Try Uniqluo for the opposite end of the disappointing sizing scale. I'm sending back a coat I ordered because you could house a family of four in it. It's a size small Confused.

myotherusernameisbetter · 16/10/2015 09:26

there is very little for boys beyond 12 and before they hit small adult sizes

We had the opposite problem, having really tall children, they outgrew age 12 stuff at age 9 and then you have to buy adult clothes for size but they don't really fit properly as a child is a different shape to an adult - they outgrew age 16 Next by 12/13 and now at 15 and 14 take generally adult Medium to Large but because they are changing shape, it does fit better. I think I cried tears of joy when they started to be the right shape for men's W/L sized trousers rather than trying to work out what child size might be adapted to fit.

Lurkedforever1 · 16/10/2015 10:24

Yy myother. Dd has never really had teen size clothes. She's always needed a good few years younger for width, and a few years older for length. When you throw in teen girls clothes being more generous round the hips than under 10 sizes, they've never fitted.
I was delighted when she got to the point a small 4 was at least not stupidly tent like. And with a decent belt or added elastic, right length skirts and trousers were available. Although not impressed that it meant paying adult price for a 10yr old. Now we're back to being screwed again at nearly 12. No change in body shape, so still room in a size 4, but the standard 32" long length is too short. In sports wear I do find the teen lads sizes are less generous for the length though, and the drawstring/ elastic waists make them vaguely wearable. Finding age appropriate party wear, or nice trousers or skirts is another thing. Once she fills out to a genuine 4, and in older teens probably to a small 6 it won't become that much easier either as the height will go up again, and genuine size 6's aren't exactly abundant.

teacherwith2kids · 16/10/2015 10:25

myother - it's even more fun when your child is adult height (6 foot and growing by the day) but child width! If you find anywhere with 26" or less waist, 33-34" leg, please let me know!

Lurkedforever1 · 16/10/2015 10:37

teacher if it's your dd try and find outlets selling catwalk seconds/ high end fashion. Tkmaxx has some, occasionally, but you sometimes get other outlets depending on area. Not sure if the same applies to boys/ men stuff though.

Charity shops are worth a look too, if you find something that's been in someone's wardrobe unworn for ages, in female sizes anyway they tend to be smaller than the label suggests.

myotherusernameisbetter · 16/10/2015 10:57

teacher - DS1 (15) is just under 6'2 and technically has a 35inch inside leg he is a 32/34 waist though so we haven't been too bad - he just needs to make sure he sticks to black socks with his school trousers and he has one pair of jeans that are fine - otherwise he lives in jersey shorts :)

Ds2 (14) is going through a chunkier phase (he is just under 6' but due a spurt) and is a 34/36 waist and 34 leg so is pretty easy peasy for now. I think they will both settle at 32/34 waist but are expected to be around 6'4 so I am keeping an eye out for 36 length trousers. he also lives in jersey shorts all year.

I think your best bet is to try to fatten him up! :o

Otherwise, I'd try Superdry for jeans - DS1 has a pair that are 30/36 but has outgrown after 1 wear (bought in the outlet). I'm hanging on to them for the moment in case he slims down at the next spurt.

Frostycake · 16/10/2015 11:14

Ha! So true.

This reminds me of my ex (nearly 50 years old) who used to insist on wearing a Superdry body warmer. He weighed a good 16 stone and at nearly 6 ft tall looked like a giant toddler. Absolutely ridiculous.

They are designed for teens but seem to be worn mostly by middle aged people.

teacherwith2kids · 16/10/2015 11:15

Myother and Lurked,

It's DS - DD is not quite as tall and has definite hips. Black leggings for her, with long black socks and over-the-ankle boots to cover the inevitable gap!

If my brothers and father are anything to go by, DS will fatten up in his late 20s / early 30s! He has the same body shape as my dad did on his wedding day in his late 20s, and you can see from the photos that pretty much all the young men were similarly built back then.

