to be pissed off at the tube drivers for going on strike....

I've got the week off and have planned special things for the dcs including a theatre trip (tickets booked and paid for months ago) and another day out in London with friends, both of these things fall on the worst days of the strike.

Too pissed off for words........

ASLEF the drivers' union is not joining in the strikes next week. However, the RMT, TSSA and Unite are, and it will be Monday before we know if the strikes will go ahead.

I don't disagree with the general principle of the strike as was, in that LU were apparently attempting to push night working rotas on staff with no consultation. This issue has now been (as I understand) partly resolved, but the RMT has attached further demands to their talks with LU, some of which are unlikely to be resolved quickly.

The whole thing is a big mess. LU should have agreed working terms with the unions before announcing night tube services, but the night tube was a political decision and I guess they hoped it could be sorted out if there was a launch date.

In terms of what's going to happen next week, I'd expect the first strike to go ahead snd potentially the second one to be called off but that's totally assumption and guesswork on my part.

BTW compared to the usual farcical reasons for striking, the unions have a point this time - I couldnt imagine that I'd be happy to be told I would be working nights over weekends and not be consulted or compensated for it. But you are NBU to be upset how it will impact your plans

Buses will be running (although rammed) and might be an option. I too may have a really important appointment that I've been waiting ages for cancelled. Not great.

We were in London for the last strike. Started after we went to a matinee and continued the day after. The first day we managed to get on the tube and back to our hotel before the tubes stopped. The next day we took buses. The second day was the worst but we just left earlier for everything and walked. A lot! It was an adventure!

Same here. Have very limited time off this Summer so booked two days next week (theatre and an attraction). Looks like we'll be trekking across London on foot. Near Covent Garden nd Westminster so hopefully fine.

Am dreading the strike , coming home after a week in Plymouth and have to get from Paddington to Kings cross in 40 mins which was fine on the tube but not now, so am going to book a later train now Hmm

I work in London, travelling down by train at 6am, get the Tube from the train to work. I have had to book a hotel Tue, Wed, Thu as I can't be off next week. No idea how I'll get back to Kings X on Friday but that's not a massive concern I suppose. Overall, staying is a bit cheaper than travelling in every day and the place I've found is about half an hours walk from work (though will be carrying three night bag and laptop bag on first and last day).

DP is coming back from the US Fri so he won't be able to get from Heathrow to Kings X easily. And he'll have bigger bags.

It is a pain. I suspect it will be called off.
If it's not, I suspect the things I have to be in work for will be called off because no-one else will be able to get there. But I can only act as if it's all going ahead.

It wouldn't normally be this good value, I managed to find a room in local student accommodation for a uni that is £34 per night, won't get that very often and def not during term time.

I'm coming into Kings Cross about 9pm Thurs evening and have to get to Waterloo. Hopefully bus or taxi.
And I think First Great Western trains are on strike BH weekend

Workers have the right to withdraw their labour if they consider the employer is being unreasonable.

I haven't even planned how I am going to get to and from work this week. Best get out my walking shoes Can't be doing with buses that are packed to the gunnels.

It's over an hour for me to walk from Kings X to where I work. But I can walk for that long, no rush to be home so can stop for a cup of tea if I want to.

There will be buses but from previous strike experience they will be rammed (last time people at work waited over an hour for a bus they could actually get on) and the Santander bikes will all be out as well.

Taxis will also be hard to find.

I agree that workers have the right to withdraw labour, but as I hold the dubious honour of being 'management side' of the longest ever running RMT dispute (and having won a large number of tribunal cases they brought where the judge pretty much told them they had wasted the court's time), I know their tactics and I don't believe a single thing they say. Not all unions are like that but the RMT are dreadful.

I'd forget buses as they will be rammed, and like the previous poster says taxis are rare. if your going in on the day the strike starts you'll stand half a chance with driving (although prebook parking with justpark or someone). But the full day of the strike will be tricky driving in as for some it's the only option.

In Paris (if I remember rightly) when they striked, instead of removing labour they let everyone travel for free. So only hitting managements pockets
