To not want to buy school uniform from a paedophile

Ds started reception this year, and I bought his uniform in the summer. Shortly after, I read in the local news that the owner is a paedophile. He has admitted a series of offences and is awaiting sentencing.

He still lives above the shop. The conditions of his bail include not employing staff under the age of 18 and not being around children without their parents present amongst other things.

I now need extra uniform. I don't want to go near the shop, I don't want to give them my money. I feel sick that my child was trying on clothes in their changing room while he was there. No other shop sells it. Aibu? And wwyd?

Interesting. We had the same situation in our town a few years ago. However we had other options for buying uniform. Is there nowhere at all that sells them? Contact the school and ask to be sure. You could also post on FB asking if anyone is selling the size you need. And try charity shops.

I would contact the school.

I would go in myself, buy various sizes and take them go to DS to try on. I'd then return what wasn't needed myself.

I would go and get a generic uniform from tesco or asda. If the school questions it, tell them exactly why.

Maybe chat to the school about it. They may not know about the shop owner and they might also be able to suggest an online retailer / supply it themselves.

I don't want to spend my money there. I feel the same way about the rude cafe owner who wouldn't let my 2 year old use the toilet.

Similar happened in our town. It was an employee though and not the owners, but the shop has shut down and another shop now supplies the uniform.

Good idea about just buying the same colours, I'll do that and speak to the school.

I know a retailer in town who abused his wife for years. It doesnt affect me or her if i spend money in his shop but i dont want to! I do not want to improve his life in any way, spending money in his shop would provide him with a profit. So i dont do it. Same as i wouldnt fund someone i knew to be a drug dealer or money launderer or terrorist. It doesnt matter that OPs child isnt affected by her spending money there. It is the principle.

I'd be very uncomfortable with this too. Would people continue to use a soft play owned by a child abuser, or a child-friendly coffee shop, even if the pervert owner were not on site? I wouldn't. I'd be speaking to the school about this. They need to find an alternative supplier. They can order any logoed stuff direct from manufacturers and sell it themselves like many schools do.

I'm pleased to say I never came across a situation like this in all the years I was buying school uniform.

You are free to spend your money, or not spend it, where ever you like. Go somewhere else.

Unless you all love near to each other there seems to be quite a few of them. I suppose paedophile are attracted to this sort of job :(

Considering he probably used his business as a ruse to be around half clothed infants I wouldn't be going in there either.

He probably has covert cameras set up in the changing room. No way would I take my kids in there.

Just buy generic uniform from other shops and tell the school what's going on. Get the other parents on board too.

I am a little surprised he is allowed to continue in this line of business given the conviction. And that he continues to live over the shop following the newspaper article.

Actually he might not be the owner but it's a family business and he still lives/works there. Either way, I'm not comfortable with it at all. I don't think he should be anywhere near children getting undressed.

surely given his convictions, the changing rooms woud have been checked out for cameras etc during the investigation? If there was anything that directly involved his business activities, this would have been all over the media, & the shop would have been closed down if only for fear of vigilantees?

I don't see how he's still trading tbh? Surely every parent at every school in the nearby area should be complaining to every school and stripping him of the rights to sell school uniforms? Or is that BU?
