"Ginger boys are just ugly"

Just wanted to rant Angry

Had 32wk consultant appointment today, sat in tiny waiting room with about 15 other people all crammed in and there's two women sat opposite DP and I chatting to each other, conversation goes something like "have you ever thought that your baby could be ginger" "oh god no don't say that, I wouldn't mind so much if it was a girl but ginger boys are just ugly, yuk"

DP was sat next to me and could hear the whole thing, he is ginger and so is our 14 month old DS. How rude can you get?!
DP wears a cap constantly when he's out because he got teased in school about it.

What difference does it make what colour hair you have? It's just a colour the same as brown, blonde, black are colours! Thinking about it now it's really making my blood boil and if I could turn back time I wish I'd have said something to them instead of staying quiet because I didn't want to cause an argument.
Idiots Sad

Fassbender is ginger enough for me.

Usually if I'm working out whether I fancy someone it depends at least in part on their personality. But I just take one look at Fassbender and think "let's make ginger babies. Repeatedly".

MitzyLeFrouf · 31/10/2015 17:58

Well he has a ginger beard but no I definitely wouldn't call him a redhead.

Gabilan · 31/10/2015 18:02

He has pale, freckly skin and blue eyes. My hair was a much brighter ginger when I was a child. I wonder if his was too.

MamaLazarou · 31/10/2015 18:07

I'd just like to say: Joshua Homme.

Erm, I've had four redhaired lovers - and I dye my own hair a fetching hue of scarlet. I think that demonstrates my personal view.
I'm bemused why grown adults bully kids like this. It's bad enough when children do it.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 31/10/2015 18:46

Michael Fassbender is most definitely a ginger.

MitzyLeFrouf · 31/10/2015 18:51

No he isn't. He's got a vaguely golden hue to his hair in some lights but that's about it.

Rab19 · 31/10/2015 19:32

I'm married to a Ginge & hoped to have a ginger child - DS2 has the eyebrows & temperement, but DS1 is a brunette like me. . . FWIW, my DH was attemptedly bullied at school, but punched the lad who tried to do so & was never bullied again not that I advocate violence

MamaLazarou · 31/10/2015 19:35

I'm still holding out for a red-haired DC2 Smile My granny had lovely peachy ginger hair (I suspect she helps it along a bit these days as she is 86 and still ginger!).

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 31/10/2015 19:43

Michael Fassbender

Quite clearly of the red headed variety.

MitzyLeFrouf · 31/10/2015 20:04

Not from where I'm standing.

Vaguely auburn in some lights does not a ginger make.

squoosh · 31/10/2015 20:36

Most Irish men are a leeetle bit ginger if you hold them up to the light but I'm never thought of Fassy as being ginger.

SettlinginNicely · 31/10/2015 20:42

I love red hair. It looks great on either sex, and is particularly fetching on these cloudy islands against the grey skies. Just stunning really.

MakArbre · 31/10/2015 20:48

I bloody love ginger men and I dye my hair ginger. Alas, my children have white blonde hair, but maybe they will marry flame haired individuals and bless me with little ginger grand babies. I don't much fancy being a granny, ever, but I could make an exception for ginger grandchildren.

urterriblemuriel · 31/10/2015 20:57

They are idiots - I found the maternity waiting room full of 'interesting' characters. Red head men can be hot - Damian Lewis, Prince Harry, that long jumper chap.

merrymouse · 31/10/2015 21:13

I think fassbender may have had his hair coloured in some photos (being an actor and everything).

Clearly the only way to settle this is to actually meet him.

Lovemytent · 31/10/2015 21:14

Don't forget the gorgeous one from Greys Anatomy - Kevin McKidd. He may have already been mentioned - but yummy !
Plus, my own gorgeous hubby who always says that being Ginger taught him how to take a punch, made him tough etc. he says this only half tongue in cheek, sadly.
Growing up as a ginger lad in the 80's in inner city Birmingham wasn't a barrel of laughs for him by all accounts.

Lovemytent · 31/10/2015 21:16

Ooops, posted too soon. However, he hasn't suffered any twats in many years now due to going bald - still sexy though with his ginger beard - which strangely the idiot people seem to find more acceptable than ginger hair.

Was just going to say what CactusAnnie said - lots of blondes and gingers as well as brunettes in this Jewish family.

mathanxiety · 31/10/2015 22:49

The big red blob in Russia is the Udmurt peoples' homeland in the Volga Basin. They are not Jewish. A high proportion of Udmurt people have red hair.

The babushkas who came second in the Eurovision a few years ago were from this region iirc.

mathanxiety · 31/10/2015 22:51

'Celtic' is a term that actually has no meaning or relevance. It took off in the Victorian period when the idea of non-indistrialised, pristine wildness captured the imagination of the chatting classes.

steppemum · 31/10/2015 23:05

We used to live in Kazakhstan. There ds was adored, called the golden child, and my little sunshine etc.

He was called a True Kazkah. There is a legend that the real original Kazakhs were red haired and green eyed.
There is some historical evidence that there was a group of Norwegians who migrated to Central Asia, xxx hundred years ago and they may be the origins of the legend.
Kazkahs are normally dark skinned and black haired, but you do get the occasional child born who is fair with red hair and green eyes, and they are considered to be the most beautiful children of all.

originalmavis · 31/10/2015 23:41

Ooh, I have double whammy then (red hair and green eyes).

Purplefrogshoes · 31/10/2015 23:54

I have a red haired 5 month old ds and he is the most gorgeous baby ever Halloween Grin
