I won't mention names but some of them seem to be popular for....not a lot really. Certain people come to mind who have a reputation for being straight talking and funny but most of the time I don't see it. I find them rather disagreeable tbh. Is it just me?

I think you're talking about only a very few prolific posters and yes, I think they're often rude and if it wasn't 'them' - other posters would object or comment but they don't when it's particular posters.

And the 'straight talking, don't mince words, shoot from the hip'' etc excuse is often used and it's as much of an excuse for being rude as it is in RL. All those 'don't suffer fools gladly, just being honest, you know what you're getting with me' bullshit excuses for being unpleasant.

However, I've been on here for years under numerous name changes and I think when you've been on a site for a long time and have seen endless recycling of issues or numerous similar threads... you lose some interest and/or patience with a lot of threads/views over time and you become a bit less sympathetic or more suspicious. Or you're more familiar with the stories that many posters tell and you can see patterns in e.g people expressing concern that their DP is having an affair and you think 'hmm, I've heard that excuse a hundred times on here, I'd say it's bollocks'.

I know I've definitely got a lot 'harder' over time on MN so that may well apply to the long - standing familiar posters who have kept the same NN forever.

HoneyDragon · 08/10/2015 20:15

Is that in case they say "how the fuck did you get back in?" usual?Grin

dontcallmelen · 08/10/2015 20:15

I don't feel as though popular/prolific posters equate to rudeness, I do sometimes feel exasperated by the nonsense that goes on, and the grammar police scare me, which deters me quite a lot from posting.
Sometimes it does feel a little like a 'closed shop' but I guess RL is like, that at times to, I am quite isolated and if I'm honest a bit lonely, due to having to give up my career because of health problems, mn does help alleviate that a little, keeps me entertained/informed/laugh/irritated in equal measures.

TiggyD · 08/10/2015 20:15

Maybe it's because the "popular" posters have been here for a while and have a tendency to cut to the chase with threads.

FattyNinjaOwl · 08/10/2015 20:16

Nice to see you out of the tree Grin

ghostyslovesheep · 08/10/2015 20:17

What on earth is AF beer? I started out on the conception threads and you really don't want to know what I just visualised Envy

HoneyDragon · 08/10/2015 20:23

I prefer my entrances to be more FlashHearty. Head butt the wall in, swig some whisky and punch my besties in the tit whilst shouting "woof".

ScrambledSmegs · 08/10/2015 20:23

dontcallmemelen, you sound pretty down at the moment. Would you like a cyberspace cuddle?

Saw this thread title earlier and thought it will either turn into a bun fight or a love in...

Things don't change much on Mumsnet.

Sparklingbrook · 08/10/2015 20:33

Bit of both I think Cain Grin

Reality · 08/10/2015 20:33

What the cunting fuck is all this about, then?

Hullygully · 08/10/2015 20:36

REALITY! Aw, hey there, dear heart

ScrambledSmegs · 08/10/2015 20:37

Ah, alcohol free? Thank goodness. You off da booze? Respect. Apart from on really bad days I don't drink at all either. Today I had a teaspoon of gin in a vat of tonic at about 7pm and felt like I might throw off all of my clothes and run naked through the onion patch.

The feeling passed.
