Donald Trump thinks there should be a ban on all Muslims entering the U.S.

Beeb news here.

Have you been to America?

Have you? No one likes him here. He's too extreme even for conservatives.

He's got followers, yes. Enough followers to win an election? Not a chance.

Want2bSupermum · 08/12/2015 04:23

Senpai The thing is that I thought he would be well gone by now but his approach is proving to be effective. At first he made outlandish comments and got himself noticed by the press. He then started to make comments which were more neutral but are just outside of the realm of normal thinking.

I also have to ask where you live and hang out in the US? Speak to the low income non hispanics even in here in NJ which is a blue state and they are behind Trump because they HATE the illegals stealing their jobs. The 50+ group are also much more in favour of Trump compared to HC.

One thing is for sure, if Trump gets the nomination all HC has to do is get every Hispanic eligible to vote to the polling station and she will win by a landslide. Historically the hispanic population have not exercised their right to vote. Trump might change that! I think it is something like only 51% of the hispanic population with the right to vote in the election are registered to vote.

sambucus2 · 08/12/2015 04:50

UKIP got 3.8 million votes, NewStatesman. It didn't translate to seats but it's still an enormous figure.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 08/12/2015 07:37

We have Farage who wanted to get rid of anti discrimination laws, as we no longer need them apparently. Hmm

He is a racist, jingoistic moron and people love that.

Senpai · 08/12/2015 07:44

I live in the Midwest, there's plenty of low income non-Hispanics that hate Trump. No one likes Hilary either, but Trump is only attracting conservative white men. There's not enough niche republican white men to make up for the republican PoC, sensible white men, and women of all colors that he's alienating.

He has demonstrated that everyone is sick and tired of bureaucratic process and the slow cogs that are congress. Hopefully politicians will take this lesson on board and stop bickering so incessantly with each other to the point of getting nothing done.

MrsUnderwood · 08/12/2015 07:51

I'm with AF on this, I don't think this is going to damage him at all. He's saying in plain language what a lot of people are thinking. And that's terrifying.

Senpai · 08/12/2015 07:58

Candidates True Polls

Trump has excellent ratings among his fan base. But the polls clearly show that he's too far down to really stand a chance as a presidential candidate.

To give him credit where credit is due, he's making a good business decision raising money for his campaign. But he's not going to get elected.

chipsandpeas · 08/12/2015 08:13

There is some speculation that he is being paraded around and will then withdraw. By which time everyone will be so relieved to see a moderate like Jed that they'll fall over themselves to vote for him

this is my thinking mainly the thought of trump winning is very scary indeed that it cant be serious

ColdTeaAgain · 08/12/2015 08:17

Thank you Senpai, interesting to know.

echt · 08/12/2015 08:18

He's a stalking horse to test right-wing views.

Not that I think he knows this.

Toooldtobearsed · 08/12/2015 08:33

I have always thought of him as a joke, but this contradicts that viewpoint. He is actually a dangerous, bigoted idiot (or fuckwit as Maryz so wonderfully puts it).
I thought all reasonable people would feel the same way, but I play an online game, with a neighbourhood made up, primarily, of Tenant. I have been shocked rigid by their opinions on guns, Obama, Muslims, gay men etc., and concerned that they know nothing of who is going on in the world outside of America, or outside of what affects America directly.

Seems strange the we point the finger at North Korea for being insular when a lot of America seems to be just as bad.

Just to be fair, I am not labelling all Americans as insular homophobes, I am sure a large proportion of the population are intelligent, thoughtful people. But the few that I have 'met' online have shocked me. No doubt they will be voting for Trump.......

Toooldtobearsed · 08/12/2015 08:34

Tenant? Tenant?? TEXANS!

Eroica · 08/12/2015 08:36

I disagree echt, I think it's very deliberate, and he's in on it.
I think the idea is to get an Hispanic surge behind Rubio, who is a far more worrying candidate for women IMO.

Eroica · 08/12/2015 08:38

Genuine LOL @ Texans to tenant!

MrsJayy · 08/12/2015 08:42

As somebody else pointed out George Bush got inTWICE anything is possible the man is a fuckwit who is the other Republican candidate?

BigChocFrenzy · 08/12/2015 08:52

Trump made dreadful claims about Mexican immigrants being rapists.
He made disgusting tirades against women who didn't interview him with sufficient grovelling.

He deliberately plays on paranoia and unhappiness about a rapidly changing world, where the American Dream stopped for most families a long time ago.
Easy to blame "the other".

Unfortunately, Hilary Clinton is enmired in sleaze and incompetence, which puts off some centrist voters.

The US public, like many of us, are disgusted by professional politicians.
So some voters get conned by wealthy extreme right Republicans who claim to represent ordinary people against the wealthy establishent
Confused
The kipperatti on Mumsnet also like him - or any politician, left or right, who claims to be against what they call the "elite" who supposedly conspire against us.

Sallyingforth · 08/12/2015 09:02

Unfortunately I think it's entirely possible to gain him more votes. There are some nice people in the US. There are also many racists.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 08/12/2015 09:24

He's got followers, yes. Enough followers to win an election? Not a chance.

Hopefully Senpai.

MrsJayy · 08/12/2015 09:47

He was the man who whipped up obama the birth certificate hoo ha he knows how to grab attention and he also has enough money to fling about to keep his campaign in the headlines i dont think he has enough support to be elected president though ?

ComposHatComesBack · 08/12/2015 11:50

The kipperatti on Mumsnet also like him

Yes I'm surprised Claig isn't on here offering a paen to Trump. He or she must be slipping.

UnGoogleable · 08/12/2015 12:01

I think he's playing a game to rile people up, to make the other Republican candidates look moderate.

Either that, or he's still on the Clinton's side and he's doing this to wipe out any chance of the Republican's winning?!

Russellgroupserf · 08/12/2015 12:05

People tend to gravitate towards friends that have similar views.

It's actually one of the ills of the world and why as humans we don't understand each other and don't seem to improve.

BiscuitMillionaire · 08/12/2015 12:13

Trump is just like all those right-wing offensive 'shock-jocks' on US radio. Unfortunately they get an enthusiastic audience too.

SenecaFalls · 08/12/2015 12:22

It's not only Muslims he's insulted, he's previously said lots of nasty things about Mexicans and the Latino vote is huge.

He has also said some disgusting things about women.

It is well nigh impossible now for someone to be elected president without the Hispanic vote, which Trump will not get.

Polls are already showing that he has lost first position in the Iowa caucuses.

UtterlyClueless · 08/12/2015 12:23

YABU but only because absolute tits will vote for him
