I really hate what my dsis is going to name her son. She was keeping it a secret(probably to stop any negative comments) but dn let slip.

I, of course, will keep quiet and give dsis the appropriate comments when she announces the name.

Please help me get over it!!

So want to have a reaction because you are annoyed at her reaction over your child's name? Confused

SalopianGirl · 01/12/2015 19:16

Does he have siblings called Bacup and Oswaldtwistle ?

toffeeboffin · 01/12/2015 19:20

'Does he have siblings called Bacup and Oswaldtwistle ?

Grin

Go the whole hog and call the next one Rawtenstall. Or Whitworth. Maybe Darwin?

toffeeboffin · 01/12/2015 19:20

Nah, second thoughts, Darwin's too cool.

toffeeboffin · 01/12/2015 19:22

Spritefairy, have you ever been to Preston? don't

LaurieFairyCake · 01/12/2015 19:22

That's bad

As is Preston in Lancashire

Maybe fine if you're in the U.S. but not if you live here

angryangryyoungwoman · 01/12/2015 19:29

His nickname has to be Northend.. Grin

Idefix · 01/12/2015 19:30

Nothing to add Grin to all the pp!

Westielove · 01/12/2015 19:31

SalopianGirl + toffeeboffin Or Ramsbottom I swear I'm not a child Grin

Pennypebbles · 01/12/2015 19:31

Nah, second thoughts, Darwin's too cool.

It's Darwen in Lancashire, not Darwin. And it is definitely not too cool. Soggy would sum it up. Grin

AcrossthePond55 · 01/12/2015 19:31

Not a name I would choose but at least she's not spelling it 'Prestyn' or some such.

Why do you consider it an American name?

Roseformeplease · 01/12/2015 19:33

She can be Preston's Super Ma!

spritefairy · 01/12/2015 19:35

Oh god I hope she doesn't spell it prestyn....

ginghamcricketbox · 01/12/2015 19:44

OI Laurie FairyCake I live near Preston it's not that bad.

Actually I'm lying it's a shithole Grin

Hullygully · 01/12/2015 19:51

Has she considered Jonty?

WhatsWithTheHashtags · 01/12/2015 19:54

It's very Lancashire and screams "Bus Station" but that's just me!

WhatsWithTheHashtags · 01/12/2015 19:55

Preston Whitworth III is approaching American.

CrownofStars · 01/12/2015 20:08

It's also the name of the robot dog in A Close Shave. :)

GruntledOne · 01/12/2015 20:11

I found myself singing "4000 holes in Preston Lancashire". Until I remembered that was Blackburn. Maybe that's a good name for the next one?

toffeeboffin · 01/12/2015 20:12

Sorry, Penny.

I actually used to work in Darwen memory of which is forever erased

DancingDinosaur · 01/12/2015 20:13

Hmmm, maybe it will grow on you in time Wink

Italiangreyhound · 01/12/2015 20:13

It's fine. Get over it. (I don't like it personally but it could be worse).

Yes it makes me think of the place and it's it is the name of the dog in the Wallace and Gromit film 'A Close Shave'.!

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Close_Shave

Pennypebbles · 01/12/2015 20:19

You're forgiven, toffee, I'd rather live in Darwin than Darwen I think, although it is much better than the other three exciting places I've lived in my life: Blackburn, Southend and Wickford! Good triplet names.

Headofthehive55 · 01/12/2015 20:30

Buy her the toddler book Preston the pig.....in preparation....it might just give her second thoughts....all done in the most sincere way of course. Look what I've found, he'll love reading it, and it's soooo popular!

BlueJug · 01/12/2015 20:31

I went to university with a guy called Preston. I wouldn't choose it but it is not that bad. You'll get used to it.
