Just wanted to rant

Had 32wk consultant appointment today, sat in tiny waiting room with about 15 other people all crammed in and there's two women sat opposite DP and I chatting to each other, conversation goes something like "have you ever thought that your baby could be ginger" "oh god no don't say that, I wouldn't mind so much if it was a girl but ginger boys are just ugly, yuk"

DP was sat next to me and could hear the whole thing, he is ginger and so is our 14 month old DS. How rude can you get?!
DP wears a cap constantly when he's out because he got teased in school about it.

What difference does it make what colour hair you have? It's just a colour the same as brown, blonde, black are colours! Thinking about it now it's really making my blood boil and if I could turn back time I wish I'd have said something to them instead of staying quiet because I didn't want to cause an argument.

My husband is a ginger. A proper orange you could see for a mile off in the dark through a power cut ginger. He's awesome.
Before my ds was born a 'friend' asked if I'd looked into what hair dye you could use on a child 'in case it came out ginger'. She was a twat. He isn't ginger unfortunately. I never did get a red haired kid. I blame my parents.

I have a blonde boy and a red haired girl ( both stunning beautiful children of course) people have actually said I was lucky it wasn't the other way round as ginger isn't nice for a boy utter bollocks and unbelievable rude, my friends handsome 14 son wears a ginger pride t shirt, must get dd one!

he probably will get teased at some point most children do but we celebrate differences more than ever, he is confident and easily the most popular boy in his class because he is just wonderful

oh and I laughed at the nobody loves a ginger kid card that was out a few years ago really how can you take something so stupid seriously

Please do explain what is wrong with the natural hair colouring that many people have.

I have never come across this level of vitriol against red hair until I moved to the UK. Which is ironic seeing that red hair is so much more common here than in my home country (Germany) where it is much admired and envied.

And don't get me started on 'ginger people smell funny'

As a matter of personal preference of course you can like or dislike red hair but the whole 'Ooh, what will I do if my baby turns out ginger?' is just horrible and I Will Judge anybody who says shite like that.

My DP is ginger and I have to admit I was very relieved when DD was born with my dark skin/hair. Obviously I don't find ginger people ugly as I wouldn't be with DP but I hated the thought of my child being bullied over something as stupid as her hair colour.

I have red hair but I occasionally see something that makes me laugh. Like the sperm clinic says ''no ginger tossers''. I laughed at that. But then I don't have freckles.. I think it's people with freckles and see through eye lashes who get a hard time. jmo.

Sounds just like the rants I've heard about how disgusting and unnecessary breastfeeding is, when I've had people in earshot bemoaning how awful having your baby around and cooing. Ignore. They are vulgar, thick and lack class.
