To dislike "Radical Feminism"

InternetPerson · 25/09/2015 21:15

I've got nothing against feminists that fight for womens rights and genuinely want the best the best for everyone and don't hate anyone, but "RadFems" tend to be full of bitterness and hatred. And I'm not just talking about kids, these are high profile, intelligent women with power and influence. Do you think it's unreasonable to dislike something where most people think men are inherantly evil and to be feared? Or do you think their hatred is fair and we should respect them for their good work in trying to make humans hate eath other even more?

Like, I said, I have nothing against Feminism, it's done a lot of great work down the years and still does, but "Rad Fem" and "Feminism" are too completly different things in my opinion. Is this a wrong conclusion?

a tool? it is a man made thing.

Lweji · 27/09/2015 18:24

Unfortunately people with power are reluctant to give it up. We see this worldwide. Negotiation is the way to go.

Unfortunately you can only negotiate from a position of strength. Which is why tube drivers AFAIK are better paid than nurses.

TheXxed · 27/09/2015 18:25

Feminism is a man made things and it fights oppression.

nooka · 27/09/2015 18:25

It's pathetic because it's a poor debate technique apart from anything else. Can't argue on the terms of the debate, introduce random new topic. Attempt to undermine other people's arguments with a straw man.

Now sure if people had declared that they were both radical feminists and theists then you could say that that was problematic. But they haven't have they?

Oh and I'm an atheist, partly because most religions are misogynist, but mainly because I simply don't believe. I'm also a feminist and most of my views align with radical feminism. I'm also rational and can use the English language, like most people, radical or not. Both are weird and quite sexist slurs IMO.

Autumnnights1 · 27/09/2015 18:26

bloody hell, women spouting and getting aggressive over me saying radical does put others off and joining in.

Women spouting slavery etc.

Why not go back further to religion. You tell me one religion that does not make the man superior other than wicker that was mother nature based.

God is a HE is he not?

What a load of bollox

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 27/09/2015 18:29

God is not a he in all religions

God is a power

just to clear that up for you

Autumnnights1 · 27/09/2015 18:30

I will have a huge debate about man made cultures/religions and the answer is easy, it was man made.

Shouting and making anything Radical is not the way to go.

Belittling other womens views is not the way to go.

Im a feminist living in a world that needs to change, I dont scream and shout, nor to i belittle any other woman that Radfems on here seem to do.

PlaysWellWithOthers · 27/09/2015 18:31

Im not being goady at all, which is something people say when they have no other answer by the way, therefore projecting.

No, I tend only to use it when I've read pages and pages of goady fuckery from someone who's obviously got an axe to grind, and, because they couldn't actually carry the argument they were attempting to put forward in a bucket, decides to derail onto something random. Like a troll. Or goady fucker.

If I were projecting, I'd suggest you were bored to tears by goady fuckers. Or hungry. Or have plenty of answers but are unwilling to set pearls before swine.

HTH

almondpudding · 27/09/2015 18:31

I don't really see why all women should want to join in with radical feminism. Surely what is important is that its actions benefit women and girls?

Autumnnights1 · 27/09/2015 18:31

YANBU OP.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/09/2015 18:33

An extraordinary derail over religion.
I am an agnostic, because as a scientist I rely on evidence, not faith.

fwiw, I suspect most radfems may be agnostic, i.e. like most of the UK.
Most of us respect religious faith, as an important aspect of our multi-ethnic society, but absolutely NOT where it affects the rights of women.

PlaysWellWithOthers · 27/09/2015 18:35

what the fuck is wrong with you?

Now we are talking slaves Grin oh behave.

Nutters Grin

You might want to call the fire brigade for your pants, old bean.

MaudGonneMad · 27/09/2015 18:36

So we're to talk about religion, but not slavery. There must be some logic to that inside Autumn's befuddled brain, but I can't see it.

PlaysWellWithOthers · 27/09/2015 18:38

almond, I don't think that radical feminism is or should be for all women.

Women need to decide what level of fight they're prepared to get into, and if being told to drink bleach fairly regularly isn't for you, then I for one wouldn't think less of you.

You are completely correct though, in that what we do as people should benefit women and girls.

You in your way, and I in mine.

PlaysWellWithOthers · 27/09/2015 18:40

And, I'm really sorry if that sounds slightly patronising, it's really not meant to. I'm tired and am having trouble finding the words I want to say... apols in advance!

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/09/2015 18:40

I'm an atheist. But I think religion is a symptom, not a cause of oppression. Just another power structure to beat people over the head with.

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/09/2015 18:41

I'm loving the fact that PlaysWellWithOthers is encouraging others to play well with others. Grin I want to change my NN to HasAMillionDollars.

BigChocFrenzy · 27/09/2015 18:42

The OP hit many emotional buttons and he (I suspect) is enjoying the fun.
I have now reported this thread.

LurcioAgain · 27/09/2015 18:44

MrsTerry you beat me to it. As Xxed's egs upthread (peace keepers [sic] abusing women and children) show, the problem is the underlying violence not the ideology arbitrarily designed to justify it.

PlaysWellWithOthers · 27/09/2015 18:44

Don't you dare change your name Mrs TP!

It makes me smile every time I see it.

I miss that man and his wicked humour very much indeed, and your NN is a lovely reminder of him.

CoteDAzur · 27/09/2015 18:45

I hope MNHQ don't delete this thread.

It has been quite interesting.

LineyReborn · 27/09/2015 18:45

Autumn I think you would make a lovely Pope.

iamaboveandBeyond · 27/09/2015 18:47

May i take this opportunity to announce that i am a god-exclusionary-radical-feminist? You know, for your religion poll :)

PlaysWellWithOthers · 27/09/2015 18:47

Fuck! After a post praising TP, I'm going to have to hand in my man-hating radfem card, aren't I?

What on earth am I going to do to fill my evenings now I can't be told to die in a fire?
