To expect someone to wait until dd is safely inside?

My 14 year old dd has been dropped home by two different people recently, one occasion was after her babysitting, the other was after a dance rehearsal.

On both occasions, the driver (who are both dads), drove off before I had opened the door to dd.

Not sure if I'm being precious, but surely it's good sense to wait until she's safely inside before driving away? If I was dropping someone home, I would make sure they got in ok even with an adult, let alone a child. AIBU?

Meh, think you're being a bit precious tbh.

QueenofLouisiana · 29/09/2015 21:40

I'd wait. I'd like to think my friends would too.

Snossidge · 29/09/2015 21:40

I'd assume they knew you were home, or she had a key?

glampinggaloshes · 29/09/2015 21:41

Depends. After dark, I would always check someone has got in, child or adult.

RandomMess · 29/09/2015 21:41

A bit precious - you're happy to let her babysit and be responsible for dc under 16 yet think they should see her in? Presumably she has her own key?

MinecraftWonder · 29/09/2015 21:41

YANBU.

My dad still sometimes gives me and a friend a lift home after a night out, rather than us paying for a taxi.

He still waits until my friend is through the door before driving off and we're 29!

Ineedtimeoff · 29/09/2015 21:42

she is 14 not 4. I assume she has a key?

SavoyCabbage · 29/09/2015 21:42

I'd wait. I don't close my door and go inside my house till people have driven away either.

Dancergirl · 29/09/2015 21:43

No she didn't have her key. It was dark, about 10.30 and 8.30 respectively.

Yabu to expect it, however most people would wait

PaulAnkaTheDog · 29/09/2015 21:43

I thought you were talking about a seven year old. Yabu.

Dancergirl · 29/09/2015 21:45

I just thought it was good manners and a nice thing to do. Just what I would do anyway, with someone of any age. It's only an extra few seconds.

Where I live you can't wait outside because there's nowhere to park and the traffic is quite heavy.

Sirzy · 29/09/2015 21:47

I wait for anyone I drop off but I wouldn't expect it of everyone.

RandomMess · 29/09/2015 21:47

I think people would assume she has her own key.

Actually I do always wait regardless, mostly in case someone has forgotten their key/locked themselves out but I don't expect it of others for my dc IYSWIM.

BertrandRussell · 29/09/2015 21:47

I always wait- even dropping grown ups home. They might have forgotten their key, or something. I just like to make sure they're safely inside.

laffymeal · 29/09/2015 21:47

And if someone has gone to the trouble of giving your DD a lift home and saved you going and collecting her, I really wouldn't be quibbling over whether they'd waited long enough to see her in. Do you want jam on it OP?

GloGirl · 29/09/2015 21:47

I agree about waiting after dark for anyone.

DoreenLethal · 29/09/2015 21:48

No matter what age, surely you wait until they are in before driving off.

I remember getting home from school to find my family had gone to pick up my step sister and I was locked out until they got back very very late. It wasn't a pleasant experience.

Perhaps next time they want her to babysit you need to say no and pick her up yourself from Dance.

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 29/09/2015 21:48

I wait if im dropping a grown up off to see if they get in before I drive away!

MrsMummyPig · 29/09/2015 21:48

I agree that it is good manners to wait.

BertrandRussell · 29/09/2015 21:48

I do the waving off thing too- not shutting the door until they've gone.....

Oysterbabe · 29/09/2015 21:49

It's completely unnecessary, I wouldn't expect anyone to wait.

SouthWestmom · 29/09/2015 21:50

I always wait. I'm installing it into my boys to wait for girlfriends as they grow up - we wait for granny to get in etx.
I always remember the girl that wanted to be a model who was dropped off by her boyfriend and murdered on the way up her path and thinking why didn't he wait to see her in?

CurlyBlueberry · 29/09/2015 21:53

I would wait, for someone of any age. Different if you can't for some reason e.g. mega busy road and they hop off at a traffic light or something, but on an average quiet suburban road, absolutely. I can't see how it does any harm to wait and if they've forgotten their keys/no-one's in etc it could be really useful. So why wouldn't you?
