I work 12 hour shifts and always on my feet. I can't seem to find any shoes that don't make my feet throb by the end of my shift. I fantasise every shift about a magic shoe that won't hurt my feet.... All shift workers know this feeling someone must know the secret..
Recommendations please!!

Fab response thank you! I'm now torn between sketchers, dms and Clarks!

Sketchers Flex Appeal with memory foam. My ankles no longer scream at me by the end of my shifts.

ValiantVelvet · 07/12/2015 16:46

They come in plain black, too: www.sportsdirect.com/skechers-flex-appeal-trainers-ladies-275529?colcode=27552903

I have these:

When I was in hospital all of the midwives were wearing crocs - not clog ones though, more like a Mary Jane.

bookishandblondish · 07/12/2015 18:44

All nurses I know - crocs ( mainly because you can wash them very easily and they are comfy)

All bar staff I knew - dr martens. Wearing in is painful ( I used a thingy of plaster every shift for a week - feet blister very easily) but are really good for standing shifts.

HazelOrBigwig · 07/12/2015 19:09

OP- I urge you, do consider trying compression socks, like flight socks. My feet and ankles used to ache after long shifts, even though I wore fairly comfy shoes.

But now after getting some knee high stockings, the difference is huge. My ankles didn't look especially swollen or anything, but I think they must have been a bit.

Flamingo1980 · 08/12/2015 20:11

I'm quite tempted by the sketchers!
Intrigued by the compression socks I'll try that!!

Don't the socks make your legs sweaty and itchy?!

Fitflop professional range. Like wearing slippers!

Chocqueen99 · 08/12/2015 20:46

CrocS Alice crocs there called, not one bit ugly like other ones. Comfy don't make your feet smell & you can just wipe them down.

peckforton · 08/12/2015 20:55

I like Ecco or Hotter shoes, they are like wearing very supportive slippers, however a bit ugly but who cares when your feet are ok.
I find Skechers and Crocs not supportive enough and Clarks don't do much in my bigfoot size but always bought them for my kids who found them comfy especially as they wore them day in day out at school.

LoveMILbut · 08/12/2015 20:56

Ecco are the absolute best but sadly mostly look old-lady ish.
Have had Merrells which were OK.

As a nurse I always worse Ecco shoes and had very comfy feet. They were expensive but worth it.

I've known times that we've paused for breath in resus, looked down, and realised everyone woman in the room was wearing these. Not cheap, but they last, and they're the only pair I can still be wearing at 24 hours into a weekend at work...

Thisismyfirsttime · 08/12/2015 21:18

Can I derail slightly and ask those who wear the Sketchers Go Walk what socks they wear with them? I like big thick trainer socks but they'd show I think? I really wanted a pair but was put off by not knowing what to wear them with!

Birkenstock anti-static clogs.

Love 'em. Have had them for years with a couple of pairs of new insoles along the way.

They also go in the clog -washer (a glorified dishwasher) as they are plastic....
