Too fat to work..

Huntersmum15 · 18/10/2015 10:56

Slightly controversial for a Sunday morning I know.. But am I the only person who is angered by people who are too fat to work and claiming disability.. Being fat is a choice (I am aware there are many medical conditions that influence a persons weight and obviously this is not a choice) but it angers people that these people are such a drain on the NHS and cost thousands in obesity related illnesses and then claim benefits aswell?

Considering that tax credits are being cut and (according to reports) many children will live in poverty, is it not only just that obesity related disability benefits also be cut too?

AIBU?

But hey, it makes you feel better about yourself so mission accomplished for you.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 18/10/2015 17:35

Gosh, Cactus, you and the OP are just delights aren't you?

You haven't posted 'quite a lot' of stats. You've posted two stories from the Mirror and the Telegraph, bot well know for their balanced, well measured, truthful reporting.

But don't let me stop you both having a go at people.

Greebosmum · 18/10/2015 17:36

Aaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhh, not everyone with type 2 diabetes is diabetic because they are overweight.

For one thing, in order to become diabetic due to obesity you need to have the tendency to be diabetic anyway.

There have always been type 2 diabetics, before obesity became an 'epidemic'.

My husband is not now, and never has been overweight. He has type 2 diabetes. Get over it.

Huntersmum15 · 18/10/2015 17:36

Expatinscotland read what I wrote. My stepfather is obese. 25 stone I might add, do I bash him for being over weight?! No.

Do I have anything against overweight people? No.

Do I have something against people who over eat, don't exercise, gain weight, don't work and claim disability for it and continue to eat bad and continue the vicious cycle? Yes.

Funny how when concern for the NHS is brought up by goady fuckers the same goady fuckers never mention poor housing and how that affects the NHS

AloraRyger · 18/10/2015 17:42

This sort of shitty thread used to send me into bingeing mode because it made me feel so bad about being such a gross, disgusting, nhs-damaging whale. Fat shaming does that to lots of us. We know we're enormous and gross. We wear our issues every single day. But fat shaming and faux concern doesn't help.

Don't let the gym door hit you in the empathy bypass, Cactus!

LookAtAllThesePhucksIGive · 18/10/2015 17:48

Why have something against them? Can't you feel compassion for what is surely a miserable existence? You have your health, family, career, a roof over your head... Why waste energy on people living how they live? I never see these vitriolic threads about alcoholics, drug addicts etc. Is it because their problems can be hidden and not hurt your eyes? I never see programmes called Too Pissed To Work or To High To Get By. Nope. But fatties. Big fat greedy fatties. Taking up a bit more room than a skag head fatties. Well, they're everywhere. Hmm

Belsen?

Some people need an extensive shake.

There were no active heroin addicts or alcoholics in the concentration camps either. What have we proved with these pointless and offensive comparisons?

Who are you talking to in that weird way? I'm right here, you can address me directly.

As you've accused me of mudslinging, I enjoy the irony of that on a thread which is directly attacking a group of people who are classed as medically unfit to work.

Nice.

Topseyt · 18/10/2015 17:53

OP, of course you are targeting fat/obese people.

What the hell else does the thread title "too fat to work" imply?

LookAtAllThesePhucksIGive · 18/10/2015 17:54

Alora, it's everywhere now. Just read the comments section anytime Buzzfeed dares to publish pictures of plus size outfits, models etc. The comments always pretend to be concerned about health and saying they're glorifying obesity. Fat is the one taboo everyone can pick on. Fat people aren't allowed to feel good about themselves.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 18/10/2015 17:54

Repeatedly? I asked for stats once, actually.

And yes, I feel that posting a link to a story in the Mirror is bad research at best. Why would I search for evidence of something I didn't claim to begin with?

You're hardly covering yourself in glory here, determined, as you are, to prove the OP's offensive point.

Btw, I'm not the only one who disagrees with the OP but do continue to argue with me and make yourself look like even worse. You're doing a stellar job.

CactusAnnie
Oh and miaowroar saying that the experiences of people who are overweight are comparable with people who were put in Nazi death camps. because they too are "going through their own personal hell" that's really pretty offensive.

I was in fact saying the opposite to this.

Lemonfizzypop · 18/10/2015 17:59

Do I have something against people who over eat, don't exercise, gain weight, don't work and claim disability for it and continue to eat bad and continue the vicious cycle? Yes. **

Why do you think they do that? Are you really thick enough to not realise that is probably tied up with mental health etc?

Lookatallthephucks I did state my real father is an alcoholic... Maybe I should ask MN to change the name of my thread to - Too drink, too fat and too high to work.. Hmm

Alcoholics on DLA spending their money on more alcohol - the vicious cycle. The government should invest money into fixing the problem rather then enabling it.

OP posts:
LilacSpunkMonkey · 18/10/2015 18:04

I said 'repeatedly' because you said I'd asked repeatedly for stats, when in fact I'd asked once, so don't know what your 'and?' is a all about.

When someone makes a claim, it's then down to them to provide evidence to prove it, hence me asking for stats and not doing the work for the OP.

I'm in the process of reading through the reports so you'll have to bear with me on that point.

Topseyt - error on my part using the word FAT. again we are a nation that tip toes around subjects and fears using the wrong terminology. Can MN change this to - too overweight to work?

However thread title can be used in relation to the programme too fat to work...
