I bloody love egg and chips, particularly with some thick slices of home cooked ham. Heaven!

Fried egg butty is my hangover food.

Eminado · 08/11/2015 21:17

I really do not understand this meal, sorry Blush.

It just gives me a complete brain freeze.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 08/11/2015 21:17

Egg and chips, salt, white pepper. ketchup. Perfection on a plate.

Pranmasghost · 08/11/2015 21:19

Egg and chips is my favourite food in the world, it always has been. Crisp golden chips, soft inside, the egg white set and a golden dippable yolk, bliss.

Eminado · 08/11/2015 21:20

You guys need a tv show honestly. I just do not get it.

NutCrackerSlacker · 08/11/2015 21:21

YANBU. Its my ultimate comfort food and has been all through my life. Nothing beats it.

ToGrapefruit · 08/11/2015 21:22

My perfect meal is Egg and Chips.

Should be accompanied by white bread and butter (though if it was marge, I'd feel all nostalgic!) and mugs of tea.

Also should be served with salt, (malt) vinegar (or chip shop 'non brewed condiment!) and both colours of sauce on the table as options- though I'd probably have neither, but I like the idea.

I like it with a few peas (for colour mainly) to make me feel more virtuous. Possibly marrowfat ones, a strangely delicious yet deeply unfashionable pleasure!

It was a staple meal of my childhood but my mother always used to serve it with steamed cabbage... the less said about that the better! I love cabbage as well, but it's not a combination I like. She made amazing chips though, deep fried in a terrifyingly rickety old pan with a wobbly handle, removed with a metal slotted spoon.

ToGrapefruit · 08/11/2015 21:23

Emin, it's heavenly! I urge you to try it very soon! (not with cabbage though... see my previous post!)

backtowork2015 · 08/11/2015 21:27

We have egg, chips and beans on a Friday night, used to get takeaway but this treat has replaced it. My dh builds chip "dams" to stop the beans getting too close to the egg which is always sunny side up. I spend all friday looking forward to it. Perfection on the plate

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 08/11/2015 21:29

I've never had proper egg and chips, but I do breakfast of champions (at any time of day), which is fried potatoes and onions with a fried egg. Maybe some bacon or sausages. Ketchup and brown sauce. Mug of tea the size of my head. Add some chunks of fried bread if you have nice bread. If you are feeling very swish, some snipped spring onion.

YABU

food of the gods is Ham, egg and chips

BestIsWest · 08/11/2015 21:31

I am reminded of Shirley a Valentine too. Chips and egg.

DM fries the egg in the chip pan so it is all crispy. DH hates a crispy egg and for some reason calls it a 'London' egg.

jeavcike · 08/11/2015 21:33

Yanbu. At all.
My step-dad used to call me 'Chips & Egg' because that's all I'd want to eat as a teen/young adult.

I remember going to a restaurant for work one day, being afraid to even try any of the food on the menu and asking them to make me chips & egg, which they did ShockBlush

I've since expanded my food repertoire quite a lot but still love this as a meal - thick but crispy chips, with a sprinkling of salt, dunked into a fried egg with a soft yolk. Delicious! In fact, I haven't had this for aaaages and am really craving it now!

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 08/11/2015 21:33

But it must be crispy!

TheGreenNinja · 08/11/2015 21:35

I made egg and chips for the first time in aaaages over the half term and all of my fussy children lapped it up (almost literally) and raved over it. I don't have a proper chip pan though so making the chips in a teeny tiny pan was such a faff, I'm tempted to get a deep fat fryer just for this meal.

BigChocFrenzy · 08/11/2015 22:06

Has Mumsnet been invaded by extraterrestrials ?
Who are these Terrans who've never eaten a fried egg Hmm < looks suspiciously on thread for "pod people" >

Egg + chips, nice.
Plus streaky bacon, Heinz beanz & ketchup Grin < big drool > as close to heaven as I wish to get.

headexplodesbodyfreezes · 08/11/2015 22:10

How posh do you have to be to have never eaten egg & chips then?

timelytess · 08/11/2015 22:17

Wrote a poem about them.

Now I want egg and chips! Even though it's 10.20 pm.
I know what tomorrow's tea will consist of!

romeomorningwhisky · 08/11/2015 22:23

Lol Brie & Cranberry on Bruschetta = posh cheese on toast.
Sounds lovely !

EGG & CHIPS THOUGH,
Needs to be served with white bread buttered & tomato ketchup.
Haven't had that for years. ( Just egg & chips )
Can almost taste it! Yum!

allwineismine · 08/11/2015 22:26

My favourite meal! Proper treat just for me when DP goes out with his mates.
I have mine with mayo though Blush
Lots of salt and mayonnaise. Heaven.

hels71 · 08/11/2015 22:27

I think I come down on the side of beans. And possibly some brown sauce... :)