LillyBugg · 16/10/2015 11:18

The views of who wears them on here seem to be massively mixed! Maybe it's a location thing. I'm 27 and I have a super dry coat. It's the warmest coat I have ever owned and I love it. But I did need a L and I'm a 10!!!

myotherusernameisbetter · 16/10/2015 11:31

I took my two to a Gaming convention at the weekend - Both wearing Superdry t-shirts, DS2 with his SD hoody too - DS1 had diesel jeans on and DS2 had Lee (he has SD ones but managed to keep the lee ones clean so wore them both days).

It was quite weird really as they are not really the fashion victims and maybe SD is not as desirable as it once was in some areas, but they looked like they'd walked out a shop window compared to the majority of the other attendees :) They were mostly dressed in "novelty" t-shirts and joggy bottoms or dressed up as "characters". I don't generally see loads of young kids dressed in non-school uniform so I think things do vary in different areas and environments.

Most of the kids we saw outside in the shopping centre etc seemed to be dressed in Sportswear.

MorrisZapp · 16/10/2015 11:43

On '24 Hours in Police Custody' every single plain clothes police wore heavily branded Superdry. It looked funny :)

I'd happily pay the £££ for their gear but most of it wouldn't fit me. For some reason their zip up hoodies are quite normally sized, and I wear them to death.

Mostly, their women's department looks like a children's clothes shop.

SinglePringle · 16/10/2015 12:53

I have one brushed cotton shirt from there - I unstitched the logo from the pocket because it IS a teen brand!

I find their sizing pretty true to size - I'm a 12 in shop like Top Shop, River Island, Zara, Whistles, Reiss etc and the shirt is a comfortable 12 on me.

Isitchristmasyet4 · 16/10/2015 15:02

Caprinihahahaha
My Hmm face was fitting at how confused I am at people thinking its for kids, young adults yes? But not kids. My face wasn't snarky, don't presume we are all as grumpy as you Wink

Caprinihahahaha · 16/10/2015 15:21

Ah - I always see that little Roger Moore face as snarky.
Confused and lolling makes more sense. I'm like that after a bottle of wine.

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/10/2015 15:58

Obv not a jacket, but this is one of the dresses I have and I don't think it's naf at all, it fits me really well and is longer on me as I am short.

to think that superdry jackets are only for slim people
thecatsarecrazy · 16/10/2015 17:11

There's a creep in the town I work that has an asbo for following women who where's a superdry jacket. I can't get passed that.

nortonhouse · 16/10/2015 17:34

It's a brand for adolescents. My super-super-super-skinny 15YO daughter wears a M and it's a slim fit.

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/10/2015 18:49

I'd be honestly suprised if she's super, super, super skinny, unless she's tall or wants a baggy fit.
I'm short, and a 10, and wear a medium in Superdry.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 16/10/2015 18:55

I'm an 8 with 32DD boobs and I can wear an XS, or a S for a baggier fit, so she should be able to wear a S at least.

nortonhouse · 16/10/2015 19:02

She is 5 ft 10 inches and built like a twig!

dementedma · 16/10/2015 19:06

Overpriced and no good for chunky teens.

Lurkedforever1 · 16/10/2015 20:22

Tbf chunky teens do have the vast majority of places to pick from though, whether normal clothes or school uniform. It's really not a problem for the odd brand to fit slim or thin dc.

teacherwith2kids · 16/10/2015 21:05

Exactly. Until BhS extend their wonderful 'slim fit extra long' trouser sizing out of schoolwear, DS does need some clothes he can wear for the next 10-15 years!

dementedma · 16/10/2015 21:41

That's interesting lurked. All of mine have been chubby/fat in the early teen years. They grow out of it. DDS are a 12 and an 8 now respectively. I found almost all school uniform was for skinny or slim kids. Even now I have to buy Ds school trousers at a specialist uniform outfitter at £25 a pair, as opposed to skinny fit supermarket ones for less than a tenner. Men's trousers fit him round the middle but are miles too long in the leg.
