Shall we have a little vote, here and now?

It's a big "no" from me.

If we are going to starting bombing terrorist strongholds I suggest we start bombing Saudi Arabia.

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 30/11/2015 10:43

I agree that this appears to be doing something because we 'have to do something' rather than because we have come up with an actual plan. But the alternative doesn't have to be doing nothing, as some people seem to think. It's not that black and white.

I'm fairly sure most of the people saying no don't believe that we should just sit back and let ISIS do their thing, I believe most people are saying no because they don't believe that what David Cameron is proposing is an adequate solution. There might be 70,000 moderates to fight for us, but I think that's something that we should perhaps clarify before we start bombing.

It's wrong to say that it's either air strikes or nothing.

Ubik1 · 30/11/2015 11:38

No air strikes are not the whole solution. But they will help hamper Isis efforts to expand territory. We have already been attacked many times.

Iraq and Afghanistan, that situation was different. Look at what Isis is doing - targeting British holiday makers on a beach in Tunisia. This will not go away. They will continue to target British civilians.

Bombing Saudi? They are bastards but - let's face it - Saudi Arabia is a stable prosperous country. We need to be pragmatic.

We cannot pick and choose democracy for Syria. But we can try to protect ourselves.

gotthemoononastick · 30/11/2015 11:52

No,would be totally ineffective and pointless.Europe is a post-Christian society now,so the religious vacuum will be filled by another and change the entire culture of the 'West'.

King Canute comes to mind. Also the song 'you don't know what you 've got until it's gone.'

We little people are only on for the ride regardless.

CakeMountain · 30/11/2015 11:52

No.

TheXxed · 30/11/2015 11:57

Saudi Arabia have been exporting terrorism for some time now, they fund and created this toxic ideology.

BabiesComeWithHats · 30/11/2015 12:42

I don't want us to but I feel like we have to.

ISIS clearly has power, but is not actually that large in either numbers or geographically, certainly not when up against a concerted western attack effort. I think we need to weaken them, hard, and contain them while we still can.

I also think that while ISIS is terrifying, the idea of Putin and Trump duking it out in the Middle East, with Israel and Iran throwing their hats into the ring, is the stuff of nightmares. If Britain and France and other more moderate countries take the lead on this there is a slim, slim chance of some future stability. If we leave it to Russia and the US, to my mind there's none.

blytheandsebastian · 30/11/2015 12:59

At all costs, whatever the cost, ISIS must be prevented from taking Damascus. If it does, many experts think there could be a domino effect throughout Europe. We need to do whatever it takes to keep Damascus under a different authority, Assad's brutality notwithstanding. Naturally that will require military force.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 30/11/2015 13:00

No

TheWernethWife · 30/11/2015 13:05

A big No from me

hanahsaunt · 30/11/2015 13:17

No. Not at this point in time.

DrasticAction · 30/11/2015 13:17

At all costs, whatever the cost, ISIS must be prevented from taking Damascus

Is that what ISIS want?

I heard they were creeping to Bagdhad wasn't aware of Damascus.

DrasticAction · 30/11/2015 13:19

Bombing means we can help
Cut off supply routes, income and communications

Other airforces are doing that, how many bombs and planes does it take?

DrasticAction · 30/11/2015 13:20

what about other countries?

is china bombing, canada, Australia, Italy, Poland, Romania, Germany???

blytheandsebastian · 30/11/2015 13:46

drastic If they didn't want to take Damascus, why are they on the outskirts and constantly trying to get further in?

They want Damascus. It's the political capital of Syria and will effectively mean they've won.

sorry if it's been linked to before www.independent.co.uk/news/world/paris-attacks-where-does-isis-get-its-money-and-arms-a6736716.html

It's a very complicated situation. One that absolutely will not be solved by British "boots on the ground".

As PP posters have sad - ISIS will move on d elsewhere. I think we need to readjust our whole relationship with the Middle East and stop turning a blind eye to so called "friendly" regimes who have diabolical human rights records, and provide training grounds for terrorists, just because they provide oil and spend billions on weapons we sell to them .

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/12/2015 19:25

Email your mp easy 38 degree form to let them know how you feel either way.

Hedgehogparty · 01/12/2015 19:32

No
I believe bombing will be ultimately ineffective but will harm civilians and actually enhance Isis

Think France is only European country currently bombing, I don't understand why we are even contemplating this action.

Elllicam · 01/12/2015 19:36

No

whatdoIget · 01/12/2015 19:39

My MP has responded with a long email detailing why he doesn't think air strikes will be effective and thus he will be voting against them tomorrow.

LineyReborn · 01/12/2015 19:49

whatdoiget Could you post it here?

I just emailed my MP arguing against air strikes. I hope I get a response. It'd be a first.

whatdoIget · 01/12/2015 19:52

Erm... I don't know. I thought about that and I know it's a standard response but is it ok to post an email that he presumably didn't expect to be posted online?
