Can't bloody believe it .. I'm in full flow today after an 8 month (or could be 9 - I can't really remember) pause. My periods were up and down a lot before the long gap, but this time I really thought that it was over for good. I've been ever so smug about it, thinking 'is that all there is to it? your periods just stop?', feeling pleased that I hadn't had any bothersome symptoms Blush. Looks like I got that wrong.

Anyone else have this happen to them??

I guess it's quite common, as I think the advice is that you haven't really been through the menopause until you've had no periods for a year?? Looks like I'm back to square one with that one .. Angry

I had 3 periods each 5 months apart. Thought that was it. Then had 3 less than 21 days apart in a rowHmm am beyond confused

WankerDeAsalWipe · 08/09/2015 20:00

Yup - I had the same except I had it 3 years on the trot - would go for 10 months with nothing then 2 periods (in the summer) and then nothing until next summer - nothing at all for 2 years now though (I'm 49)

magoria · 08/09/2015 20:03

Yeah it is so frustrating.

LarrytheCucumber · 08/09/2015 20:04

I went 23 months without a period and then started again.

MagnumPremiumLemon · 08/09/2015 20:05

That's totally unreasonable. As unreasonable as getting your periods back when your baby is 10 weeks old, despite exclusively breastfeeding day and night.

Hormones are absolute wankers.

MagnumPremiumLemon · 08/09/2015 20:07

That was 9 years ago and I'm still annoyed about it.

weegiemum · 08/09/2015 20:08

I was diagnosed as prem menopause 4 years ago at 39/40. Deeeee-lighted!

All based on hormone levels, blood tests, very rigorous.

When I had a period at 42 I got sharpish referral for scans, looking for endometrial or ovarian cancer.

Nope, just my body deciding that after 2 clear years (which is diagnostic pre-50) it would feel like having a period about every 5-6 months. Interestingly it coincided with my dd1 starting her periods and when I do have one they always coincide now. Dd2 just started - same week!

Back to having lilets in my bag.

kitnkaboodle · 08/09/2015 20:10

Holy cow - no-one tells you this stuff. Luckily I still had some old pads at the back of a drawer ... I can't stand unpredictability, but looks like I'll have to get used to it!

That happened to me but then that was my last period and I've now gone 14 months without one. I know that I could have another but I don't think I will now. The menopause symptoms started 6 months after that last period, until then I was sailing through this menopausal malarkey quite happily. For the last 9 months however I have really suffered Sad

Horsemad · 08/09/2015 20:12

Happened to me too Angry Then I went another 6 mths without one and had another in July!

Nothing since and as I'm now 51.5 I'm hoping that's it!

Hellocampers · 08/09/2015 20:14

Oh yes op welcome to that bloody club.

After having nice easy monthly periods until 48 I started to bleed and bleed and it just went on for 9 months. Had a mirena coil fitted and took another 9 months to stop.

All good and period free for a year and then bled for 3 weeks. Had a scan and apparently all is fine!!!!!!

Stopped now. It's a complete pita and of course it's hard to know if it's serious or not as post menopausal bleeding can be a sign of cancer but how long is post menopausal and when should you worry!! Angry

As if periods from 14, pregnancy, labour and breast feeding wasn't enough crap!

I am the same age as you op.

Hellocampers · 08/09/2015 20:17

Magnum I had the same as you exclusively breastfeeding. It's. Bloody myth in my opinion that bf delays periods! I got pregnant with ds2 when ds1 was 8 months and still breast fed.

Ffs!

Cloppysow · 08/09/2015 20:20

My mum hadn't had a period for about 5 years, then she had two after my brother died. Funny things uteruses. Or should that be uteri?

sodabreadjam · 08/09/2015 20:23

Hadn't had a period for 18 months and then had my final, final one at age 56.

Prior to that I had had a few years of very heavy periods on and off.

The upside of this - because I still had a decent amount of oestrogen circulating I am not at all wrinkly for my age. Smile

FloppyRagdoll · 08/09/2015 21:21

Oh dear, kitnkaboodle, you have my full sympathy. I had horrendous periods (painful, heavy and lasting 10 days or more; sometimes only 4 or 5 days in between) from about six months after last DC was born, when I was aged 32, until I was 49. Then I had a few months where I still had heavy periods, but not so long, and longer gaps in between. Then I had 10 full months of nothing. I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Out of nowhere, I then had another period - 2 heavy and painful days and then it died down. That was the summer of 2013. Since then, I have been clear. I still carry sanpro around with me, though, just in case. And I become slightly anxious if wearing white.

ExitPursuedByABear · 08/09/2015 21:24

It's OK. By the time you get to 56 it won't happen again.

Fizrim · 08/09/2015 21:27

I feel your pain and uncertainty. I get one extremely light period every three months or so. I am either getting hot flushes or hormonal spots and headaches, and this has been happening for the last year. I wish my body would make it's mind up!

Hellocampers · 08/09/2015 21:29

Fucking hell men have it easy! Gits! Wink

SquinkiesRule · 08/09/2015 21:46

I had a three month break at the beginning of the year, I thought that was it, bit no, they came back with a vengeance. I've even had a few two weeks apart. I think my body is making up for having given me a 3 month break. Sad

MollyCarpenter · 08/09/2015 22:06

I've been having two periods a year for the last couple of years and haven't had one for nearly 10 months now and was beginning to think it was all over but last week I had ovulation pain and now my boobs are sore and my tummy is bloated so I think that another period is immanent. Hmm
On the plus side I've not had any hot flushes this week.

Savagebeauty · 08/09/2015 22:10

I had a 32 day bleed after changing to HRT continued to ironically stop me bleeding.Sad

Buxtonstill · 08/09/2015 22:17

48yrs here. None for 9 months, then I bought some beautiful 1000 thread count bedding in pure white. I used them for 3 days. Luckily I hadn't cut up all the old duvet covers as dusters...

Rivercam · 08/09/2015 22:19

If you have unexplained bleeding, then you should get it investigated. It could be a symptom of womb cancer.

I had a period for,the first time in three years, following breast cancer therapy. Fortunately, I don't have womb cancer, but glad I got it checked out.

ImperialBlether · 08/09/2015 22:23

I agree with Rivercam. Although it's annoying, it might be more than that. It happened to me and I was sent to hospital for full investigation. Luckily it was fine and I'm sure it usually is, but they do have to check you out.

knackered69 · 08/09/2015 22:26

46 here -perimenopausal for 3 years -hot flushes and very erratic periods - the works. Didn't have a period for 8 months. Some compensation for the hot flushes and the lively internal thermostat.

Day before I go on holiday to crete, I get a period. A spectacular one. That lasted two weeks.

Bastards. Hmm
