To ask people to turn off autocorrect

wasonthelist · 04/09/2015 15:26

In the middle of about 80% of juicy AIBU threads is at least one sentence that makes no sense at all, because one or more word(s) has been autocorrected to something totally unrelated. Of course, some can be guessed, but far from all. We are descending into a pit of total gobbledegook.

Too ducking right! Grin

noiwontstoptalking · 04/09/2015 15:29

YABU it's only very rarely that I can't work out the OP's meaning.

FarelyKnuts · 04/09/2015 15:29

Note sorry to lazy Grin

sugar21 · 04/09/2015 15:30

Quite agree with you but I don't know how to turn mine off. Do try to preview though.

DonkeyOaty · 04/09/2015 15:31

Hah yes. On my FB yest someone was called a marble. In an admiring fashion. Wtf.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherReindeerDoes · 04/09/2015 15:31

I thought this yesterday. my mistakes still get through though

GiddyOnZackHunt · 04/09/2015 15:46

Yabu
Quite a few posts are totally incomprehensible without any assistance from autocorrect.

noeffingidea · 04/09/2015 16:19

The first thing I do when I buy a new tablet is turn off autocorrect. It's one of the worst inventions ever, IMO.

pluck · 04/09/2015 16:40

Autocorrect makes typing much longer for me because I preview so it's counter-productive!

Maybe someone will invent a clever "[sic]" app for Android and iOS. It will flag up dodgy/ misspelled words with an old-fashioned [sic] (which means "thus" in Latin Smile)

PosterEh · 04/09/2015 16:42

I am a very slapdash typist, autocorrect is the only thing making my posts legible.

TheWoodenSpoonOfMischief · 04/09/2015 16:43

Yabu. Autocorrections are mostly very amusing.

Mrsmorton · 04/09/2015 16:46

Without autocorrect we wouldn't have weeping bicycle monkeys. For that reason, YABU.

SoleBizzzz · 04/09/2015 16:51

YABDUCKINGU

elbowsdontsing2 · 04/09/2015 16:53

"i was nearly a ginger", should of been "goner" best autocorrect typo ever

FarFromAnyRoad · 04/09/2015 16:54

Funny Autocorrects

MotherOfFlagons · 04/09/2015 16:54

'You're a marble'
'I was nearly a ginger'

Actual lol.

Marmite27 · 04/09/2015 17:00

No, the gem of 'as soon as he *wanked through the door' from the other day wouldn't exist. And that thought makes me sad.

*should have been walked Grin

wasonthelist · 04/09/2015 17:11

I am BU - but I never seem to see the funny ones, just the incomprehensible.

OP posts:
Mrsmorton · 04/09/2015 17:21

Someone typed root anal treatment earlier. Made me LQTM.

lighteningirl · 04/09/2015 17:26

My life would be sadder without the weeping bicycle monkeys for that alone autocorrect must remain

SecretLocker · 04/09/2015 17:37

Please... for those of us who don't know - what's the origin of the weeping bicycle monkeys one?!

Mrsmorton · 04/09/2015 17:38

It's in classics. Something about necky neighbours. Worth a read.

2tired2bewitty · 04/09/2015 17:45

No one would ever have rinsed their minge without autocorrect either Grin
