To wince at the C word on MN

Yarboosucks · 06/10/2015 18:43

I am certainly no prude and have not lived a sheltered life…. But I am amazed at the use of the c-word on here. I just don't get the apparent acceptance to use a reference to female genitalia as an insult. Do people use that word in RL or is it just here?

You mean.....
Conservative?! Cameron?!
Fucking outrageous!

MissDemelzaCarne · 06/10/2015 18:59

Do you mean cunt or Christmas? Confused

SilverOldie2 · 06/10/2015 18:59

I don't like it, never use it and pretty much ignore it if i see it on here.

SurlyCue
CUNT CUNT CUNT CUNT CUNT CUNT CUNT CUNT CUNT

Crankycunt
Cunt cunt cunt cunt cunt cunt cunt.

A bit childish don't you think? - reminds me of when my 4 year old niece discovered a 'naughty' word - can't remember what - and marched round the house saying it repeatedly.

pinkfrocks · 06/10/2015 19:01

Lots of what I'd say are childish people here, like naughty children, showing off how they use it.
Bet they don't use it really in RL as much as they say they do.

I'd not use it in real life though am happy to use other swear words.

I think what saddens me is the fact that people who do use it all the time have no sensitivity to others who actually regard it as going that bit too far.

DoJo · 06/10/2015 19:01

I had always assumed that it was the last linguistic taboo

I just don't get the apparent acceptance to use a reference to female genitalia as an insult.

There you have it - why is calling someone a word which means vagina the worst thing you can possibly say to them? What is so inherently abhorrent and insulting about being compared to women's sex organs that it is the final word in demonstrating your contempt for someone? Using the word cunt liberally is one way to diminish its power as the most awful thing you can call someone.

I remember watching this and feeling quite enlightened at the time:

meditrina · 06/10/2015 19:01

Corbyn?

Doublebubblebubble · 06/10/2015 19:01

I say cunt all the time irl. It is just a word. There are words that should definitely offend us more... Rape, Murder, Molest, etc but these words aren't sneered at if you use them...

We are just raised to believe that this particular 4 letter word is worse than the others... And there is no apparent reason for that at all

kelper · 06/10/2015 19:02

Kevin bloody Wilson has a song called "you can't say cunt in Canada".....
I'm not a fan of the word tbh, but I don't mind if others at it. I've said it a lot in my head though....

Andylion · 06/10/2015 19:02

My ex is a cunt, he did cuntish things the cunt.

He is horrible? As horrible as a vagina, though? Vaginas are incredibly foul things.

multivac · 06/10/2015 19:02

Aww, I think it makes mumsnetters feel a bit 'special' that they're 'allowed' to use it, whereas it's banned on many other forums. It's understandable that they get a bit carried away at times.

It's one of my favourite words. I'd be unlikely to waste it on here, unless I were discussing something really important.

Doublebubblebubble · 06/10/2015 19:04

^ oops accidentally posted too soon Stephen Fry has said this far far more eloquently than I ever could... Will try to find the video.

AFewGoodWomen · 06/10/2015 19:05

I love it.

It delights me that the most powerful, offensive word in English describes female genitalia :)

The weaker sex? How can we be, when we have cunts?

I used to be all coy about t but then I had the above revelation and now I love it.

Gottagetmoving · 06/10/2015 19:05

I don't like the word, I can't even explain why... and the only other one I would never use is motherfucker,..it just sounds yuk!. I use other swear words but only with people I know. I wouldn't swear if I speak to someone I don't know.

If you use cunt as an insult you are saying a woman's genitalia is something horrible surely? Perhaps it should be used as a compliment? Wink

I use it occasionally in real life, about the same amount as I use the word wanker. Its said affectionately in company I keep too and I use it as an adjective a bit as well "the cunting car wouldn't start again"

mileend2bermondsey · 06/10/2015 19:07

YABU, we're all grown ups here aren't we?

YANBU - the swearing on here is all a bit 'try too hard
Trying too hard at what?? Confused

ImperialBlether · 06/10/2015 19:08

Sharon, you say "I use it liberally in real life. Some people dislike it but thats not my problem." But you're communicating with other people - if they don't like the way you're doing it, then you do have a problem. If I were talking to someone and they started to use that word, I'd move away.

Goodforsolong · 06/10/2015 19:09

Gosh, it's been a few months since the Last cunt thread.

How time flies

Here's my two pence worth again.
I use it in rl as well as on here. Its no different from other genital swear words.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 06/10/2015 19:09

I do clutch my pearls when I hear the word in r/l so when the word has fallen out of my mouth on the rare occasion its because that person really is a cunt

mileend2bermondsey · 06/10/2015 19:09

I'm real life if someone uses it I do question their intelligence
Aaahh, so it's going to be one of those threads.

mileend2bermondsey · 06/10/2015 19:10

If I were talking to someone and they started to use that word, I'd move away
Because the word may hurt you physically? I don't get it?

DoJo · 06/10/2015 19:10

It's a whole to be f*ed. (sic)

Is that how you view female genitalia? Or is this just your personal definition of the specific word 'cunt'? Because I don't think that people generally use it to reduce their sex organs in that way. Also, the word vagina derives from a term meaning 'sword sheath' which is genuinely just a receptacle for a penis, yet I'm sure most people don't consider that in such negative terms, despite the more literal origins.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 06/10/2015 19:11

I dont really care.
Sorry.
I tend to mix with people who love the C word luckily for me.

BMW6 · 06/10/2015 19:11

I loathe the over use of the word too. In RL the only people I hear using it with depressing frequency are certain types of football supporters and trailer trash.

Though for some reason I found the the MN insult "Atrocious Cunt" amusing rather than wince inducing.....

SquirmOfEels · 06/10/2015 19:12

"I'm real life if someone uses it I do question their intelligence"

And one hopes come up with the correct answer that there is no correlation.
