To think some people are going to regret some of these ridiculous tattoos.

What is it with tattoos lately. They're just getting ridiculous and some of them look plain stupid. Rita Ora has some just under her armpits, the part of the arm that gets dangly as you age. Just what is the point, they don't look good at all. I don't think they define you as a person (as lots of them say) at all. How does it. Confused

I think people who did it on a whim will. Like the 21 year old hipsters who went from nothing to full body neck and face tats in a year will later down the line. People who thought out and considered their pieces won't

No I'm not a fan of tattoos either. Although I did hear one story about a man who got the last words his mum said to him tattooed on to his arm, which I thought was loveley. I don't mind little flowery ones on women but those big massive tattoos down the arms are a no no especially on women.
I couldn't get one done because of the pain. I had my ears pierced last year while DD held my hand. I was sobbing like a baby afterwards. God I'm such a wimp.Blush They must have had a laugh at me in that shop. I was 38 years if age. Still I don't bsuppose agev is anything to do with having a low pain threshold.

FattyNinjaOwl · 13/09/2015 20:55

What Derek said.

Andrewofgg · 13/09/2015 20:56

Or the young woman who bent down to pick something up from the floor in Starbucks and revealed a swathe of her back with the words in big block letters YES THIS FUCKING HURT - my colleagues in the office said that had to be Magaluf.

NotMyMonkey · 13/09/2015 20:57

Each to their own. Who are we to say others tattoo's are ridiculous?

TeaAndNoSympathy · 13/09/2015 20:58

Well yes, some people will probably regret their tattoos.

Some won't.

Not really your concern either way, is it?

noisytoys · 13/09/2015 20:58

I'm getting married next year with a big forearm tattoo of the little mermaid on show. I love the tatoo but do wish it wasn't so prominent and easier to cover.

Hoppipolar · 13/09/2015 20:59

Unless they're forcing you to also have a tattoo yabu.

At least a terrible thigh tattoo won't be seen in a ball gown or wedding dress. Not likely to have an impact on a career in law.

Bananasin · 13/09/2015 21:06

A teenager in a shop recently had a black picture of a handgun tattooed on his neck with a red word immediately below it. It drove me mad that I couldn't read what the word said. Is this a common tatto? I went straight home to google it but drew a blank.

Notasinglefuckwasgiven · 13/09/2015 21:07

I have lots. Including a huge cross being pulled apart by demons covering my upper arm and shoulder. A large quote from dtb on my forearm he said which saved me from a huge mistake. Several small ones and a beautiful swallow. They are all significant to me and I've had them years and don't regret them. It's personal. If you don't think it through I'd imagine you could regret them.....

Bunbaker · 13/09/2015 21:12

My friend's daughter had a gun tattooed on her thigh a couple of years ago. She wore some shorts to go on holiday and they wouldn't let her on the plane like that. Fortunately her friend just happened to have a maxi dress in her hand luggage that she could put on to cover up.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 13/09/2015 21:14

This again?

Shit tats look shit on anyone. Indian ink on the knuckles or the full face Indian ink of the guy who gets on my bus. Bloody dreadful.

But professional tats can look amazing. I'm very partial to a detailed sleeve on a man, especially with a nice bicep. Drool.

I don't have any because I can't settle on what to get or where to get it. I've given birth three times but I'm scared of the pain.

These threads just bring out the snobs who look down their noses and sniff at anyone with a tattoo.

ChristineDePisan · 13/09/2015 21:21

Like lots of fashionable things, tattoos can look lovely on young, perky skin. Not so great on wobbly, wrinkly skin

Cloppysow · 13/09/2015 21:26

Yeah, tattoos are to 2015 what denim was to the 80's.

Todays tattoo shops are tomorrows laser removal clinics.

Sunsoo · 13/09/2015 21:26

I think the 'sailor jerry' style tattoos will look awful in a few years...

Cockbollocks · 13/09/2015 21:28

Honestly, its just boring. Up there with Mother and baby parking spaces.

YABU to bother to type the post.

and IADBU to bloody open the thread.

LilacSpunkMonkey · 13/09/2015 21:31

Someone said on here once, on the subject of tats on old skin, that if their biggest worry when they're old is their tats looking shit then they've done alright.

And they're right.

RolyPolierThanThou · 13/09/2015 21:32

Since tattoos are pretty mainstream now, by the time those with tattoos are 'old and wrinkled' it'll just look pretty normal then for people that age.

A bit like wearing denim at 70 is not so weird as it would once have been.

I'm not keen on tattoos myself, would never get one but other people's don't offend me. Their skin. It's just adornment that happens to be permanent. I don't fret about that any more than I fret about a haircut I don't like. Sure, they can change their haircut but they might not. What's it to me that a choice they made about their appearance is irreversible? I'm only looking at it now, whether that's a permanent or temporary thing.

TheMotherOfHellbeasts · 13/09/2015 21:34

I have the dates of all of the babies I've lost to miscarriage or stillbirth tattooed in very tiny roman numerals all the way down my spine, and then DS's date of birth at the bottom. I love my tattoo, but in a bittersweet way.

I reckon I've seen 5 or 6 really well done and beautifully detailed tattoos clearly done by an artist

The rest are either mediocre or really shit

Sallystyle · 13/09/2015 21:36

I am getting another one soon.

I can't wait. In the same place as Rita Ora as well.

And I won't regret it. I am going to sag, tattoo or not.
