It makes me cringe. I find it smug. AIBU?

I've just seen 'give your head a wobble' on a thread.

Can't stand it.

Pipbin · 01/09/2015 21:07

Twas ever thus was a film from 1915 en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%27Twas_Ever_Thus

I hate 'bleddy' - why would anyone say that?

I sometimes work with a very posh lady who says "Oh blarty hell" when she's annoyed.

It's only the fact I really like her, that's stopped me from pulling her lungs out through her nostrils.

ImperialBlether · 01/09/2015 21:24

Accent is one thing, but writing is another, usual! Most people have an accent of some kind but we don't write as though we're speaking.

My accent is like a sponge though, in the sense that it changes if I spend time with other people with stronger accents.

One week in Spain and I'm talking broken English for a fortnight afterwards Blush

Usual if it helps, I've been told I sound like Pauline Quirke! Grin

ImperialBlether · 01/09/2015 21:43

But regional words are completely different to accents. I agree with you that regional words are great, but if we all wrote according to how we spoke, it would be chaos on here!

sleeponeday · 01/09/2015 21:44

I think you are a little over-invested, OP.

hoicks pearls

smugly

sleeponeday · 01/09/2015 21:45

When I started on MN I loathed SM. By the end, I loved her. She was so equal ops blunt. Always livened up a thread even when I disagreed completely (especially, quite often).

It took me about 2yrs to stop skipping SM's posts and actually read them.

I'm glad I did because she was hilarious at times Grin

Is it wrong to take some small measure of satisfaction that whenever I post something on MN, somewhere I am pissing someone off?

Bear
bolleauxnouveau · 02/09/2015 13:07

I think it takes a lot of us a long time to realise that whatever we do, we're pissing off somebody, somewhere. Getting pleasure from that realisation may be the path to true happiness.

Hoppinggreen · 02/09/2015 13:20

I hate lol, always makes me think Of someone slumped in an armchair (you know, lolling) rather than laughter

NoMontagues · 02/09/2015 13:29

(DISCLAIMER:

and then some rambling thing that isn't a disclaimer and besides no disclaimer is required, just give your opinion ffs, and also, you clearly have no idea what disclaimer means.

And you're not witty either.

NoMontagues · 02/09/2015 13:30

Double whammy if the whole thing is in strikeout.
