To think some people are going to regret some of these ridiculous tattoos.

What is it with tattoos lately. They're just getting ridiculous and some of them look plain stupid. Rita Ora has some just under her armpits, the part of the arm that gets dangly as you age. Just what is the point, they don't look good at all. I don't think they define you as a person (as lots of them say) at all. How does it. Confused

Agreed. Sleeves just look like sleeves. Totally generic to the average observer, from more than 30cm away.

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 14/09/2015 08:59

Has anyone posted this yet?

I'm going to set the cat amongst the pigeons; I have a tattoo of a SKYLANDER along with many other random and not so random tattoos!

Go forth, and judge my immature/attention seeking/mad behaviour.

It is down to the individual, it is their body to do what they wish.

SunshineAndShadows · 14/09/2015 09:01

Well this thread has made me very glad that I'm a tattooed (professional, academic) rather than a sneery, judgy type of person that assumes all people with tattoos have mental health problems!

I'm pretty happy to be in the tattooed camp if that reflects a more open minded approach to other people's decisions. I personally think that narrow minded, superficial judgemental personality traits are more likely to have a negative impact on your personal or professional life than a few tattoos - that's certainly been my experience at least.

MorrisZapp · 14/09/2015 09:02

Of course it is their body and they can do as they wish. Nobody has suggested restricting choice, have they?

Although I've heard so many 'drunken tattoo' stories I'm pretty cynical now about the alleged professionalism of tattoo artists.

PenelopeClearwater · 14/09/2015 09:05

KingJoffery I bet your Skylander tattoo is great! My boys love Skylanders.

It is. DS and I used to spend hours playing Skylanders together and those times were probably the happiest I've ever been. He's a preteen now and does his own thing and it's nice to have a little memento.

Besides, he loves it too.

That nepotism cotton woman's look dreadful. Some look nice, some look like rich spoilt kids thinking they are rebels.

I also think the full sleeves look very masculine.

Looked at the buzz feed link. It's true, those older folk look fine and comfortable with their tats.

However, the 'I'll be hanging out looking great with my tattoos and you'll just look like every other old bastard'' quote at the end made me think: very soon it'll be completely the norm for old people to be tattooed, as the majority of folk seem to have one these days. Good for ending the 'what about when you're old' attitude, not so good for those anticipating being the cool, edgy OAP with tattoos. 'Every other old bastard' will be tattooed Grin

DoJo · 14/09/2015 09:12

Of all the things I might live to regret, my tattoos are the least of my worries. Will I possibly be diagnosed with a life limiting disease, and worry that my lifestyle might have contributed? Perhaps. Could I make a stupid mistake at some point and end up doing damage to myself or someone else? Perhaps. Am I vain enough to waste any time worrying about what other people might think about a bit of skin that I chose to have tattooed if I'm lucky enough to live to an age where it will sag and wrinkle? I don't think so.

PenelopeClearwater · 14/09/2015 09:13

I think I'll hide this thread before I bang my head on the table! Confused

Rufusgy · 14/09/2015 09:14

Cheryl vapid hair girl went out on her engagement party with her hair up and tattoo from last marriage on display. Now that is classless.

Here's my 'cut along the dotted line' one. Not beautiful, not elegant, but do I regret it? Not for one second Grin

On Saturday my kids (11, asd, 8, nt) and I sat next to a young guy on the train.
Red Mohican, tattoos.
We live in a remote area of Scotland and he 'stood out' to say the least.
Turned out he was a Shepherd on his granddad's hill farm and he told us lots of great Shepherding tales.
Then he told us all about his tattoos.
He showed us some of his friend-at-Art-college's tattooing work on his phone. The designs were beautiful.
My kids were fascinated.

I have never been keen on them but I have some large surgical scars and I would consider covering them in the future having spoken to him and seen the work he showed us.

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 14/09/2015 09:20

I debated getting a cut along the dotted line tatt on my webbed toes. But it's been done.

And I have other tattoos on my feet/calves and they wouldn't co-ordinate...

Whereyourtreasureis · 14/09/2015 09:21

I don't regret mine, they all mean something. A weeping angel across my back which took hours, my dDCs dates of birth, the autograph of my favourite artist when I met them and they signed me Grin
With the possible exception of one done 15+ years ago- on my lower back, as they've since been christened a 'Tramp Stamp'. Sometimes things catch on and become over-used. I never regretted it until everyone had one.
Same happened with DDs name. I chose a beautiful, almost unheard of name for my girl, now it seems everyone's DD has it!
Angry

Although I've heard so many 'drunken tattoo' stories I'm pretty cynical now about the alleged professionalism of tattoo artists.

Like all humans, there are professional and principled tattooists, and those who will do anything if someone pays them.

None of that makes sense. Care to translate? Wink

VerityWaves · 14/09/2015 09:26

It doesn't bother me in the slightest I think some of them look stunning.
But
The only thing I would say is that life changes and when they are older they may want a job in banking or the "corporate" world and they just aren't acceptable on display there.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 14/09/2015 09:45

Some tattoos look fine, and when you can cover them, they're great, but when they're completely on show and everywhere I kind of feel sorry for the person, because it looks horrendous and they will clearly regret it. Lou from tattoo fixers for example, her whole neck and chest, imagine if your child had done that to herself? I would cry my eyes out.

PenelopeClearwater · 14/09/2015 09:49

I won't clearly regret mine at all and if any of my children had visible tattoos I would think 'good for you'
