With 59% of the vote (first round).

I've just been following the live BBC broadcast and just wanted them to get on with it.

No doubt people on both sides of the political spectrum will be overjoyed with the result.

But the question remains, does anyone think JC has a realistic chance of being prime minister in 2020?

I agree with something that was mentioned upthread wrt Corbynism as something of a cult. Whilst that may have been enough to win him the leadership election it won't be enough to propel him into number 10.

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou

Is that real profits or electronic profits that don't actually exist?

Nope but I think TW will have a bloody good go...

juneau · 12/09/2015 19:18

Juneau, I think the flaw in that argument is that many UKIP and Green voters made their choices for reasons which are traditionally Labour's preserve.

I don't think its a flawed argument at all. So those who 'defected' to the Greens may well go back. Okay.

As for UKIP - many of the people who voted for them are concerned about immigration and Europe. Well Corbyn has already stated his preference for leaving Europe, but Labour's stance on immigration has always been very generous and unconcerned about mass immigration, whereas immigration is a huge issue for a huge number of voters, so those who are very concerned might well stick with UKIP.

Then you have all the Labour supporters who were wooed by New Labour and more middle of the road politics. I suspect that many of them have already gone over to the Tories, and those that hadn't by the last GE will probably do so with Corbyn as leader. So its swings and roundabouts.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 12/09/2015 19:32

I know, just more of the same unfortunately.

In the eighties Cameron was a member of the Bullingdon club, a club which enjoyed such activities as lighting £50 notes under the noses of homeless people. At the same time Corbyn was protesting against apartheid, at a time when it was not popular to do so. They are not cut from the same cloth.

SheGotAllDaMoves · 12/09/2015 19:32

inthebox JC himself doesn't think he will win. When asked directly by Yvette Cooper if he saw himself as PM he said he saw himself as someone who would change the party.

His job as he sees it is nothing to do with the electorate. He probably won't stand.

jorahmormont · 12/09/2015 19:35

I agree with pp who say that Jez will change the party, and Tom will then stand up just in time for GE.

Andante58 · 12/09/2015 19:37

Queen starlight - I meant low - i phrased it wrong.

squoosh · 12/09/2015 19:39

Only the dimwitted could claim that Cameron and Corbyn are cut from the same cloth.

SheGotAllDaMoves · 12/09/2015 19:40

I think whether TW stands will depend on how turbulent the next few years are.

If we see real in fighting, he won't stand. He's too ambitious to inherit a car crash.

If the in fighting remains moderate and JC continues to remain popular, he may well stand on a less extreme platform.

That said, there are others biding their time.

InTheBox · 12/09/2015 19:42

Good grief! I can accept the idea that JC's intention is to change the party regardless of the general election. But if Tom Watson has aspirations to take over the reins then Labour is most certainly doomed.

googlypoogly · 12/09/2015 19:43

well the 3 oxbridge boring bland bullshitters have, with all their experience and intellect, failed to convince the electorate that they are not boring bland bullshitters

SheGotAllDaMoves · 12/09/2015 19:44

TW is very ambitious!

Chippednailvarnish · 12/09/2015 19:46

Don't underestimate TW.

squoosh · 12/09/2015 19:48

You don't get to where TW is without being ferociously ambitious.

KanyeWestPresidentForLife · 12/09/2015 19:49

Jesus fucking Christ. I just got the attached emailed to me by Conservative Central Office. I'm no fan of JC but I rather think they're over egging the pudding. Fucking LOL.

Going back a bit but I agree with you APlaceOnTheCouch re. today's resignations. They reek of toys being chucked out of the pram. Hunt knew he had no chance of a shadow cabinet position so very easy for him to stalk dramatically off.

squoosh · 12/09/2015 19:52

That's hilarious Kanye. I heard Michael Fallon being interviewed earlier telling us our families were now in danger. Gave me a good chuckle.

jorahmormont · 12/09/2015 19:52

Fucking hell Kanye he's really got them running scared, hasn't he? Couldn't this be construed as defamation of character?

If I were him I'd take it as a compliment that the current party in power are so terrified of him, they've resorted to sending out scaremongering emails to convince people he's the Doom Bringer Grin

QueenStarlight · 12/09/2015 19:54

'I as a single parent if I die tomorrow my children are homeless because we have to pay inheritance tax.'

If your children are homeless it is because they haven't worked hard enough, surely?

Or because if they are still dependents, adequate contributions from the rich haven't enabled there to be a safe and decent welfare safety net.

What is wrong with your money (which you don't need) is given to ensure that ALL children are safe, that your own children live in harmony with rather than fear of those who aren't as privileged?

squoosh · 12/09/2015 19:55

They'll be dusting this one off soon.................

Well, there we have it: Jeremy Corbyn has just been announced the next Labour Leader

Lol.

SheGotAllDaMoves · 12/09/2015 19:59

jorah they're not running scared.

They understand perfectly that a figure as extreme as JC is hugely galvanising to their rank and file. He is the perfect way to keep an errant Tory party with a comfortable majority in line.
