To wince at the C word on MN

I am certainly no prude and have not lived a sheltered life…. But I am amazed at the use of the c-word on here. I just don't get the apparent acceptance to use a reference to female genitalia as an insult. Do people use that word in RL or is it just here?

Badtime Grin

squoosh · 07/10/2015 12:20

I like the word 'cunt', there's definitely a time and a place to use it. I find people that are happy to use 'fuck' and other swear words but feign horror at 'cunt' to be a bit ridiculous.

squoosh · 07/10/2015 12:25

As my mother , a teacher, always said swearing is a sign of a very limited vocabularly.

People who don't approve of swearing are awfully fond of this cliché.

jorahmormont · 07/10/2015 12:39

My vocabulary is fucking epic Grin

Is it a sign of low class? Maybe. I'm so working class it hurts and swear like a good'un.
Is it a sign of poor education? No. I've got a first class degree, still swear. Most of my lecturers swore a lot. Everyone else on the degree swore. Some of the sweariest people I know are the ones with the highest levels of education.

People who don't swear think they're so superior when actually they just sound like sanctimonious cunts.

badtime · 07/10/2015 12:40

Anyway, it is the people who don't swear who (by definition) have a limited vocabulary - it's missing all the lovely fucking swears.

badtime · 07/10/2015 12:47

... and before anyone gets arsey, I am not saying that people who don't swear have small vocabularies, merely that they are limited by the avoidance of profanity.

MrsP777x · 07/10/2015 12:59

Swearing shows passion on a subject if you ask me. I swear more knowing if offends someone. Coz I'm a cunt like that.

pinkfrocks · 07/10/2015 12:59

badtime you are so funny. You clearly can't spot irony or sarcasm. Bless.

badtime · 07/10/2015 13:04

Is that the best you've got?

Where was the irony or sarcasm? Was it when you were trying to shut me down by implying you were highly qualified for ... something, or when you were criticising someone else for mentioning their education?

Or (and this is the only bit I can see which could possibly be irony or sarcasm), was it at 12:59:13 when you said you had been ironic or sarcastic in your earlier posts? Meta!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 07/10/2015 13:12

"I accept some men call other men by names for male genitalia too."

Really? only some men? you do live in a nice pink bubble, don't you Grazia!

DrDreReturns · 07/10/2015 13:25

I've got an extensive vocabulary but I also swear a lot. Swearing is not a sign of a limited vocabulary! I've just read some Stephen King stories, they had lots of swearing in them. I somehow doubt he has a limited vocabulary.

squoosh · 07/10/2015 13:29

Brendan Behan was awfully fond of a bit of a swear from time to time. I wouldn't say his vocabulary was limited though.

pinkfrocks · 07/10/2015 13:30

badtime I think you will find that the poster who pronounced she was a lecturer was mentioning education, as were other posters who alluded to their high-powered jobs and educational achievements.

badtime · 07/10/2015 13:36

pinkfrocks, I think you should re-read my posts, as I have never claimed that she didn't. My point was that you implied you were an academic (along with your other implied high-powered jobs), and later criticised someone else for making the same claim.

Anyway, you still haven't said which bits were ironic.

CUUUUUNTTYSSS

Sorry just had to throw that in, y know break up the thread up a bit.
so juvenile

And where is zing with her cunting bunting? It's normally been posted by now.

Goodforsolong · 07/10/2015 13:44

Sad a Y snuck in there

Dawndonnaagain · 07/10/2015 14:01

I rather thought I had mentioned things in passing. I certainly didn't pronounce. It is of course possible that it may have been perceived as an announcement.

badtime · 07/10/2015 14:08

Dawn, pinkfrocks is obviously a troll. She is just saying things to get a reaction. However, she's not a very good one.

When you said you were a lecturer, it was relevant. When she claimed to (maybe) be an 'academic linguist', it was just to try to awe the pro-cunt posters into silence (I think), although she does seem to struggle to maintain relevance to the posts she is supposedly responding to.

Gottagetmoving · 07/10/2015 14:29

Just curious, Those of you who say cunt is 'only a word' - Do you say it when your ( young) children are present? Are you happy for young children to say it?

squoosh · 07/10/2015 14:32

What do you think Gotta?

squoosh · 07/10/2015 14:33

'I use other swear words but only with people I know.'

Am I to presume that 'people I know' includes your children?

jorahmormont · 07/10/2015 14:37

I don't say it when children are present, but that's because although it's only a word in my view, I know other people feel differently. Children don't have the same filter that we do, and would be more likely to come out with it unapologetically around people who will be offended by it, so no, I wouldn't use it around children.

badtime · 07/10/2015 14:44

Do you know, Gotta, I don't say it much, as I don't spend much time talking about vulvas or really unpleasant people in front of young children.

Similarly, I don't say 'vulva' or 'scumbag' a lot.
