To spend a lot of money on clothes etc

I'm a fashion blogger/writer, every week I can spend up to and sometimes over £600 on clothes. Often I get sent free stuff but I like buying this. But now my partner is saying I'm disgusting for spending so much and should invest that money into my family. Who is in the wrong :(

I think it's an incredible waste and you have a problem with your spending habit.

73dexter · 18/10/2015 21:54

People reading the blog will be aware of how much the op is spending every week as there will be links to the items she has bought.

Discopanda · 18/10/2015 22:02

OP, this blog post might be useful for you www.jasminetalksbeauty.com/2015/10/blogging-on-budget-tips-post-ideas.html

If this is for real then credit to the original poster but something seriously doesn't add up here. Firstly, for a writer, your sentence composition and use of the English language leaves something to be desired. Is it a personal blog? In which case, I doubt advertising on your blog would bring in this income. Similarly, if you are selling on your blog to make this income, you would have to be putting some of your income, on top of your £400-600 clothing allowance, into buying in stock to sell or making clothes to sell, which would then further take down the amount of money spent on your family / life. This isn't adding up for me but I am prepared to be corrected.

£600 a week!! That would buy me clothes for an entire year and would last several years, well some of it would!

thefutureofpolitics · 18/10/2015 22:24

And similarly, I love clothes but having probably never grown out of the indie kid aesthetic, I wouldn't even spend £600 a year on clothes!

lemonade30 · 18/10/2015 22:25

Unreasonable? No.

Boring? Oh just a tad.

KKCupCake · 18/10/2015 22:27

Um, I would say if you're asking the question you have your answer?

lorelei9 · 18/10/2015 22:57

73, you're confusing me
Firstly, I meant the OP has pulblicised a row with a partner on here, so that's a personal thing.

Secondly, people who write blogs for fashion, beauty, tech, books etc are by no means buying that stuff all for themselves. Anyone with a successful blog will get sent a ton of stuff for free.

I don't believe the OP is making that money from a fashion blog, if that were the case and her blog was that successful she would be getting more free stuff so the firms could get free editorials.

You can't claim clothes as a business expense if you wear them personally. Well you can if they are branded t shirts etc. The rules are quite strict on this- lots of test cases.

Do you spend £600 on a single item? 2 wardrobes and a set of drawers isn't many clothes for someone spending that much a week which implies quality over quantity but then Kurt Geiger shoes are really poor quality- often plastic with plastic lining and synthetic soles. There is a reason they go to 70% off in the sale- I expect they still make a profit. Fur coat and no knickers shoes but great marketing.

If you need clothes for your blog why don't you buy them, photograph them and return them unworn?

Do you buy quality clothes that last and you will be able to sell even after wearing or do you have a wardrobe full of cheap disposable clothing. Can you sell any older clothes and use that money to buy more?

I spend a fair amount on clothes- I need decent clothes for my job and well... I like clothes. I don't think it is fair to criticise the OP for her spending without knowing the full picture. Some people spend more money on food or going out or cars etc. Some have large houses, other smaller. We all spend our money in different ways- 1 way isn't better than other-just different.

'As I have no idea who she is then I wouldn't know she has a personal issue going on!@

73dexter

The personal issue is that she thinks she may have a problem regarding her shopping, and it's caused friction with her partner.
Also, as mentioned by me, and others, she's posted elsewhere about her unhappiness

Op - can't you keep the labels on, wear once and then take back for a refund?

Shock

I really hope you aren't serious.

StarlingMurmuration · 19/10/2015 20:06

I spend about that every six months or so, to update my summer and winter wardrobes. A bit more on new shoes too. I don't really love clothes shopping.

I think it's fine to spend that much if you're loaded but it doesn't sound like you are.
