to think cooking two fillets of fish for one person is a bit much?

I'm going out. Spouse is cooking two salmon fillets for himself. I think it's a bit greedy and he should either have just one - or save the packet for a night when we're both in.

Fishgate is over

I'm so glad OP

I am addicted to buying reduced food from Sainsbury's but only the premium stuff - none of your rubbish Grin.

Among today's haul were two Taste The Difference rump steaks reduced from £10.08 and £10.04 to £7.74 each. Not the greatest reduction but I went early.

Inspired by this thread I weighed them. They were about 200g each. Big enough for DH but too big for me. So I've cut them into three and frozen them so each of us gets one generous steak and he can fight the cat for my leftovers. There are smaller pieces that I can make into a steak sandwich with tomatoes and lettuce.

Tonight's reduced food is Sainsbury's venison steaks with free mashed potatoes, mushrooms and spinach (I have a contra deal with the man in the market) and reduced chocolate pudding. I had to pay full price for the single cream to go in the spuds and the pudding Sad

Do you know what? I took various things I wanted marked 2 December in my basket and trawled the shop to find the woman with the sticker gun.

I then asked her if she'd mind reducing them and she said: 'Of course not. I'm going to reduce the things on that shelf, is there anything there you want?'

CobblerBob · 02/12/2015 19:06

I'm just frying 500g of mince for some fajitas for four of us.

Call the cops, it's a meat sweat party here tonight

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/12/2015 19:09

I was in the fishmongers just the other day, saw a right fatty rolling out with three salmon fillets, three.

LynnetteBird · 02/12/2015 19:24

If it's within the budget, I suspect doubling up on the fish is nutritionally better than filling up on potatoes (or worse, snacking later if left peckish)

expatinscotland · 02/12/2015 19:25

My husband and I often eat an entire 12-inch pizza each. And neither one of us is fat.

nebulae · 02/12/2015 19:34

Inspired by this thread, I'm having two salmon fillets this evening, with a huge pile of salad. And I don't give a flying feck if anyone thinks I'm greedy Cake

limitedperiodonly · 02/12/2015 19:41

I always have 2 salmon fillets. Fish is good. Eat more fish. If more people ate more fish we wouldn't have 60% of the population fat.

From DeoGratius

Mmm. Yes. We can always have too much of a good thing. The Protein Man of Oxford Street was a staple of my teenage years

CainInThePunting · 02/12/2015 19:58

YABUish. I have just eaten two fillets of salmon with a pile of spinach. It was delicious.

It works out at about 500 cals for the entire meal and whilst I concede it's a fairly protein heavy meal, its not as if I eat that much protein every meal so I'm not concerned particularly.

expatinscotland · 02/12/2015 20:00

Just added some salmon to my Christmas order.

Bakeoffcake · 02/12/2015 20:11

I've just had salmon en croute for tea. Was delicious Grin

OP you've started a salmon eating revolution.

expatinscotland · 02/12/2015 20:16

Really hope you didn't eat two slices. You might wake up obese.

fourquenelles · 02/12/2015 20:29

limitedperiod memories, memories. Stanley Green in Oxford Street .

limitedperiodonly · 02/12/2015 21:22

fourquenelles my mum and I would get off the Tube at Marble Arch and we'd take in Chelsea Girl and M&S. Then we'd look at Selfridges and HMV and pop down the chi-chi St Christopher's Place, then back to see Stanley patrolling just west of John Lewis almost to Top Shop at Oxford Circus.

He wouldn't cross that junction. Maybe there was a force field made of protein.

We'd continue to Tottenham Court Road and go in Virgin Records and have a McDonalds - though if feeling cosmopolitan we'd sometimes stop at the Chicago Pizza Pie Factory in Hanover Square - and then get the tube home. Nice days Grin

fourquenelles · 04/12/2015 12:49

limitedperiod happy days indeed!

ThatsNotMyRabbit · 04/12/2015 16:03

Dinner at your house must be a joyful occasion Hmm

I'm imagining you tucking into your half a steak, four peas and a potato each, congratulating yourselves on your self control.

Crazypetlady · 04/12/2015 16:11

It's the salmon police!
YABU.

Oldraver · 04/12/2015 16:16

Salmon portions are always stingy, I get the bigger ones from Morrisons or get it on offer.

If its one of those 1" strips I don't blame him

expatinscotland · 04/12/2015 16:38

Mmm, a Maccie D's is just the ticket when you have a hangover.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 04/12/2015 16:45

When I go out my DH orders a massive pizza and has crisps and beer as well.

Sorry but halving steaks, quibbling over salmon and being told to switch kettle off as soon as it boils don't sound fun for either of you

IHaveBrilloHair · 04/12/2015 17:32

Well McDonald's is fine, but only if you share a filet o fish between 12, and source your fries from the bin.

expatinscotland · 04/12/2015 18:30

Fries?! What would the government say? They are the cause of obesity and should be banned. Maccie D's offers fruit and carrot batons. I've had the salad bowl there and one is plenty for four.

MrsKoala · 04/12/2015 19:24

I love this thread. Its really made me chuckle.

some of you would be shocked at how much meat we eat. If i do a fish pie for me and dh i use 2 bits of salmon, 2 of white fish, and 2 of white smoked fish. We would also consider that quite a light dinner so i would do a pudding/cheese fr afters. Its quite spendy so only once a week. As a general rule, i would do 200-250g of meat per person. I do eat low carb/paleo/primal tho. I also eat animal products for every meal as well.

We're not fat. We are pretty massive and do lots of active stuff tho. I worked out once i needed 2400 cals and dh needed 3300 a day.

expatinscotland · 04/12/2015 19:42
Shock

MrsK, what would the government say?

MrsKoala · 04/12/2015 19:47

I'm actually only doing it to spite the government. Id really love to be a vegan, but that would be playing into their hands i feel, so i force the meat down and put up with the meat sweats. Its hard. But worth it. IN YOUR FACE CAMERON!
