I forgave Paul Whitehouse for the awful Aviva / Norwich Union ads as it'd been a while since the Fast Show but I've just seen Nicole Kidman on a "Compare The Market / Meerkat" ad. AIBU to be a bit Shock

why insurance costs so bloody much]]

What's most shocking about it is that it uses the music from Tom Cruise's Top Gun!

Lurleene · 04/11/2015 23:49

I can't get over the fact that the 'love theme' music in the ad is from Top Gun and therefore associated with her EX-HUSBAND Tom Cruise. Seems a bit insensitive to me Confused.

Lurleene · 04/11/2015 23:50

Massive x-post

Hygge · 04/11/2015 23:55

I wondered about the Top Gun music as well, but decided she must have agreed to it and was taking the piss out of him by pretending to date a really short, irritating, hamster faced creature.

icelollycraving · 04/11/2015 23:59

Grin hygge

QuizteamBleakley · 05/11/2015 00:01

Bloody hell = I hadn't even spotted that!

not just Nicole, Arnold Sch. too! sorry can't spell the surname ha.

coolaschmoola · 05/11/2015 00:58

Is it me or does she look like she's had some work done on her face?

Senpai · 05/11/2015 03:57

Yeah, video filters. They smooth out the skin and make people look younger. Grin

Sansoora · 05/11/2015 04:56

Her dress could have been a better fit.

KenAdams · 05/11/2015 07:00

They don't actually sell car insurance they're just a comparison site. The prices come from the insurers themselves.

AnyoneButAndre · 05/11/2015 07:02

True, but the cost of running the comparison site and all their advertising is still ultimately paid by insurance customers

floppyjogger · 05/11/2015 07:06

I was more shocked when Sly Stallone popped up to advertise bread Shock

Are these Hollywood stars skint?

TheCrimsonPleb · 05/11/2015 07:45

I thought the OP was going to be a comment on La Kidman's use of botox and fillers ie her jazzed up face looks like that of a meerkat.

Shockers · 05/11/2015 07:54

I thought it was taking the piss out of TC too!

WMittens · 05/11/2015 09:03

That is true, but they market themselves on finding you the cheapest quote (and seems to work) - therefore, paying large amounts on marketing is still cheaper for the end customer than using a company who doesn't use large amounts of advertising. Those smaller, less-advertised, more expensive companies, what are they charging for?

APlaceOnTheCouch · 05/11/2015 09:07

I knew what this thread would be about as soon as I read the title Grin because I was so shocked to see her in a meerkats advert with her 'filter-improved' face that I Googled to check it was actually her. And then I was a bit disappointed that she was in a meerkats advert although I love Hygge's interpretation

JoffreyBaratheon · 05/11/2015 09:54

I think when your career's on the decline, you do ads abroad that no-one in Hollywood will see, if you're one of these people...

Sadder to see Willem Dafoe on the BT ad as BT are nothing more than shysters and I loved him in 'Platoon' and also rated him as a decent actor. Nothing wrong with paying their mortgage/divorce settlements etc, but... BT? I also loathe the BT ad as it is one of those self indulgent ads-about-marketing-men the marketing men so love.

Always hated those fecking meerkats but rather loved Nicole ever since she was in that BMX film as a little ginger Aussie kid. It's the same feeling I got when she sang that duet with Robbie Williams. Oh no, Nicole, why did you do that?

BlueMoonRising · 05/11/2015 10:02

'that no-one else will see' - that was before You-tube, surely....

Sansoora · 05/11/2015 10:04

I loved that duet with Robbie.

JoffreyBaratheon · 05/11/2015 10:06

I dunno. I doubt Hollywood producers are combing YouTube for anyone's dodgy European ads back catalogue...

squoosh · 05/11/2015 10:33

American stars have always done this. It's a quick way to make a nice wodge of cash in Japan or wherever.

The Al Pacino ad for Sky Broadband was depressing though.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 05/11/2015 11:23

Kavin Bacon and EE makes me go Hmm

squoosh · 05/11/2015 11:37

I quite like the Kevin Bacon ads.

Plus he needs the money, Bernie Madoff stole all his savings apparently.
