We have an open fire. I'd made a nice fire up out of wood and logs. DH put another log on the fire as I was putting DS to bed.

I came down, stoked up the fire a bit and there was a lightbulb in the fire. Yes. A glass lightbulb. I shouted at DH a bit, ie wtaf you ss this could explode in my face blah blah - but he categorically denied putting the lightbulb in the fire. I know he's been working hard lately but surely no one would be that stupid? He thinks it fell down the chimney (we have jackdaws who often send us little presents of walnuts and bits of dried bread) - but if it had fallen down the chimney then it would have smashed to smithereens.

Our house is over 200 years old. I've never noticed anything woo before. But this is odd.

What the hell happened tonight?

Ynbu. I love the woo threads. And you can never have enough of them IMO. Especially at this time of year.
Place marking.

WorraLiberty · 26/10/2015 23:19

What does the age of your house have to do with it?

It's weird that there was a light bulb in the fire (obviously)

But it's even weirder if your first thought is that a dead person put it there (I assume that's what you mean by 'woo'?)

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 26/10/2015 23:20

Reguarding the light bulb in the fire. Thank goodness you were okay though. It must have shocked and terrified the living day lights out of you

katemiddletonsothermum · 26/10/2015 23:21

I know, Worra - I didn't put it in. My DH didn't put it in. DCs didn't put it in. A dead person didn't put it in. I swept out the fireplace this afternoon so I know there wasn't anything untoward in the grate.

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 26/10/2015 23:25

Right, but someone obviously put it in or it was somehow caught up in the wood and logs.

Valdeeves · 26/10/2015 23:28

I gave always wondered - what does Woo stand for??

katemiddletonsothermum · 26/10/2015 23:31

I was just cross ilivininalighthouseitheaghost - DH does some stupid things, ie unload a dirty dishwasher, drive around town for half an hour looking for a petrol station with no queue because he doesn't like queueing for petrol.

worra how can a lightbulb attach itself to log?

OP posts:
katemiddletonsothermum · 26/10/2015 23:37

Here's the offending lightbulb....

We had an oooold tree that had to come down and as we were chopping it we found all sorts - 2 iron stakes it had grown over, a nearly closed hole with a skeleton and a bracelet in it and lots of old nests (no longer used) from Magpies that had everything in from bits of foil to pennies and shoelaces and odd bits of detritus wrapped around the branches.
So I vote it was the tree wot done it.
Tree ghost, as vengeance.
Definitely.

katemiddletonsothermum · 26/10/2015 23:47

A skeleton??? What of? Shergar?

OP posts:
BreconBeBuggered · 26/10/2015 23:51

I saw the thread title in 'Trending' (ack) and thought it was going to be a WOOD thread. Which it kind of turned out to be. I blame the tree, too.

hairbrushbedhair · 26/10/2015 23:54

I love woo

But going on the tangent that woo could be theoretically to blame, what's the point/symbolism of a light bulb on your fire?

What message is the universe or some other force sending you?!

WorraLiberty · 26/10/2015 23:56

worra how can a lightbulb attach itself to log?

Well it can't obviously.

Therefore it was probably scooped up with the wood and logs that you mentioned in your OP.

At the end of the day, we could go on for hours...me with rational explanations and you with a counteraction.

If you're determined to think of it as 'woo' then that's your choice Grin Wine

ophiotaurus · 26/10/2015 23:57

I thought the woo didn't stand for anything? It's more like a wooooo ghost noise (in my head anyway...).

BartholinsSister · 27/10/2015 00:01

The light bulb has eyes too!

katemiddletonsothermum · 27/10/2015 00:04

Well, if this is an example of my "lightbulb" moment then I'm sorely disappointed hairbrush

worra - DH picked up one log. But we emptied out the log basked the other day and he filled it up with logs from the log store over the weekend. When I say "log store", I actually mean a load of wood shoved under a makepiece tiled roof. So a stray lightbulb finding its way into the fireplace is very random.

Bet you're a barrel of fun at Halloween worra Grin

katemiddletonsothermum · 27/10/2015 00:06

Argh, look at those evil blue alien eyes....

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 27/10/2015 00:24

I absolutely love Halloween Quorn Grin

But that's because sensible people, just go all out for fun. There's no 'Oooh it must be woo and I won't listen to a single shred of common sense, so there!' Grin

Shit happens, sometimes it's weird but there's always a rational and boring explanation.

Mmmmcake123 · 27/10/2015 01:07

Surely quorn couldn't possibly make you fart???? Do you add loads of extra veg or something, cos that's just not right!!! Maybe an excess of spices??? Can't believe it! Woooooooo

Muddlewitch · 27/10/2015 01:11

That's a weird lightbulb Hmm

Do you have any pets?

BernardlookImaprostituterobotf · 27/10/2015 01:21

No resolution to the infamous mystery sadly, just a squirrel. I know this is a woo thread but I would have given an unexpected tree corpse a bit more of a lead in!

goddessofsmallthings · 27/10/2015 05:15

'Tis the season... perhaps we should share ghost stories?

There's been a lot of inexplicable goings on in my old house and there's an abundance of spirits (stocking up for December's revelries) but, no matter how much porridge and honey I leave out for them, the only brownies are of the chocolate variety.

TheHouseOnTheLane · 27/10/2015 07:13

Bernard you can't say "we found a skeleton" and not offer details!!

steppedonlego · 27/10/2015 07:20

Love a good woo thread!
