To discuss period 'leaking' with DD 12

My DD is 12 and has not started her periods, although I suspect it is not far away.

I first discussed periods with her at 8 or 9 and we are quite open about it. Her sanpro for when she needs it is in the drawer with mine.

Recently I've read a few MN posts that have mentioned their DD leaking all over the bed, or into school uniform and generally not managing to cope with the blood.

So, the question is, should I mention leaking at night, and through sanpro into school uniform? I have always had average/light periods and have never leaked at night or into daytime clothes.....but realise that it is a possibility which could be distressing.

Is it a step too far, or would it be good preparation?

Experienced mums, please give your opinion...

Different strokes for different fokes. We had small bucket with lid in bathroom (had been a cloth nappy bucket). it wasn't smelly or gross and much better than soaking in the sink for visitors to see. Mum just emptied every night down loo and chucked knickers into wash. It was just the norm and not a bid deal. if she got stained then I just popped them next to the machine yo be washed. I think it's all in the attitude. Mum was/is very practical and her attitude was its just something you deal with, nothing to be embarrassed about.

she got me a range of undies for me to try out at night, my choice. By trial and error I found granny knickers the best at night but again my choice. even with tampon and a towel I would still flood the bed. Two pairs knickers helped but again my choice, mum just gave me options.

I really wouldnt mention it, as per other poster my mother made huge fuss when i leaked and when i first started asked me why i hadnt 'felt' it and remedied it 'to avoid the mess'. I was in the middle of an exam so couldnt leave exam hall FFS. It made the whole thing more of an ordeal than it needed to be. When it does happen (because some teachers wont let you go to loo mid lesson either in normal lessons ) just do salt and cold water. Voila, gone. My BFF at school had terrible heavy periods due to endometriosis, undiagnosed, and when she told teacher why she HAD to go, she changed rule, but most schools dont accept during lesson loo visits come 12.
