Reading the threads here there is much criticism about conservative policy .
A lot of people must have voted for them .
Where are they on mums net ?
And on threads such as those re the w t c cuts are they not representing their views as it was clear this would happen ?
I can tell that they may be slated but surley differing views can be expressed so long as it doesn't get nasty - a know that feeling run high but surley ppl can do so .
So to Tory voters -is it how you anticipated .what are your views ?

OP posts:

But you are generalising to shut down people's opposing views before they even say them?

Wheretheresawill1 · 19/10/2015 15:56

Can we also just ignore the fact I have a Muslim boyfriend and I'm a Tory as well

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/10/2015 15:57

That sentence doesn't even make sense?

tabulahrasa · 19/10/2015 16:02

"I do admire those single parents on low paid jobs and would have been supportive of helping them more but again if they worked full time"

They'd be taking home £12,564 without tax credits...assuming you're using 40 hours as full time?

seagreengirl · 19/10/2015 16:03

If the opposing views are that Tory voters are scum and c**nts then I am glad that they are being shut down for once. And posts that are pointing out that political threads usually end in insults by Labour supporters really isn't goading.

the self-righteous tub-thumping preaches to the converted and just irritates everyone else.

I am an immigrant to this country and newly British. My vote is up for grabs. In my home country I always voted progressive. I find myself much less attracted here.

Nice chart. I love visuals. Where did you get it from? Is "political compass" the name of the organisation that made it? How did they decide where to place the parties? Was it just gut feel or did they have some representative metrics?

HeighHoghItsBacktoWorkIGo · 19/10/2015 16:12

An economic strategy dependent on continual growth is doomed to fail...physics/maths/common sense says so.

I actually don't think this is true. We can "grow" in ways that don't consume more physical resources. Services and creative industries are part of growth. Growth is the way we all have a better standard of living. The trick is to share the proceeds of growth and not let all the profit go to a small set of people who happen to be well placed.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/10/2015 16:30

Why is it OK to call people "self righteous "and "virtue signalling" but not OK to call others "smug" or "selfish". Seems a bit hypocritical.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 19/10/2015 16:31

Oh plus re growth there is the argument that austerity stifles growth.

I don't know one person who voted Tory from a position of real knowledge. This includes my parents and other family members. When I asked why they did, none of them really knew, just constant quotes about feckless poor, not working to pay other people's benefits and how Labour had got us into this mess and now we needed the Tories to get us out. Not one political opinion more elevated than anything printed in the Daily Mail.

I'm not trying to be incendiary and posters on here definitely seem to be better informed but on the whole I think most Tory voters, certainly the ones I know were just happy to be spoon fed hateful shit about poor people and immigrants and voted on that basis.

Fwiw my Mum (a life long Tory voter) is devastated at how this Tory administration have u-turned and "that f*cking liar!" is how DC is most commonly known these days. My other family member still spouts the rhetoric and just sounds so stupid and unaware that it's pointless engaging with her.

Bodicea · 19/10/2015 16:40

Another tory voter here - in my thirties and live in the north west. I also work for the NHS. I don't agree with all their NHS policies but then I thought labour made a hash of the NHS too. Working under them I saw a scandalous amount of waste as well a ridiculous number of bloated management type jobs.

I also voted for them because I thought they were the best thing for the country overall, especially regarding the economy. I do think I would have possibly preferred another co-coalition with the lib-dems to soften some of their harsher policies but you can't have everything. I knew I would probably end up slightly worse off in terms of my pay packet by voting for them but there you go.

I find the level of vitriol from the left shocking on a lot of these threads and am not surprised tory voters generally keep quiet.

MissMarpleCat · 19/10/2015 16:45

Nicki I agree, a friend of mine voted conservative and when I asked if she had read a manifesto, knew what their policies were etc she said no, she just thought she should vote for them.
Of course she is very angry and upset as she now realises she is set to lose approx £2,000 TC and she's a lone parent. Go figure Confused

mollie123 · 19/10/2015 16:46

so you know lots of Tory voters then who are thick (you did say 'most') Angry
Many (not most) labour/snp/libdem voters vote without having real knowledge.

I don't think I used the word "thick" did I?

This is my experience. I know it's not very palatable but there we are. And I did say that posters on here seem more informed Smile

ExitPursuedByABear · 19/10/2015 16:51

More sweeping generalisations about thick Tories.

Do Tories have the monopoly on stupid?

Bigbiscuits · 19/10/2015 16:52

It's the implication that all the labour voters are well read and informed.

It just the Tory ones who are happy to be spoonfed shit.

And the wonder why Tories don't bother posting on political threads in MN.

NickiFury · 19/10/2015 16:56

I don't think ALL Tory Voters are thick, in fact I must reiterate again that I did not use that word, another poster did and that I said the ones on here seem to be a lot better informed than the ones I come across in RL. it makes for interesting reading.

Bigbiscuits · 19/10/2015 16:59

And I don't think ALL Labour voters are think.

Bigbiscuits · 19/10/2015 16:59

Think = thick

Grazia1984 · 19/10/2015 17:01

I think my views are on most Tory bashing threads. We Tory supporters are alive and kicking and dealing with the left's misrepresentation of facts every day on Mumsnet. Yes we are delighted with teh Tories.
Look at the work Osborne has done in China? It is things like that that benefit families as the beright people of the UK realised when they voted Tory. If we can ensure full time workers are not supporting part time tax credit people and those who have more children than we can support so much the better.

Corbyn's election probably means 10 years of Tory rule so we will have a really good chance to get Britain back on track and ensure the welfare state is preserved - something the left would not have achieved.

Well done Cameron.

However we need much lower taxes and a much smaller state so they have a very long way to go. They are far too wet for me.

NickiFury · 19/10/2015 17:03

I didn't say you did Big Smile

MissMarpleCat · 19/10/2015 17:07

It is interesting that many conservative voters on mn make the assumption that if a poster has different opinions to them they are labour/left wing. That is not always the case at all.
