To want unauthorised children's leave spaces to go to the next place in the queue?

If you value your children's education so lowly, I assume you don't mind their space being taken?

OP posts:

Well I got fined for taking my kids on holiday, they couldn't offer their place to the next in queue as there was a glut of places, so by your reckoning if the school had kicked out everyone who had unauthorised absences they would have to sack teachers due to lack of pupils.

saucony · 20/10/2015 21:57

Let's penalise the child who has ZERO choice in parental holidays. Hmm

angelos02 · 20/10/2015 21:58

pico2 stating the obvious

OP posts:
Hoppinggreen · 20/10/2015 21:58

We almost had to spend 8 weeks abroad ( didn't happen as it turned out) but I was warned by The Head that despite keeping the school fully informed DD couid lose her school place so perhaps it does happen.
The LA actually said this wasn't necessarily the case if I couid demonstrate we were coming home - Such as return flights .

Odd post though, especially from someone with no children.

Heats butter for the popcorn......

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 20/10/2015 21:59

Are you drunk?

You sound drunk.

Ridiculous idea. Unauthorised absences are rarely the child's fault, you can't take their school place away.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 20/10/2015 22:01

A child's education doesn't just take place in school though.

I can see both sides; my kids coasted through primary school. We took them to Europe for three weeks every may/June, (a week either side of spring break) with no ill effects whatsoever.

BUT my best mate is a teacher and totally fed up of slack parents taking their already struggling kids out, who then fall further behind.

On the basis that it's unfair to say, "Well only the bright ones can have time off," I suspect the only answer is to discourage it.

Is the op being fined for each word typed or something?

Never seen anything so vague. Or pointless.

Has anyone got any custard donuts?

nancy75 · 20/10/2015 22:06

Custard donuts? Now that is worth a debate. Jam or nothing in my book, custard indeed tut tut

Only1scoop · 20/10/2015 22:08

Biting into one is like squeezing a spotSad

nancy75 · 20/10/2015 22:09

I had a Nutella donut the other day. The idea was nicer than the reality

mappemonde · 20/10/2015 22:11

Where are you Maryz - sounds nice Grin

coffeeisnectar · 20/10/2015 22:12

Omg! That's put me right off custard donuts now. Urgh!

I had a jaffa cake donut from greggs once. That was lush.

Jaffa cake donut sounds fab!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/10/2015 22:16

Literally did get one with nothing the other day. It was an outrage.

Wasn't quite outraged enough to take it back and complain about the complete absence of any jam.

saucony · 20/10/2015 22:16

I'm eating mini poppadoms dipped in mango chutney. Yum!

nancy75 · 20/10/2015 22:18

Rafa, call the daily mail, you could do a missing jam sad face story

Shakey15000 · 20/10/2015 22:24

Jam all the way donut wise.

And OP YABU.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 20/10/2015 22:24

Missed a trick there didn't I? Will have to practice my sad face for next time.

Booyaka · 20/10/2015 22:24

She's talking about this case:

www.itv.com/news/meridian/2015-10-19/man-wins-court-fight-over-120-fine-for-taking-daughter-on-holiday-in-term-time/

A guy who took his child on holiday to Disneyland in term time and has two other children in private education.

It was in April. She was six at the time. The stepson was 5/6 and his other daughter 9/10 are in private education. He might not even be funding the stepson's education.

I don't know why the OP is banging on about school places, the child is a long way off that. Unless she means she wants the child kicked out?

Booyaka · 20/10/2015 22:26

And this child had a 100% attendance record when it was requested.

What's wrong with custard donuts? Except the spot thing.

I like jam and custard and chocolate. But custard the most.
