"Ginger boys are just ugly"

CrumpetHead · 30/10/2015 22:17

Just wanted to rant Angry

Had 32wk consultant appointment today, sat in tiny waiting room with about 15 other people all crammed in and there's two women sat opposite DP and I chatting to each other, conversation goes something like "have you ever thought that your baby could be ginger" "oh god no don't say that, I wouldn't mind so much if it was a girl but ginger boys are just ugly, yuk"

DP was sat next to me and could hear the whole thing, he is ginger and so is our 14 month old DS. How rude can you get?!
DP wears a cap constantly when he's out because he got teased in school about it.

What difference does it make what colour hair you have? It's just a colour the same as brown, blonde, black are colours! Thinking about it now it's really making my blood boil and if I could turn back time I wish I'd have said something to them instead of staying quiet because I didn't want to cause an argument.
Idiots Sad

"Today 22:32 DangerousBeanz

I give you this"

And again, EXACTLY! Grin

Anyone ever heard Tim Minchin's song? I love it. And him. Grin

CuteAsaF0x · 30/10/2015 22:47

no, there's one in ireland too. Redgister Wink next August!

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 30/10/2015 22:47

Yeah I know what you mean Happfeet and Flowers. It's just like black people? Some of them are a lovely colour and some of them - well, they're just really black, aren't they? It's not good, sorry. Hmm

Give your heads a wobble, eh?

WorraLiberty · 30/10/2015 22:47

Is it actually racist to say you don't like ginger hair?

Genuine question btw.

Beebar · 30/10/2015 22:48

Rupert Griffith who plays Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movies is much more attractive than Daniel Radcliffe! You don't often see red haired people on screen, but imo, in real life they're very pleasing to look at!!

ALLthedinosaurs · 30/10/2015 22:48

I have a "carrot" ginger boy with lots and lots of long orange hair. Random strangers openly admire his hair. He is gorgeous.

I am auburn and I do like my hair colour but I would rather be bright red

HairyLittleCarrot · 30/10/2015 22:48

Oh look at that, the requisite losers have joined the thread to chime in. Well done Happfeet, and you, that shit poster person. Hello again. So, that's public breastfeeding and gingers you're against today? Jolly good.

Most people are adept at hiding their personality flaws so when knobbers like these out themselves as tools so willingly it's rather helpful in knowing whose opinions to completely disregard, no?

In the meantime, ginger hair is completely amazing in all it's glorious variations and only those who dropped out of the evolutionary race a little early think to comment otherwise.

In my opinion :-)

PurplePoppy17 · 30/10/2015 22:49

If that was me I'd have said something to them...How dare they say something so horrible. I personally think ginger boys are the cutest little babies ever. Smile

zippyswife · 30/10/2015 22:49

I'm expecting dc3. I am hoping this one is a redhead (2 blondes so far). I've always loved having red hair and would love a child with my colouring whether a boy or girl.

Sounbelievablydull · 30/10/2015 22:50

I am so horrified by this.
It's not just casual abusive comments like the one made by happy feet it's the fact that wonderful young people especially boys have been driven to suicide by bullying because of their hair colour. I have also seen a case where a young man up north somewhere was fatally stabbed for being ginger
My son is gingeras am I.
I cannot begin to tell the negativity that has come with this.
A good friend of mine advised me to dye his hair when he was very small.
My dgs is kind funny clever but all stupid arseholes like happy feet see is a hair colour which we have absolutely no control over. Skin tone comes with this and yes we are unremittingly White.
It would be beyond. The pale for any intelligent informed person to denigrate a black, Asian or disabled person but it's totally acceptable to abuse someone with red hair
I worry constantly when my son is out that he will be a target of abuse or violence because of his hair colour.
Hope your feet are happy now

RiverTam · 30/10/2015 22:50

I think it almost is, Worra - it's something you're born with, just like being black or gay. Scotland is home to I believe something like 90% of red-headed people in the world.

It's a pretty hateful thing to say snd believe.

SleepyForest · 30/10/2015 22:51

Poor ds has to put up with "kick a ginger day" and being told "gingers have no souls". He would rather have any other hair colour at the moment.

People are cruel.

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 30/10/2015 22:51

I wouldn't say it is racist

but I agree that perhaps the more irish red hair look freckly fair lashes light eyes is more likely to be teased and this may be from prejudice

but then again I am not sure many would tease Damien Lewis

Beebar · 30/10/2015 22:51

Yes, Prince Harry and Ewan MacGregor. Also the lead in CSI Miami.

AugustRose · 30/10/2015 22:52

I have two ginger DC and one is a boy, he is 19 and I have lost count the the number of times he/we has been stopped by people to say how beautiful his hair and eyes are - even a teacher at school when he was about 13 (that was actually creepy). Last year when he was in Glasgow alone, he came out of a pub and an older American lady stopped him in the street to tell him how much she loved his hair.

He has sadly had some negative comments at school from idiots who would otherwise be called racist but it seems it's OK to do it to ginger people Angry.

Strangely DD (8) hasn't had any negative comments, only positive - I really hope it stays that way.

Sorry you and your DP had to listen those idiots OP.

Mmmmcake123 · 30/10/2015 22:52

Sean McGowan, Robert Redford when young

Walkingonsunshine00 · 30/10/2015 22:52

Move to Scotland, gingers are seen as 'cool' Grin

Seriously though, very rude

scatterthenuns · 30/10/2015 22:53

Awwww I want one!

Cute ginger baby one

Cute ginger baby two

SurlyCue · 30/10/2015 22:54

I will never forget congratulating my old neighbour on the birth of her daughter and saying how beautiful she was. She replied "except for her [ginger] hair. Cant wait til I can dye it" Shock imagine feeling like that about your newborn baby! Poor child hearing that from her own mother as she grows up.

Happfeet2911 · 30/10/2015 22:54

Ok flowers, you and I are in the shit, who cares, Harry is sexy, carrot is not, think mick hucknall, just wrong!

yumyumpoppycat · 30/10/2015 22:54

A mum I know with red/ginger hair once said a similar thing to me when I was heavily pg with dc 3 (my eldest child is a boy with ginger hair) she commented that ginger hair is fine for girls but not for boys. I prob should have said don't be so fing rude but I think I just smiled and said something about ginger hair being popular for boys now lots of actors have ginger hair. I prob shouldnt have felt the need to say that though! How can ginger hair be ok for girls but not boys...weird Confused

Littlemissjt · 30/10/2015 22:54

I have a ginger baby and he's gorgeous!

Fwiw, I did have a what if he gets a hard time at school panic at first but I thought of all the ginger kids I've taught. I don't think they do make as big an issue of it these days and when any other kids have said anything like 'you're ginger' they've been quickly shot down with replies like "and?" "Well noticed" "your point?" etc.

I do hope those women don't have ginger babies as they just won't be appreciated!

Beebar · 30/10/2015 22:54

Why are British/Celtic people so anti- ginger when it's apart of their heritage? Or is it more cool to dye your licks blond and use a sunbed until you get all prune looking? That is yuck imo

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 30/10/2015 22:54

'Being ginger' isn't a race so technically no, it isn't racist Worra. Although if you are slagging off a ginger you are probably slagging a Celt.

I used racist language above to point out how fucking rude and unacceptable it is to say someone's born colouring is 'not good'.

scatterthenuns · 30/10/2015 22:57

Thats because Mick Hucknall is ugly, not because he's ginger.

Make his hair brown and he's still ugly.
