To think there should be a law stopping cars from parking on public streets

Went on a long journey with DP today through quite a few villages with small winding roads the roads are supposed to be split into 2 one sides obviously but most of thses roads could only have 1 side of the road used because inconsiderate people in the houses had parked their cars in the road blocking the entire left side so cars had to take turns crossing around them on the right side i think you should only own a car if you have somewhere to park it off road like a driveway or garage its a health and safety risk with cars trying not to smash into each other winding around these parked cars and people trying to cross safely its like buying a horse and not having a stable to keep it in imo there should be some sort of law as well as yellow lines to stop this happening

Lots of houses built with no driveways. Where do you suggest they park?

Quite a few villagers park like that to stop the speed merchants who have no respect for anything or anyone else except for their need to get from A to B in the shortest possible time.

Try some punctuation. Yes, there are lots of cars on the road and parking is a problem but drivers have to park somewhere. I don't think suggesting that only people lucky enough to have driveways can own a car is the answer, but increasing investment in public transport and cycling facilities would probably help.

YABU - it's not a health and safety risk. It's pretty basic driving to be able to drive in one lane and take turns with oncoming traffic.

The problem with your idea that people need to have parking is that the planning department; the roads departments and the LA city/rural plans don't agree with you. Few developments allow for enough parking nowadays so the LA will count on-road parking as part of the provision. It's why there aren't yellow lines on certain roads, as it's accepted that they will be used for parking.

If you don't like being held up on your journey, don't drive through villages.

Frankly, if you can't navigate around legally parked cars, you should think about some extra driving training. If you feel it's not safe for cars to park on a certain street, tell the local council. If they agree, they'll restrict it.

If you can fit one car down safely though it's not a problem. The only problem you'll have is inconsiderate drivers who don't know how to wait their turn.

The problem in this country is the proportion of homes built before cars, or before cars were the norm. So - no space for cars. Lots of terraces, and lots of front doors opening straight to the street. What should people in these houses do, out of interest?

I'm assuming you live in a lovely bubble where everyone has shiny driveways to obsess over...

Where do you suggest people park? Especially as there are so many streets full of houses that were built before car ownership and don't have parking spaces?

Perhaps everyone should just sell their cars, so that you can drive around unimpeded.

Blimey, I thought I wasn't a very good driver... But I can drive down streets with parked cars on!! I live in London though, plenty of roads with parked cars on both sides so you have to zigzag your way through. 'Tis just normal life surely?

Yanbu. It would stop people who can't afford houses with driveways, or indeed two houses so they can raze one from owning cars. Thus they wouldn't be out and about in public mixing with the naice driveway owners. And it would teach them lazy disabled sods to think more carefully about becoming disabled if they couldn't park outside their homes.
Might be a bit shit for them and cause untold disruption and hardship, but that's better than adding 5 minutes travel time to your oh so important life.
