to think this is unacceptable

Just found out that in my hometown high school PE activities are still split by gender. The boys do football and rugby, the girls do netball and hockey. When the girls do dance, the boys do tennis. I cant believe this seperation is still going on without question.

Apparantly if a child 'kicks up a fuss' about wanting to do a sport of the opposite gender they will be allowed to do it but would be the only boy or girl in the class, hence hardly any do.

I think this is outrageous, all children should be taught all sports available as standard. Why is a seperation based on gender neccessary, and why is this still going on?

It isnt about inferiority. Girls are far better at lots of things. Boys have physical strength and girls have mental strength. Its a fact not a fight. So lets just work with that.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 22/11/2015 23:10

Evans you a choosing what i said and turning it around

I commented on exactly what you said, Pinot. Did you mean to say something different?

pinotblush · 22/11/2015 23:11

And turned it around Evans Grin

VestalVirgin · 22/11/2015 23:12

@mileedn: But I LIKED building bird houses. Sad

Aussiemum78 · 22/11/2015 23:14

Why?

Because people like you tell them it's for boys.

Because they get entrenched in choosing lower paying professions.

It's certainly not because boys are smarter than girls.

Glad you support my idea to give girls strength training to prevent the chronic diseases they will be more at risk for than their male peers.

I will let you know when I have drafted my petition to the government and you can sign it. Smile

Choughed · 22/11/2015 23:14

Pinot.

There are lots of reasons who women choose STEMM subjects in lower proportions than men, none of which are to do with innate female traits. More about institutional sexism, lack of role models etc. A fact universally recognised.

And anyway, the tide is turning. Women outperform men at GCSE STEM subjects and are catching up at A level.

mileend2bermondsey · 22/11/2015 23:16

coughed on the thisgirlcan website the homepage has pictures of women partaking in various sporting activities which are:
cycling,
netball,
swimming,
tennis,
and two different types of dance (including 'clubbercise' Hmm )

FFS . . .

Ok then Vestal... And they will probably tell you women on the whole women live longer than men Grin

pinotblush · 22/11/2015 23:17

apologies.. women on the whole live longer than men...

Choughed · 22/11/2015 23:17

Pinot I think you are lost. The 1950s are that way -->

pinotblush · 22/11/2015 23:18

You are stating the obvious there OP not what you originally had the argument about?

VestalVirgin · 22/11/2015 23:18

@pinot: Which is exactly why women are more at risk for osteoporosis and diabetes. See? My idea is just perfect. Or maybe it needs a bit of work ... I should do some research on which sports are best for alzheimer prevention.

pinotblush · 22/11/2015 23:19

Im a 60's baby choughed so not lost at all.

AlpacaPicnic · 22/11/2015 23:20

I'm just going to leave this picture of the current holders of the Women's Rugby World Cup here...

to think this is unacceptable
Choughed · 22/11/2015 23:20

Mile and cycling, and canoeing. And the campaign as a whole also includes football, boxing, running... pretty much everything...

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 22/11/2015 23:20

I should do some research on which sports are best for alzheimer prevention

Please let it be rugby, please let it be rugby, please let it be rugby

pinotblush · 22/11/2015 23:20

It was ALL women though wasnt it, not a mixed affair. Hence my postings.

mileend2bermondsey · 22/11/2015 23:23

Yeah actually I am agreeing with you pinot. A campaign for womens sport/fitness is reinforcing your ideology that women should stick to 'girls sport', it must be true then.

Shall I start putting '/end sarcasm' at the end of posts so youre able to keep up a little better?

OP posts:
pinotblush · 22/11/2015 23:23

I truly hope you arent saying what I think you might be Evans. If you are then you are posting rather nasty and below the belt.

pinotblush · 22/11/2015 23:24

Shall I say that it isnt a mixed affair again and it will not be due to brawn. Or have you not got that yet OP.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 22/11/2015 23:24

What? Confused

pinotblush · 22/11/2015 23:26

I said that yes, all hail to women but they will not or never compete equally with men in the strength stakes will they! Schools do not have to go with this they are still allowed to go with the norm.

mileend2bermondsey · 22/11/2015 23:26

Not really, your defence of your beliefs changes with every post pinot.Youve said multiple times on this thread that you dont agree with single sex classes of girls playing rugby, so its got nothing to do with sexes being mixed.

OP posts:
Choughed · 22/11/2015 23:28

But Pinot what is this norm you keep referring to???
