To suggest to people that are taking the piss

Out of one direction regarding their break, that they watch 'Amy' so they can see how exploitative that industry is.

And at the same time keep in mind that they have been touring for three years, and recording albums at the same time. Unlike the rolling stones and Freddie mercury, who feature on stupid memes comparing them to 1D.

Disclaimer - I am not a 1D fan. But this is, IMO, just another case of people thinking it's OK to rip the piss out of other human beings, with no sense of compassion out empathy or stopping to consider what life might be like for them at the moment. Thankfully, for asylum seekers and refugees there seems to be a bit more understanding now than there has been recently.

One Direction have split into all directions Grin #thereisagod

JawannaDrink · 28/08/2015 23:46

You have to be shitting me. Hmm

BlueMoonRising · 28/08/2015 23:47

Grin SugarOnTop, that's one I don't mind. No personal attacks there!

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 28/08/2015 23:48

Have you seriously just compared a boy band to asylum seekers and refugees, or have I lost the plot?

LazyLohan · 28/08/2015 23:48

Oh come on. It's not like they've been locked in a sweatshop toiling for pennies is it? They've done an intense job for a short period because the financial rewards are worth it short term. Just like a lot of junior doctors and barristers.

BrideOfWankenstein · 28/08/2015 23:50
Biscuit
Macadaamia · 28/08/2015 23:51

Eh? What's the op saying?

SilverShins · 28/08/2015 23:51

Have you somehow compared the plight of refugees and asylum seekers to the break up of a boyband there? Hmm

BlueMoonRising · 28/08/2015 23:52

Worra, I knew someone would say that! No, the asylum seekers comment was purely in relation to compassion.

I'm guessing none of you have seen 'Amy' then!

OP posts:
BlueMoonRising · 28/08/2015 23:53

LazyLohan, absolutely right! No arguments there.

But should they have the piss ripped because they are now taking some time off?

OP posts:
YouTheCat · 29/08/2015 00:25

Are you 12? The Rolling Stones have been going since the 60s (and are still going bet 1D aren't around in 3 years never mind 50 years ).

Freddie Mercury has been a bit dead of late. But he is still the greatest showman there ever was. Hmm

I heard that one of 1D was considering taking up acting. Why doesn't he take up singing? Grin

BlueMoonRising · 29/08/2015 00:31

Eh?

The stones and queen both took time off touring and publicity to record their albums. OneD haven't had that.

I'm not sure what aspect of that makes me 12!

OP posts:
YouTheCat · 29/08/2015 00:35

Because you started a thread about 1D, perhaps?

And they are crap.

TendonQueen · 29/08/2015 00:41

I don't think the asylum seeker comparison helps but I can see what you're trying to say. For all the money and adulation they have, I wouldn't swap my life for their goldfish bowl existence.

BlueMoonRising · 29/08/2015 00:42

Do you mean they are crap, their music is crap, or both?

OP posts:
sugar21 · 29/08/2015 00:48

Both!

Fatmomma99 · 29/08/2015 00:48

May be missing point of thread (because 1D are - literally - nothing in my life) but the Amy film is very, very good.

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 29/08/2015 00:50

Why on earth would I feel compassion for them? They chose this life. Ok, they may not have known fully about the industry, but I can't believe anyone of a somewhat mature age doesn't know how shows like the shait factor pick people up, make money from them and spit them out. They got 'luckier' than most, broke America which gave them that little bit extra time. But they must have known, as a boyband (not a group, that bit is important), they had a limited life span. They have their money, still young enough to have some sort of media career if they want - or 'disappear' like most of Take That did if they chose.

Comparing it to having compassion for those who will never have an iota of what these young lads have, that's really not on. They never chose to be in the hellish situation they have found themselves in.

caroldecker · 29/08/2015 00:53

The Beatles recorded the 'Please Please me album in less than 13 hours.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 29/08/2015 00:59

Freddie Mercury has been a bit dead of late That made me lol Grin

I'm pretty sure the reason people are taking the pee and making jokes is because they are a teeny bopper boy band who drive most adults insane, therefore they joke about them splitting and never having to suffer them again.

It's nothing to do with the industry itself and the work that goes in. Regarding that though, the industry has taken a much much greater toll on others.

Hermi0ne · 29/08/2015 01:06

Why should I feel compassion for some teenage boys that make millions with super shitty "music"?? Wtf is wron with people these days!?

LittleMissStresshead · 29/08/2015 01:31

Hmm, some young adults were asked to work very, very hard for a couple of years to be adored by millions and earn (literally) millions and millions of pounds. They have done exactly that and are now taking a break.

Exactly who should I be shedding a tear for here?

Yes, I know the Amy story (and FGS one film does not paint the whole picture, it is an insight but a highly disputed portrayal), very different situation IMO. A group is different to a solo artist. Boys are treated differently in the industry to men. Amy had a shitstorm of family issues behind her, 1D were supported from day one.

Also Amy was a talented songwriter and singer.

Are you upset by the totally unexpected split of a boy band OP? (Headtilt)

BlueMoonRising · 29/08/2015 01:52

LityleMissStressHead,

Wow. Do you work for the media? You'd make a fantastic journalist.

  1. since when did not ripping the piss out of people change to shedding a year for them?

  2. I didn't, FGS, say that Amy was a full account of her life. It's two and a bit hours of very well-put-together footage. I also didn't imply that her story and 1D's were the same. I just think that the film shows how exploitative the industry is.

  3. which part of 'I am not a 1D fan' are you finding tricky to understand? Er, no, I have no emotional ties to 1D or any other boy band for that matter, doesn't matter to me if they never get back together.

OP posts:
BlueMoonRising · 29/08/2015 01:54

sugar21, I thought that would be your response. If have more respect for your opinion if you said their music.

OP posts:
BlueMoonRising · 29/08/2015 01:58

MrsGently, I really wasn't comparing the two situations. Mentioning asylum seekers was purely in regards to compassion. I was saying that there isn't much around, but I was glad to see that actually I have seen an increase in compassion with regards to asylum seekers recently.

With hindsight, I should not have mentioned it, but sadly I am not perfect.
