Bought s Xmas present last week and today it's gone on sale with £40 off it. Aibu to take it back and rebuy it at cheaper price? My friend thinks I'm being a cheapskate but £40 is a big chunk of my budget

I'd do it, why pay more?

WallToWallBastards · 09/10/2015 19:54

£40 is £40, go for it. Being a cheapskate is fun.

KittiKat · 09/10/2015 19:55

Not at all!! I would take it back and buy it again at the reduced price. £40 is an awful lot of money.

MinecraftWonder · 09/10/2015 19:55

YANBU, I would do it. I've bought something before then found it cheaper in another shop and returned it.

YouBastardSockBalls · 09/10/2015 19:55

If you take it back they'll likely refund you the sale price.

But if they don't, then yes why wouldn't you?

Justbatteringon · 09/10/2015 19:56

Do it. Do it. Do it.

Branleuse · 09/10/2015 19:56

if youve got the receipt and you only bought it last week, then go get a refund, definitely

hippoherostandinghere · 09/10/2015 19:56

Of course take it back. £40 is better in your pocket than theirs. I did this once in argos on a playbills school.

tictactoad · 09/10/2015 19:56

Is your friend willing to make up the difference?

I suspect not in which case she can butt out.

I'd do it although you may have to fight them to get the full refund now it's being offered at a reduced price.

hippoherostandinghere · 09/10/2015 19:56

Playmobil

PrimalLass · 09/10/2015 19:59

I've done it loads of times. Go for it.

Excitedforxmas · 09/10/2015 19:59

Oh thank you all. Will do it tomorrow!

Yes take it back, that would P me off big time.

VulcanWoman · 09/10/2015 20:06

Your friend probably hasn't got the balls or cheek to do it herself.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 09/10/2015 20:06

Definitely do it. Although make sure they have it in stock first. Sometimes there are funny rules about you not being able to buy the same thing for 24 hours.

19lottie82 · 09/10/2015 20:07

If you have the receipt showing what you paid for it then they have to refund you the full price. Well, if they refund you full stop, tho they prob will. I just mean they're not legally obliged to refund, but most places have a return for refund within X days policy.

RB68 · 09/10/2015 20:19

Yes do it - 40 quid is 40 quid

eedon · 09/10/2015 20:21

Hun be honest with them. They will usually just refund the difference.

sleeponeday · 09/10/2015 20:22

Absolute common sense. Why hand over £40 when you don't have to? I'd be chuffed at the unexpected little windfall, personally! Smile

chanie44 · 09/10/2015 20:26

I do it all the time. In fact, I keep the receipt off anything I buy for Xmas in case it gets reduced in the sales.

Why pay more when you don't have to.

Sleepyfergus · 09/10/2015 20:27

Definitely. I do this all the time. As long as the original is within the return timeframe then you're not doing anything wrong. I would buy the reduced item first before returning the original, just to ensure you get it!! And £40 is def better in your pocket than theirs.

Your fiend clearly has money to burn and needs to man up!

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 09/10/2015 20:29

Absolutely if you have the receipt.

Actually reminds me of last year when DH bought me a pair of boots from Crew about 2 days before Xmas for my present. Boxing Day or 27th sales and they were half price. I ordered a new reduced pair online to pick up from the store and he returned the originals.

It's so infuriating that DH and I have decided not to bother getting anything for each other (except a silly token gift to open on the day) for Xmas and go sale shopping in the post Xmas sales afterwards. Silly that's it's taken us so long to do this but I do think the slashing of prices minutes after Xmas has become ridiculous (but great for shoppers!)

nameinlights · 09/10/2015 20:33

Do it.
