YADNBU. And I don't like egg whites - I just eat the lovely runny yolk & DH polishes off the white. Sausage, egg & chips is such a wonderful comfort tea.

revealall · 08/11/2015 22:37

I recently had ham egg and chips for the first time ever. Friend ordered it in Weatherspoons and it looked delicious.
I'm 45.

Have had it every week since.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 08/11/2015 22:37

This thread has reminded me, that like a PP my mum used to make egg and chips by cooking the egg in the chip pan after taking the chips out. She called it a frizzled egg - it was amazing. I haven't had it, or thought about it for years but now think I'll have to introduce it to my DCs

iklboo · 08/11/2015 22:39

Oooh I do love Brie & cranberry, but with lovely crispy, salty bacon as well. Now you've mentioned rocket as an addition it sounds perfect. But about 10 million calories Sad

emotionsecho · 08/11/2015 22:41

I agree OP it is the food of the Gods, especially with the obligatory salt, pepper, malt vinegar and side order of white bread and butter and a gigantic mug of builders teaGrin.

Absolutely has to be proper chips though.

purplewhale · 08/11/2015 22:43

This Fred has set me off, we'll be having egg and chips with our gammon steaks tomorrow night now Smile

OstentatiousBreastfeeder · 08/11/2015 22:47

My DH, who was raised by a Guyanese granny, laughs his head off when I tell him about my favourite tea growing up. You have to have enough yolk to chip ratio to ensure adequate dippage.

I'm going to show him this thread!!

jeanmiguelfangio · 08/11/2015 22:49

Yes yes yes YANBU! Dh bless him fried new potatoes we had left over. It was not the same. Good fried chips, egg, lots of salt, tomato sauce

StarkyTheDirewolf · 08/11/2015 22:49

Egg and chips is one of my absolute favourite nostalgia meals. My late dgm used to make me and my cousins egg and chips for tea. Same goes for mince and chips, egg chopped up in a cup and sausage, mash and beans. Ambrosia of the gods Grin I'm in my happy place now, remembering.

kippersmum · 08/11/2015 23:09

Egg & chips is wonderful. Fried egg sandwich is food of the gods :) smear of marmite on one bit of bread & you are sorted..

GiddyOnZackHunt · 08/11/2015 23:22

Twenty years ago when my mum still had her chip pan, whenever I went home she'd do egg, beans and chips for me. The fluffiest crispy chips, egg dropped in the chip fat to cook and Heinz beans.
I had a little weep when the chip pan was retired in favour of oven chips.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 08/11/2015 23:24

Fried egg sandwiches. With salt and ketchup. Yummy.

Makingchanges · 08/11/2015 23:25

I had this today. Mainly because I by accident ordered 4 large packs of eggs in my shopping. Best meal of the whole week. Proper peeled potato chips, fried eggs and bread and butter. Chip butty first then made an egg sandwich out of the White (with a little yolk left) amazing!!

squoosh · 08/11/2015 23:26

How can someone have never eaten a friend egg!?

squoosh · 08/11/2015 23:26

ooops, 'fried' egg. Don't eat your friend's egg, that would be icky,

FithColumnist · 08/11/2015 23:29

Just about to make dinner tonight, and the plan was cheese omelette and chips. Now I feel like I have seen the light and am obviously going to do fried egg and chips. With brown sauce, as god intended.

OP, not only are you NBU, but I actually think you might be some kind of messiah figure.

Crispbutty · 09/11/2015 00:02

Threads like this make me miss my mum.. Her go to was Poached eggs, homemade chips and Heinz spaghetti , with warburtons milk roll and butter, (plenty of salt and vinegar on the chips) ... If I could turn back time I would love to eat that right now.

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 09/11/2015 01:08

Never had it, can't eat eggs. I like ham and chips though, lots of salt, bread and butter and a mug of tea :)

toffeeboffin · 09/11/2015 01:20

Fried egg and cbips
Sausage, egg, chips and beans
Ham, egg and chips (ham from a tin, blast from the past)
Heinze ravioli and cheese on toast
Heinz macaroni served with toast soldiers

Corned beef ash. Served with ketchup.
Really good served with something called 'milk roll' which is a white circular sliced bread, preferably Warburtons.

toffeeboffin · 09/11/2015 01:24

My grandad was in Paris in WW2 and this was what he lived off as it was the only my thing he could say in French!

God knows what the French thought of him!

RaphaellaTheSpanishWaterDog · 09/11/2015 01:36

YANBU.......I love egg and chips - it has to be real home made chips (we bought a deep fat fryer specially for this purpose), runny yolks (I can't eat the whites - our dogs get those) with tomato ketchup, lots of salt and white bread & butter.......yum Grin DH likes ham/gammon and a pickled onion (Garners) with his, but that kind of ruins it for me as would baked beans, but then I don't eat beans with a fried breakfast either. No tea - can't stand the stuff!

shadowfax07 · 09/11/2015 01:36

Nigel Slater has a recipe for a one pot fried potato, bacon and mushroom 'salad' that is absolutely divine with a 'dippy' egg (or three) on top. I think it's in real fast food, if anyone else wants to try it. Everyone we've fed it to asks for the recipe.

TelephoneIgnoringMachine · 09/11/2015 01:48

YANBU. Sometimes, for a change, I have sweet potato wedges, a fried egg, & a roasted pepper (done in the oven with the wedges). A strangely delicious combination.

dratsea · 09/11/2015 02:34

Do you want with that?
