Aibu to complain to a restaurant for advertising a Lady steak?

Restaurant was in Amsterdam but I felt it was patronising to women advertising a twee steak that was edible for a "lady" and also I guffawed as it seemed quite rude too.

I'd say you are being a bit U. Women generally are advised to eat less calories than men so unless you are a body builder, you should be having a smaller bit of steak.
I've seen it a few times and it has never occurred to me to think it sexist.

Yep, definitely sexist and patronising! Plenty of men have small appetites and vice versa. Hate this kind of unthinking stupidness.

Find the TripAdvisor, or equivalent, page and ask: is a Lady Steak a Dutch euphemism? Or is a Lady Steak supposed to be a cute retro dish, harking back to those twee 1950s?

Make it sound like a truly sincere tourist question... and provide us all with a link so we can see what the Dutch take on it is

Too much red meat can increase your risk of breast cancer but other than that it seems ridiculous to label it as a 'lady steak'. I have a friend who always manages a whole chicken when she goes to Nandos and she's dinky.

Perhaps the meat came from a cow, rather than a bullock? (Yes, I doubt it too!)

I'm in two minds really. On one hand its patronising and sexist. But on the other hand like many women, I don't really want to eat massive slabs of meat and would prefer a smaller meat serving and more vegetables. DP always wants a huge bit of meat.

So they're maybe giving their customers what they want, but wording it very badly.

I don't know why they couldn't have offered steaks in different weights and leave out whether it is suitable for a man/woman/child/cat or whatever.

Are you sure it was a restaurant? If I was in Amsterdam and someone offered me a 'Ladysteak' I would be worried about what would appear at table...

If that is your only concern whilst in Amsterdam you might need to open your eyes a little.

I live in South Africa. Seeing a ladies steak advertised is very, very common.

Wonder if it is a Dutch/Afrikaans thing?

Bunbaker... tis fairly obvious that this specific restaurant is fully aware that Ladies can't visualise such information. It's like map reading, innit?

Calling it a Lady Steak takes all the stress out of choosing to each such a manly meal.

Surely you could muster a little bit of gratitude for such thoughtfulness?!?!

Is also say that this is cultural, my Dad was from Dutch background born in SA.

It's a easy understood way of describing it, to many Nationalities.

I've said this before on here, but I can't convince my SA relatives that the use of "Lady", is offensive to some.
