Hospital or???

Daughter has come home like this. She says she has double vision. What should I be doing? AIBU to think A&E? I don't just run there for every little thing, in fact she's 14 and has never been, but I'm not quite sure what to do.

Definitely report this as an assault . Don't let the school sweep this under the carpet , take the decision to deal with the perpetrator right out of their hands . If they let your daughter come home on her own with this injury without contacting you first , let alone providing first aid , then I'd have absolutely no faith in them being able to deal with the cause properly either .

Outrageous . Take pictures . Lots of pictures . Then , if I were you ( in fact I have been you ) , I would arm myself with that , and the results from A and E , and be on the school doorstep in the morning , telling them the matter had already been reported . And if the police appear a little reluctant - and it has been know to happen (and I say that as a police officer who had to argue with another force to get a school assault recorded !) , remind them of their responsibilities under the Home office counting rules section A (which basically says that if it's an actual crime , it must be recorded as one ) and furthermore that in Section B of the same counting rules , which is the school protocol, if it is a crime , it must still be recorded , whether the school deem it as bullying or not , whether they have a set of bullying protocols , or not . Not recording it is a serious matter , for which the police are audited .

When DS was 8 another boy pushed his head down, brought his knee up and in the process broke his glasses. DS was very lucky that his eyes were not damaged. The school was taking the line that the bully came from a difficult family, etc. and while I had every sympathy with a child having a difficult homelife it was only when I mentioned to the Head Teacher that had the child been slightly older I would have been reporting it to the police as assault and that I hadn't entirely ruled out mentioning it to the Police. At that point they then put sanctions in place on the bully and DS didn't have any more trouble with him.

I hope your daughter is OK and that A&E were able to be reassuring.

I agree Maryz. Some people forget that there are real human beings behind the screen. This is her child and she's been injured.
