loads of experts on today, to discuss the Queen and her reign

I wonder if the Queen listens to them and thinks OFFS, or whatever the Queens version would be?

Yes, bloody man

MrsBertMacklin · 09/09/2015 22:48

They don't like Nicholas, Charles famously caught saying he couldn't bear him.

littledrummergirl · 09/09/2015 22:49

I think it was great. History will recall that shortly after the Scottish referendum in which they voted to stay as part of Great Britain and keep the queen, the longest reigning monarch of Great Britain was warmly welcomed by the first minister who said some lovely things.

Brilliant propaganda, well played.

LunchpackOfNotreDame · 09/09/2015 23:02

The Queen asked for it to be kept down played and that should be respected after all she only became Queen because her father died.

SilverBirchWithout · 09/09/2015 23:05

I suspect the arse lickers are liked better than republicans like me Smile

SisterNancySinatra · 09/09/2015 23:07

Someone on news said " it's because she didn't want to be in competition with her great great grandmother Queen Victoria ". Hmm. As if she knew her and as if anyone's alive who remembers her and would be a bit miffed .

MyBoysAreFab · 09/09/2015 23:09

Nicholas Witchell name teeth itch. Yes bet, he was in his element. He is so sycophantic, banging on about what the queen will be thinking and doing like he is her bezzie, when she probably has a lifelong restraining order against him.

PerspicaciaTick · 09/09/2015 23:09

If I were her, I would be sending a few people to the Tower tonight.
Everyone who said "Ho, ho, HerMaj doesn't want a fuss today - but we are going to witter on about it all anyway, completely riding roughshod over her wishes and making it all about US".
And whoever thought that sharing a train with Nicola Sturgeon seemed like a fun way to spend the day. At least Phil got to stare out of the window for a bit.
And David Starkey for being sarky about HerMaj's lifetime of dignified silence.

Rhine · 09/09/2015 23:20

Nicholas Witchell is just awful isn't he? He's such an arse crawler. Remember when Prince Charles was caught on camera calling him awful?

trollkonor · 09/09/2015 23:29

I am not a royalist or someone who has much interest in the royal family ... But ..... I can understand the competition stance. She will recognise that it's not merit that she's the longest reigning monarch but fate, or whatever you want to call it. She had no say in who previously died and when, or who hung up their crowns and when. The history of her parents plus extended family around Europe were very much tied in a big war torn European mess. It's not really a yay me, or us, moment.

Then there is the cost aspect of recent and planned celebrations. Plus you dont want media fatigue.

Always worth watching Grin

I would just love if the Queen was a MNer and was actually the one who posted this thread... I think I'll just assume that's the case, it makes me happy

Agreed ma'am, they've been terribly arse-licky today.

ClearBlueWater · 09/09/2015 23:42

We were at Tweedbank today.

Her Maj was terribly late (well over an hour).
I think her Helicopter couldn't take off from Balmoral this am due to the fog?
Waited nearly 3 hours with my kids and she was there for about 15m?
My ds is now Republican Grin

Anyways, it was fun to see Nicola Sturgeon so grovelly.
Bet that was a fun journey for them all - Her Maj, St Nic and Phileeeeeeeep.

Fatmomma99 · 09/09/2015 23:48

As in:

"Oh Phileeeeep, what a tedious day one has had today. Toadying to that vile Scot's woman. Is her name Mary, Queen of Scots? Oh... no.. Nicola. That's it! And that dreadful Nicholas. One needs to put one's onesie on and chill in front of Bake Orf and be amused"

And and secretly do a stealth post about how shit the royal family are. Prob under the name of "Worra"!!!!!

That'd be BRILLIANT!

Fatmomma99 · 09/09/2015 23:49

p.s. No idea (or particular interest) in the real Worra's views on the royals.

That one can post for herself!

ClearBlueWater · 10/09/2015 00:05

Well, apart from the rictus grins when on camera, I don't know which woman looked more sodding miserable today Grin

Phileeeep looked jolly old (fair do's, he is jolly old)
but had a semi-amused grin throughout.

I kept hoping he'd make some gaffe about 'The Scots' (ie drunk/benefits scroungers/'rebellious Scots to crush') but no such levity enlivened the occasion.

I suspect the Queen's sense of humour is used up and St Nic never had one.

I wonder what the royals think of the people who do things like camp out for literally weeks outside a maternity hospital when a royal baby is due. And i don't mean the press. I mean the faces which are always first in line every time, grinning and waving.

Maybe if you're royal born and bred it seems a natural thing for your subjects to want to do - sleep rough to be first in line to see you go past in a car ect.

But those members of the royal family who were not born into royalty themselves and have experienced life as a commoner; they must realise that the camper outers are a bit ....... what's the word?

ClearBlueWater · 10/09/2015 10:33

well, we turned up not very long before and it was as much to see the train as HM?

limitedperiodonly · 10/09/2015 10:53

Mostly the media arselickers aren't doing it for the Royals, they're doing it for the appearance fee.

The audience isn't the Royal Family, it's their fans.

Though if I have to hear one more person trotting out that old chestnut about what a good mimic the Queen is I may explode.

So that'll be taking the piss out of someone behind their back, then?
