£65 for a band you need to be off your face on MDMA to listen to???? Really?

I also hate The Smiths. Apparently I should be banished from Manchester.

Well clearly with my username I'm going to say YABU.

Finsbury Park in 2013 was one of the best gigs I've ever been to. It was a beautiful day, I was there with friends and DH slightly pissed on rough white wine and it was bliss.

I have nothing but happy memories of that day and the Stone Roses in general.

TheSconeOfStone · 06/11/2015 14:40

I'd love to go but I long way for me to travel to Manchester and DH wouldn't be interested.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 06/11/2015 14:42

courteeners think it was that very band I last went through this stress for, ds's are in SW but think they want to live in Manchester Smile all their fave bands seem to be up there.

DingleberryDip · 06/11/2015 14:43

Pulp and Suede would be good name for a book shop/shoe shop hybrid.

devilsbumbag · 06/11/2015 14:46

I used to work for one of the Stone Roses (won't say which one). He and his wife were very pleasant, as were their kids. Their house wasn't that posh or even in a posh area but they always had nice middle class snacks on their kitchen table.

Cloppysow · 06/11/2015 14:47

I discovered the stone roses when i was about 19. Bloody loved them.

Morrisey is indeed and absolute wanker. Can't suffer him. Smiths were good though.

pinechesterdrawers · 06/11/2015 14:57

ian brown was great, even more so solo late 90s and 2000s.

DrDreReturns · 06/11/2015 14:59

I've always thought they were shit.

WallToWallBastards · 06/11/2015 15:17

Yes to Pulp and the Manics though. Absolutely.

All of you kidding yourselves that the Heaton Park gig was great must have had some top quality drugs and/or and an inordinately high tolerance level for being pushed about by lairy middle-aged wankers. Third summer of love my arse, I'd never go see them in this country again.

After the Heaton Park gigs I went to see them in Belgium and they were awesome. I even had to recant my previous assertions that Ian Brown couldn't carry a tune in a bucket.

ButtonMoon88 · 06/11/2015 15:23

Not a fan but can totally see how influential they were, shame they brought about Oasis who I loathe.

I also think it's really funny that man united fans will be playing at man city, but at least that shit hole will be full for once! Wink

ButtonMoon88 · 06/11/2015 15:24

I've seen both Pulp and Blur- both were incredible but Pulp are my all time favourite!!

MaidOfStars · 06/11/2015 15:30

Ah Blur. My favourite band for 20 years. Lost count of the number of times I've seen them live.

Never seen Pulp Envy

DingleberryDip · 06/11/2015 15:31

I've snogged Jarvis Cocker.

DingleberryDip · 06/11/2015 15:32

That's a lie. I haven't.

judgelionelnutmeg · 06/11/2015 15:42

I saw the Roses at Reading in '96 as I loved them and had never got to see them before - that was when they were on the main stage and everyone was leaving in droves to watch Underworld as mentioned upthread. The Roses' performance was absolutely appalling that night as is well known.

But then the Heaton Park gigs were announced so I thought nothing will ever be as bad as Reading 96 so took a chance and got me and DH tickets for the Saturday and off we went to Heaton Park.

Put up with Beady Eye and then on came the Roses.

And it was FUCKING BRILLIANT. And there was one bit, it was somewhere around 'This is the one' and 'She bangs the drums ' - I stopped dancing and singing (or rather bellowing the lyrics) just momentarily to look round and EVERYONE and I mean EVERYONE that I could see in the huge crowd was dancing and singing, completely transported away with the music and atmosphere.

You know when you watch a documentary about a 'primitive' tribe in another country and the whole tribe have worked themselves up by singing and dancing into a state of trance/ecstacy/heightened consciousness - whatever. And you maybe can't ever imagine yourself doing that 'cos it's just not what we do, is it?

Well I saw that in Heaton Park that night and I was part of that and for a little while I understood and if I live to be a hundred I will never forget that moment.

P.S I hadn't taken MDMA or any drugs!

KatharineClifton · 06/11/2015 17:31

I've never been into The Stranglers, but saw them at a festival and they were bloody brilliant.

REM are probably the best gigs I've been to, but a little far off from BritPop.

KatharineClifton · 06/11/2015 17:31

DingleberryDip Grin

Ubik1 · 06/11/2015 19:31

Yes it was Reading '96!

I saw Pulp at T in the Park and they were awesome.

Faithless at Glastonbury - also amazing.

And Nirvana at Reading - when everyone though kurt contain was dead.

BettyBlueToo · 06/11/2015 20:58

Never got the Stone Roses, I wanted to but I just couldn't warm to their music. FB today has been full of excited people with tickets. I went to see Twenty One Pilots last night with a billion teenagers, they were amazing.

SmellyFartado · 06/11/2015 21:20

YABVVVVU!

The Smiths/Morrissey on the other hand were a right load of old miserable bollocks. And Blur for that matter.

poorbuthappy · 06/11/2015 21:27

I got tickets this morning for Friday.
I should have got tickets for Saturday.

I almost cried when I realised.
DH's birthday present up the fucking spout

glintwithpersperation · 06/11/2015 21:32

ShockHmm
How can you say such things - YABVVU
The stone roses were fabulous with and without MDMA
Morrisey is a grumpy old bugger but has an amazing voice, is brilliant live and is a superb lyricist. The Smiths were one of the best bands in last 30years

glintwithpersperation · 06/11/2015 21:32

Managed to get tickets for Friday and Saturday- hotel is booked. Can't bloody wait

MaidOfStars · 06/11/2015 22:29

poor Can you not make the Friday? There will be loads of swaps available. Are you seated or standing?
