To think we shouldn't have small plane 'airshows'

It seems every year in a small plane at an airshow there's some terrible and tragic accident. 7 people dead so far today. Sad

It's not the same as large commercial craft where out of the thousands of planes every year one or two crashes.

I don't remember a year where one hasn't crashed.

I've been to loads of airshows and have never thought about the planes crashing, probably because I wasn't born the last time any civilians were killed in an accident at an airshow (not taking part in the display themselves).

No- it's your lack of imagination- not your date of birth.

I won't go to air shows for that very reason. In the past I went to some small vintage aircraft shows and always felt very uneasy about possible accidents.

Terrible tragedy. We should only have air shows over the sea or other large bodies of water. No brainer.

LittleRedSparkle · 02/09/2015 13:00

they had an expert on the news after this tragedy and he said

most crashes happen in fields and not by main roads, and they are often able to save the pilot - if crashes happen in water they are quite often not able to save the pilot

catsrus · 02/09/2015 14:05

but the pilot has chosen to fly the plane - they choose to take the risk, that choice to risk their own life is theirs to make. They are not at liberty to choose to risk my life while I'm driving down a road. If they want to take the risk and are so sure of their own skills that they do stunts like looping the loop - then they should do it over water.

Apparently the enquiry will take 2 years.

TalkinPeace · 02/09/2015 17:03

It varies, the Hurricane one was about 18 months.

The good thing about Air Accident inquiries is they are never about assigning blame : they work on the principle of everybody learn from each mistake

An attitude that would save the NHS a fortune.
