Superdry is a UK company that markets itself as a Japanese one.

It is a young persons store, their target market is 15-25.

IHaveBrilloHair · 15/10/2015 08:54

Their sizing is small but I like their clothes, I have some lovely dresses from there.

Only1scoop · 15/10/2015 08:57

Yes it's for young and very slim individuals of which I am neither.

SlaggyIsland · 15/10/2015 08:58

I was put off it as it seemed to be the brand of choice for middle-aged, slack-jawed yokels at car events.

HellKitty · 15/10/2015 08:58

I only see divorced dads in it.

Only1scoop · 15/10/2015 08:59

Think it looks a bit daft on over 30's personally.

It's considered a bit tastique around these parts.

Number3cometome · 15/10/2015 09:01

My DS is 12, very slim and wears a M in Superdry clothes.

When I was a size 10 and will be again goddamit I had a M in the windbreaker jacket and it is exceptionally snug over my boobs.

Their hoodies are fine, I have a medium and it fits fine now (size 12, massive breastfeeding milky boobs)

Lurkedforever1 · 15/10/2015 09:03

It's the market they're aimed at. Same as top shop comes up smaller than m&s. There are a hell of a lot more brands and shops that don't make small sizes, so I don't see the issue with a brand usually more popular with teens than adults actually making clothes to fit them. Does everywhere really need to make clothes in larger sizes, when the same isn't true at the other end?
I'm hoping super dry remains popular with teens here, Dds coat is one of the few she's had that is right length and width.

MaidOfStars · 15/10/2015 09:04

I have this coat (which I'd struggle to see as unsuitable on anyone of any age...). I have M and wear a size 10 in ither shops.

MrsMook · 15/10/2015 09:30

Do they do things not plastered in their logo? I don't appreciate paying to advertise, but the sizing sounds good. I'm fed up of falling under the scale of many shops.

00100001 · 15/10/2015 09:51

They have good clothes, but are definitely marketed to 15-25 year olds - they of the same ilk as Jack Wills/Holister.

MaidOfStars · 15/10/2015 09:56

MrsMook The coat picture I posted...There was a small (1cm x 3cm) red tag at the top of one of the arms, with the Superdry logo on it (I think you can see it in the picture). It was held on by two loops of stitiching, and I removed it. Also, around the flat edges on the buttons is a white printed Superdry slogan. That doesn't bother me though - you can only see it close up.

myotherusernameisbetter · 15/10/2015 10:09

The jackets are definitely snug-ly cut and it's more noticeable as they have no "give". the hoodys are fine as are t-shirts depending on which cut you get. I don't wear it but teen DSs do - not seen as naff round here. They have loads of the t-shirts mainly bought from the outlet as I find them really good quality and at £7 or £8 from the outlet, they weren't any more expensive than ones form the high street.

Very slim DS1 (age 15 and nearly 6'2) can get away with M or L. DS2 (14 and just about 6') is a bit broader so needs XL in t-shirts usually though he has some L that fit okay and they can both wear M or L hoodies and Jackets though DS2 does struggle to zip his L up now - tbf though neither of them regularly wears a jacket and if they do it's for DofE or Scouts or something similar and they have "proper" outdoor jackets for that.

myotherusernameisbetter · 15/10/2015 10:10

They do an "orange label" range which I think is their more budget end and they have much smaller branding.

myotherusernameisbetter · 15/10/2015 10:10

oh, and their Jeans are nice on too.

LittleLionMansMummy · 15/10/2015 10:10

Thanks God it's not just me op! I was so ooooh depressed when I went to buy a gillet last year. I'm a size 12-14. Opted for North Face instead....

RoboticSealpup · 15/10/2015 10:14

Of course they are small, their target demographic is college kids who hang around outside McDonald's.

SortedForCheeseAndFizz · 15/10/2015 10:24

Just got a SD zip top for dd. She's tall and slim but we had to get an xl size (she wanted it a looser fit). They do seem v small it's true.

Mind you we looked at Hollister first as they were worse. Very short in the body and not as well made as SD.

Being old and oblivious to brands though I really cant see what it is about any them that makes them so expensive. Or Jack Wills Confused. The Jack Wills tops look like someone bought a job lot of cheaply tops and ironed on JW letters into them.

myotherusernameisbetter · 15/10/2015 10:26

Judgy much? My teens wouldn't be seen dead hanging about outside McDonalds - and those kids seem to favour either sports wear or Armani etc.

I think Superdry is much more mainstream general clothing - it is where I live anyway.

Caprinihahahaha · 15/10/2015 10:51

"Isitchristmasyet4 Thu 15-Oct-15 08:05:33
Lol at the person who said its a kids brand. hmm
I agree it's very small fitting."

Your snarky face doesn't match your lolling.
If you are going to lol you really ought to Grin

It is aimed at kids. And the reason I post that is so that people like the op and LittleLionMansMummy don't get depressed when they have to buy considerably larger sizes than usual. It's perfect for very slender teenagers and pre-teens.
Of course adults can buy and wear it but you have to get bigger sizes and you should be sanguine about it being the brand not you.

southeastastra · 15/10/2015 20:51

it is, of course, perfectly acceptable for the middle class to wear visibly branded clothes such as 'barbour' Grin but superdry nah

00100001 · 15/10/2015 22:31

It is aimed at 15-25 year olds, not "kids"

ouryve · 15/10/2015 22:37

Even though I'm well outside the demographic and probably well outside the sizing, and I'm not keen on the big logos (on anything at all, including barbour, which is why I didn't even try a barbour jacket on in my recent hunt for a winter coat) I do like the general styling of Superdry stuff.

I should really have a look at it for DS1. He's approaching 12, well into puberty, slender (actually not dead skinny for a change) and leaving 5' a long way behind. We're down to a very small selection of kids clothes that fit him - he lives in Next joggers and tops from Landsend and Fatface, with the odd M&S thing thrown in. He's not fashion conscious, but likes a bit of variety, which we're not finding.

And teen boy sizing is getting harder to find. Next have slashed their range in larger sizes, this season. Not that it didn't severely deteriorate in quality over the past 5 years, anyhow.

Caprinihahahaha · 16/10/2015 08:55

Ouryve

That age group is hard isn't it - there is very little for boys beyond 12 and before they hit small adult sizes. DS2 is the same. Superdry small sizes are pretty good for that. You can get their stuff in TK Maxx sometimes much reduced and it does last and wash well.

teacherwith2kids · 16/10/2015 09:07

I will confess that both my children have Superdry coats (they were 11/13 when we bought them) BECAUSE of their slim fit. It is a battle every year to buy clothes for them, because they are by modern standards more slender than the norm (looking at photos of my brothers and my dad with their peers at the same ages, DS has exactly the same build, which was 'normal' then but is 'slim' now). Every other brand of coat had room for another child in, but Superdry fitted really well.

If their sizing goes the same way as everyone else's, then it will leave nothing for the long-and-thin ... please leave something for those of us who spend hours on online size comparison charts, working out which shops it is even worth going into for the particular waist / leg length combination needed for trousers to fit.
