Complementing guys on Instagram on their physique is not cheating

Twizzelgrl · 10/11/2015 08:35

Bf started using insta on my tablet last night and noticed I pay complements to a few guys with good bodies on there. He got a bit pissed off and went quiet and said it was a form of cheating. I don't keep my tablet locked or my insta private as I've nothing to hide. Most of the guys I follow are fit and intelligent with interesting philosophical views. He's overreacting right?

Are your Instagram photos:

  1. Inspiring landscape photos of majestic natural wonders?
  2. You duckfacing/in a bikini?

Forgive me if I've got you wrong.

If you use social media to get compliments on your face/body, then I can see why you compliment others. It's a game, where 'likes' or 'pins' are points. I've got more than you, the more I get the better I am, and so on.

I don't understand it though, and I don't blame your bloke for being annoyed. Not really because of jealousy, but because it's just really superficial and boring.

Thanks for making my day, Skipton Grin.

DontHaveAUsername · 10/11/2015 09:19

Not sure why it matters if this is a reverse, it doesn't change anything. I don't think it's a form of cheating, I think your bf is overreacting.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 10/11/2015 09:19

Don't point out the hun use, it's racist apparently

Commenting on random peoples' Instagram to say they look hot is totally weird, immature and pathetic to be honest. If my bf was doing it I'd dump him for being a twat.

Twizzelgrl · 10/11/2015 09:22

OK girls thanks for all your advice, I will tone it down x

Off to work now

I am an open book what you see is what you get

This is usually a phrase people use to get away with knobbish behaviour that they don't want to change.

Epilepsyhelp · 10/11/2015 09:28

Sounds like a pretty twatty thing to do tbf. If you want to sit on Instagram complementing strangers follow people who have cute cats or take arty shots or something.

I think complements on looks are the shallowest kind, unless I suppose it's someone who spends hours down the gym honing thousands of ripply muscles

QforCucumber · 10/11/2015 09:38

Personally I think there is a vast difference between complimenting someones suit, and telling them they have a fit body!

If I saw that my DP was commenting on random womens' pictures about their 'physique' (so basically saying how hot they look?!) I would also be furious, no it's not cheating but seriously?!
If he came home from a night out saying he was speaking to this amazingly beautiful woman and he just had to tell her - I'd also be a little Hmm
Funnily enough I'm also aware that he wouldn't be happy about me doing it.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 10/11/2015 09:56

Yabu for the use of 'hun' alone! You're also unreasonable on the instagram thing.

Careful, Paul, apparently disliking Hun is racist... who knew? ConfusedHmm

PaulAnkaTheDog · 10/11/2015 10:09

Tell me you're joking GoringBit?

Pleeeeeease.

definitelybutter · 10/11/2015 10:11

Op said she's Italian American on another thread and as they use Hun a lot it's racist to moan about it. Then another Italian American came on and told her to give her head a wobble (paraphrasing)

YouBastardSockBalls · 10/11/2015 10:20

The 'gram' is like, far too much effort.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight You cannot be serious. I think we've reached a critical mass on this thread.

MrsBojingles · 10/11/2015 10:21

Whatever did narcissists do before all this social media?

Paid daft amounts of money to artists to paint huge pictures of themselves looking important and gorgeous. Or marble statues, busts, etc.

MaidOfStars · 10/11/2015 10:22

I want to see the Instagram feed.

GoringBit · 10/11/2015 10:58

Sorry, Paul, not joking. Grin

crumpet · 10/11/2015 11:03

So you make comments on the appearance of complete strangers on Instagram? And you're an adult?

I'd not be impressed.

goodnessgraciousgoudaoriginal · 10/11/2015 11:22

It's creepy to objectify people, and very disrespectful to your partner to be ogling other men. And that's essentially what you have been doing.
