To wince at the C word on MN

I am certainly no prude and have not lived a sheltered life…. But I am amazed at the use of the c-word on here. I just don't get the apparent acceptance to use a reference to female genitalia as an insult. Do people use that word in RL or is it just here?

I don't use it at work but I never swear there unless you count bloody or sod, which are pretty tame as curse words go.

Clawdy · 06/10/2015 20:12

I hate the sound of it ,not entirely sure why, and would never use it or want to hear DH or my grownup kids say it. An age thing, maybe.

Starkswillriseagain · 06/10/2015 20:12

Lilac, ironically someone on my fb has just posted some quote of "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”

Thank that embodies what you said.

pinkfrocks · 06/10/2015 20:13

But it not a case of 'fluffier' forums is it?

You can still have energetic debate without resorting to swearing. Swearing really just shows a lack of vocabulary when overly-used and it shows up the user as being a bit ignorant - or common, as my mum would say.

TheDowagerCuntess · 06/10/2015 20:16

Oh, not necessarily, pinkfrocks!

There are many erudite types who like a well-placed swear word.

mileend2bermondsey · 06/10/2015 20:17

No it really is a case of 'fluffier forums'. If you cant hack it - leave. There is plently of other webspace that caters for sensitive ears by moderating the users as if they are children.

DoJo · 06/10/2015 20:19

I think it's laughable really that women can call men cunts when it's the worst word a man can use to describe a woman.

But why is it the worst word a man can use to describe a woman? Because women find it so offensive to be compared to their own genitalia? Or because men think that it should be so offensive?

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 06/10/2015 20:22

I really couldnt give two hoots what people think about what words I chose to say. You think it makes me sound common- I think you're a narrow minded cunt. You think it makes me sound unintelligent- I think you're a clueless cunt.
If I were to care about people judging my character on words I say then that would also make me a humongous thundercunt.

BolshierAryaStark · 06/10/2015 20:22

I use it as swear word rather than to describe my fanjo, & you can disbelieve all you like but I use it regularly-to friends DH in an affectionate manner granted, if I say it in anger I really, really dislike you...

FarFromAnyRoad · 06/10/2015 20:22

Well - if it's uncool with up and coming 16 year olds then that confirms it as my favourite word of all time! Fucking kids - what do they know? Grin
Actually it's a toss up between fuck and cunt - it all depends on the situation. I could not be RL friends with someone who got all pearl clutchy about either.

FithColumnist · 06/10/2015 20:23

Bollocks. I'm not ignorant and have a prodigiously prolix vocabulary at my disposal. But I do love to say cunt, precisely because of its semantic connotations. The interplay between ostentatious erudition and vulgarity is part of the absolute fucking joy of being able to write and speak fluent English. It's all about the bathos.

I am common, though.

BolshierAryaStark · 06/10/2015 20:24

Humongous thundercunt Grin Fucking love that.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 06/10/2015 20:25

I know someone who says it means the person using it is unintelligent and guess who's got a good professional well paid job and who hasn't?

BolshierAryaStark · 06/10/2015 20:26

Ooops, friends & DH-not friends DH, though he is sometimes a cunt...

If you use too many big and 'clever' words on the other hand you are branded pretentious/a hipster. So cunty fucksticks it is then.

Farahilda · 06/10/2015 20:28

"guess who's got a good professional well paid job and who hasn't?"

Well, it would be just a guess, wouldn't it?

Because there's no link whatsoever between favoured sweariness and income/employment.

FarFromAnyRoad · 06/10/2015 20:28

Grin @ cunty fucksticks Grin

mileend2bermondsey · 06/10/2015 20:30

Brava FithColumnist Wine Grin

Goodforsolong · 06/10/2015 20:33

And people who use the 'swearing shows a lack of vocabulary' argument.

Are showing their own gross ignorance and lack of thought process.

I used to hate the c word. Something awful happened which involved my then 13 yo DS last summer. I cried for weeks, the c word was the worst word I could shout/scream/think of. DS has hopefully recovered from awful incident, I love that word for its sheer strength.

IfNotNowThenWhenever · 06/10/2015 20:52

Hmm. I don't use cunt much as a swear word, tend more towards arse, bollocks and knob.Grin
I do sometimes use it to refer to my own. It's a nice word, satisfying and warm. I hate hate hate the word vagina, it sounds so medical.

Yarboosucks · 06/10/2015 20:53

I use twat - but tend to associate that with pregnant goldfish - Is that even true - another thread perhaps!

Having been left on my own tonight and had my favourite dinner in the world - warm hard-boiled eggs, smashed on toast with dried chillies - so I am now full of warm feelings for everyone, if you use that word or not. But I will continue not to use it and suspect that my aversion is too ingrained to lose the wince!

Yarboosucks · 06/10/2015 20:56

Oh I love the word vagina! Especially as for years I thought the queen was Elizabeth Vagina….

OP posts:
sproketmx · 06/10/2015 20:56

I must use it a million times in a day. I'm a fifer and as other scottish people we are renowned for it. Here it just means a person, like some cunt's been at the pub means somebody's been at the pub etc. Still shocks the west coat lot I think tho
