bunch but their singing is terrible and the piano isn't tuned properly and it deafens me! Grin
