Just that really. There's 2 of us. OH has a shirt every day, bedding and towels once a week, my work stuff every 2/ 3 wears, plus underwear and tea towels etc and OHs out of work clothes - t shirts every 1/2 wears, trousers once a week or more frequently if dirty.

But this seems to add up to a washload per day (or 3 in the week, 3 on a weekend if I don't do it regularly. And I don't understand why, we have big machine. Surely 2 people shouldn't create so much washing?!

Family of four. One load per day, 7kg machine.

How a family the same size as mine can generate three times as much laundry is beyond my comprehension.

ChesterFuckingDraws · 15/11/2015 21:32

I do at least 1/2 loads a day.
There's just DH and I but DH goes to the gym everyday without fail. Our work clothes get washed after every wear due to the nature of our jobs and towels get done every 3 days, bedding weekly.
The only thing that gets worn more than once are jeans and hoodies.

TheScottishPlay · 15/11/2015 21:35

Me, DH and DS (11) at home. We do at least 1 load every day.
On days I batch cook/bake (once a week usually) there will be a full load of tea towels alone.

TheFear · 15/11/2015 21:38

Scottish, how on earth would you use a full washing machine's worth of tea towels when batch cooking?? I'd probably use 2 and an oven mitt.

Artandco · 15/11/2015 21:39

Chester - but surely you don't wash the gym clothes every day and the work clothes? Can't you put them in laundry basket until you have a full load then wash a couple of days worth at once?

justabigdisco · 15/11/2015 21:42

These threads wind me up. The reason you're doing so much washing is because you're washing stuff too often. Wash stuff less and you'll have less washing! Easy!

Pastaface · 15/11/2015 21:43

Just me and dh. We only do 2 washes on a normal week this includes gym kits daily for dh - every other week we do 3 including bedding and towels. Not sure what size machine we have though.

ohtheholidays · 15/11/2015 21:44

There's 7 of us and I do 3 loads of washing a day.Once a week I strip all the beds and do 6 loads that day.

CRtester · 15/11/2015 21:48

I do a load a day on average. But as a previous poster said, it totally depends on the size of your washing machine! Mine is less than half the size of some that have been mentioned.

I'm definitely buying a bugger machine when this one wears out!

QforCucumber · 15/11/2015 21:48

2 of us - a whites, a darks and a mixed weekly.
A bedding and towel wash whenever I remember (usually 10 days or so)
Dp wears a fresh Tshirt for work every day, but he has 5 so they just go in the basket. Finish work at 1 on a Friday, it's all out and drying by Friday night

CheesyNachos · 15/11/2015 21:48

I seem to do an insane amount of washing.

There is me, DH and Ds aged 5 but DH is usually away. I do a normal load every other day. That is clothes and underwear, tea towels etc. Then I do DS's uniform on a quick15 minute freshen up wash every day and then a proper wash for his uniform and PE kit every weekend. i wash all the bedclothes every Thursday. We also have dogs and I do a dog bed a day on a rotation. We also have an elderly angry incontinent cat who pisses fucking everywhere so this week i have also been washing soaf cushions, duvets, blankets etc.

So all that adds up to about 3washes a day, but one of those washes is a15 minute wash.

Anyway..... today I had finally finished washing cat-pissed blankets and drying the,. Had Ds's PE kit washed and dried and in his pe bag. Had his uniform laid out. Had my clothes laid out for tomorrow. Had put fresh blankets on beds. Then I walked out to get into the car to drive to the shops and on the way back stepped in dog shit and so then had to wash car footwell mats, my shoes, the clutch and my trousers.

Ive lived with flatmates and washed clothes together etc.

Things will change now im not working but usual routine was the washing machine was going on 2x a week, dryer once.

1x a week for clothes- clean tunic/leggings everyday plus knickers and socks if I wore them, 3x pair of pyjamas, 2/3 bras and pair of jeans and 2/3 tops I wore on days off/going out after work.

1x a week for bed linen (replaced weekly) and towels which I replace 2x a week.

I only use my dryer for underwear, pyjamas and pillow cases and under sheets. Rest goes on clothes horses.

General rule of thumb anyway. Especially during winter I might find I have to throw something in the tumble to finish off if I need something for the next day.

Now im not working (might be a bit long term) Im hoping to get away with clothes washing every 10 days or so as i have plenty of casual clothes.

Ripeningapples · 15/11/2015 21:51

7kg. Two adults, one teenager. Double bed two weekly and single two weekly every other week iyswim. Towels once a week. Two light and two dark washes on average. So, that's six loads. Clean tops, knickers, socks, tights daily, jeans every two/three wears, dh's casual trousers at weekends.

Is mind numbingly boring but part of the routine.

CocktailQueen · 15/11/2015 21:53

Some people are just incredible. Wasting the planet's resources washing separate uniform, sports gear and tea towels? Jesus.

You really don't need to wash two loads of towels per week, either...

Family of four, two kids doing sports. Four loads per week.

Artandco · 15/11/2015 21:53

Cheesy - does your son need his school uniform washed daily? Does he only have one set? Mine def rewear school jumpers and trousers/ shorts if they look clean, just change school shirt and underwear daily (but they aren't a washed daily, just when enough whites to fill machine)

Girlfriend36 · 15/11/2015 21:53

I seem to do a lot as well, there is only me and 9yo dd but I would say I easily do a load every day! Tbf I am a nurse so my uniforms have to be washed daily and dd is the kind of child that dirt seems to leap onto but even so....

formerbabe · 15/11/2015 21:53

I do a normal load every other day. That is clothes and underwear, tea towels etc

Tea towels with underwear Shock

janethegirl2 · 15/11/2015 21:55

8kg machine, 2 adults, 1 towel wash,1 bedding wash, 1 dark cycle and 1 white cycle per typical week i.e. 4 cycles per week but it is much more if dcs are at home.

hazeyjane · 15/11/2015 21:56

Usually 1 or 2 a day. Occasionally we are overwhelmed by washing and I have to up it to 3 a day.

We have a 7 kg machine
There are 5 of us

itsthecircleoflife · 15/11/2015 21:56

Why do some people seperate colours. I dont have extreme differences in colours tbh, but am I the only one who has a mixed load setting on my washing machine Confused

curiousc88t · 15/11/2015 21:58

1 to 2 loads a week

Persil colour which means you can wash all colors together at the same time

Dry everything outside

CheesyNachos · 15/11/2015 21:59

Artanco, he has two sets of uniform because they were very pricey (independent school). He is also autistic and seems to get alot of mess everywhere, so there is always lunch on his jersey and his trousers etc. His polo shirt underneath is usually fine, but I just throw it in with the rest. i find it easier to do a 15 minute wash rather than sponging the mess off it, but I could do a spot clean.... just I tend to clean, clean. Part of that is because I feel a bit self conscious. He has sensory issues and we have major issues getting him into a bath etc and getting his hair cut, so a part of it is me saying 'see, his clothes are clean'. If you see what I mean? He is bathed on average 2 times a week- sometimes 3 times if I get lucky, so this might be a subconscious compensating.

dementedma · 15/11/2015 22:01

Love a washing thread and always end up staggered at the amount of washing people do.
4 of us here and do about 3 loads a week.

FunnysInLaJardin · 15/11/2015 22:01

4 of us and we do about 4 loads at the weekend tops. Never wash during the week and have a 9kg washer and a 9kg dryer. This week I did 3 loads

TheFear · 15/11/2015 22:02

formerbabe what is the problem with tea towels and underwear together?
