Just that really. There's 2 of us. OH has a shirt every day, bedding and towels once a week, my work stuff every 2/ 3 wears, plus underwear and tea towels etc and OHs out of work clothes - t shirts every 1/2 wears, trousers once a week or more frequently if dirty.

But this seems to add up to a washload per day (or 3 in the week, 3 on a weekend if I don't do it regularly. And I don't understand why, we have big machine. Surely 2 people shouldn't create so much washing?!

Minimum one load a day, 8kg machine and dryer. There are four of us.

One or sometimes 2 tea towels a week.

What sort of chemicals go on tea towels? Aren't they for drying clean things?

CocktailQueen · 15/11/2015 22:27

One load of bathrobes per week?
Ffs.

pinkbubblee · 15/11/2015 22:28

We average 4 loads a week - DH, me, and teenage DS. No idea how big our washer is. Usually do towels/sheets once a fortnight, so one week it's our sheets, next week it's DS's.

CocktailQueen · 15/11/2015 22:28

Doggers - you wash bedding daily? I hope you're on a water meter. That us really not necessary...

JaceLancs · 15/11/2015 22:29

2 adults here
4 loads a week

CheesyNachos · 15/11/2015 22:30

Raskolnikov I work mostly from home. :) It gives me huge freedom for washing it is true! (I have a system where a I have a regular coffee break, lunch break and afternoon coffee break and do house chores/cooking then. I will have to work out of the home prob from next year and am dreading it as I can barely keep on top of things now!).

CremeEggThief · 15/11/2015 22:31

Yes, 2 heavy bathrobes make up a 7kg load. We use them every day after a shower, tending to keep towels for hands and hair, Cocktail. Not sure how that's surprisingHmm.

SummerNights1986 · 15/11/2015 22:35

Also think that washing bedding daily is a huge waste.

Unless you're going to bed covered in mud, or have a bed wetting problem or a DH who spontaneously ejaculates 4 times a night all over the sheets, it's really not necessary.

BrandNewAndImproved · 15/11/2015 22:36

I come home from work and picking the dc up after school and shove a load in, when it's dry it goes into the dryer and the previous load goes in the washing basket until I have time to sort it.

I can't get behind on the washing I only have two sets of work uniform (chef whites) and they need to be clean. I also wash the oven cloths and tea towels in my washing machine but take them back to work tp dry. If I boiled those up like I do my cloths I'd never get them dry.

Artandco · 15/11/2015 22:36

Dawn - you don't you someone else's damp towel. You all have your own towel, so it shouldn't be wet if you last had a shower the night before or morning as only you using it. Each person has own colour on towel here so they know

Cocktail - I don't know, what do I need a tea towel for though? Iv never felt I need one I suppose so never bought one.

OnTheEdgeToday · 15/11/2015 22:36

I am overloaded by washing. I can never get the pile down! Just as i think i have accomplished it, another pile has been created.
My washing machine is on at least once a day. Mostly twice a day, second lot just a quick wash to clean up uniforms or my clothes.
I dont have a uniform at work and always wind up with paint, food or something stuck to me (i work with kids). I have 3 boys who always come home muddy or covered in paint.
That isnt including all of the towels, bedding etc, or my pile of washing that doesnt go down. I have a 9kg washing machine too! Only my washing line is pathetic and can fit all of two towels on it. So its a radiator and clothes horse job. I need another clothes horse!
I noticed my washing went down hill when i moved. I had a dryer in my last house (underwear, towels and bedding), it broke on moving day, and i had a washing line that could fit two loads of washing on.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 15/11/2015 22:36

Working mostly from home sounds fab, Cheesy, a lot more civilised!

hollinhurst84 · 15/11/2015 22:36

Just me and I do 2/3 a week
Wear uniform but only have one pair of trousers so I try to make up the wash with other things so I can keep them clean!
Gym stuff, riding clothes, bedding, towels etc make up the rest really plus a whites wash

Kayakinggirl86 · 15/11/2015 22:39

3 of us plus DSD 4 days a week.
In summer towels and swim suits get done everyday due to swimming.
Sport kit washes; my running kit + DSD gym stuff-1 wash a week.
2 darks and 1 whites every week. Pluss bedding, 1 or 2 loads.
so about 11 washes a week!
Wow that is madness.

CheesyNachos · 15/11/2015 22:41

I am a big fan Raskolnikov. :) I am responsible for our US office so am often up and MNetting working at unsociable hours but it is such a blessing being able to nip to the shops, do the school run etc. I feel very lucky. I do get a bit lonely sometimes though- no onsite colleagues- but Mn fills that gap.:)

Junosmum · 15/11/2015 22:51

That's interesting. The reason I asked is that due to a number of issues I've only done one pad this week until today and they washing basket it well over flowing. I've now done 3 washes today and it's still over full.

We have a 7kg machine, double the capacity of the old one.

And whoever told me just to wash things less- I only wash something if it either looks or smells dirty. Except underwear, which if it's worn it's dirty, no sniffing necessary!

And how can anyone not have a teatowel??!! I don't dry pots with them unless I need them urgently but I dry my hands, pick things up with, wipe things etc, I probably use one a day- I like them clean.

OnTheEdgeToday · 15/11/2015 23:08

Junosmum - i am the same. I dont understand how people can keep their washing baskets to a bare minimum. Mine is never ending, and i wash a lot more than others seem to do, too!

goldglittershitter · 15/11/2015 23:15

Two loads a day, every day. There r two adults n three DC. If I leave it even one day, it is piled up on the floor around the machine as machine n basket r overflowing. It gets me down but not enough to reuse towels!

PeppasNanna · 15/11/2015 23:31

About 12 a week. 11kg washing machine.
7 of us in the house...never ending!

DragonMamma · 15/11/2015 23:34

Here's ours for a family of 4 with 2 school aged DC

1 x DH uniform
1 x DH utility work trousers (2 pairs take up the whole load because they are stiff!)
1 x my work clothes
1 x kids coloureds
1 x kids non white parts of uniforms
1 x whites
1 x towels, we have loads so they go on a rota
1 x light bedding wash
1 x coloured bedding wash

That's 9 loads a week. No wonder it feels never ending! I do have a fantastic ironing lady though so my responsibility ends there.

Preciousxbane · 15/11/2015 23:39

3 of us, bigger than standard drum but can't remember the number.

4 loads per week I change bedding every two weeks.

MissPiggyandKermitsLoveChild · 16/11/2015 00:11

I think it is when I post on these threads that I was freaking everyone out with the amount of washing that I do. It has helped me to realise that my obsession with laundry was caused by never having clean clothes as a child. Our clothes, bedding, nightwear etc., was just disgustingly filthy.

Anyhow, in the last few months I have really tried to get my washing down to a sensible level, there are five us (DS1 is now at uni) and I do between three and four loads a day. Sometimes it is more, but rarely less. I am trying to reduce it down but finding it really hard.

Sallystyle · 16/11/2015 01:17

1-2 a day. I only wash clothes when they are smell or dirty. But with 7 of us it's still a lot. That includes my work uniform which has to be washed after one wear for infection control, DS chef whites and front of house uniform.
