to put what is essentially a Chat thread in Aibu because I don't want it to disappear after 30 days? Holiday related.

Wanted to start a thread asking everyone who has been on holiday this year (whatever type of holiday - camping/holiday camp/self-catering/ package/ extremely glamorous/very simple/boutique hotel ... whatever)

  1. what did you forget to take
  2. and what will you add to your list for next year?

I think I will find such a thread useful in 2016 so don't want it to disappear, but all Chat threads do go within 30 days on MN, so unfortunately I've had to resort to Aibu.

Sorry! Flowers

  1. My jewellery
  1. Espresso machine

We went to a campsite in Italy, and the mobile homes didn't have an espresso machine!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 18/08/2015 22:04

I often forget my make-up and phone charger.

FarelyKnuts · 18/08/2015 22:05

Forgot to take a pair of shoes that would be comfortable for walking a lot (because I was trying to save space and luggage weight dammit and flip flops are lighter!)

So next time comfy shoes

Hamishandthefoxes · 18/08/2015 22:08

Euro camp plus tent camping for a couple of days afterwards to break the journey.

The campsite was glorious and we had a fantastic time.

We forgot tent poles. H took them out of the bag to check before we packed and forgot to put them back. We carted a camping stove, a tent without poles, sleeping bags etc to France without using them.

Remember tent poles!

Rarity08 · 18/08/2015 22:09

I forgot to take any towels Blush
Next time I'll take a maxi dress to wear to and from the pool. And towels.

Mintyy · 18/08/2015 22:10

Ha! at espresso machine for mobile home.

I forgot: marmite, rubber gloves, the travel games set, a decent novel (grrrr at the rubbish I bought at the airport last minute) and hair conditioner.

Last year I forgot my swimming costume!

  1. Something warm

  2. Something warm

Ireland is not currently having any kind of summer and I refuse to believe otherwise, despite all the Irish telling me daily that the weather was 'glorious'!

thehypocritesoaf · 18/08/2015 22:11

Phone chargers. Can you imagine the horror?!

LunchpackOfNotreDame · 18/08/2015 22:17

Forgot adapter plug
Will put mosquito bite after bite stuff in

HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 18/08/2015 22:18

A magnifying mirror (eyebrows were horrific after 3 weeks in the sun!)
Adapter plugs

5Foot5 · 18/08/2015 22:20

I am normally a lists person, I even make a list of the lists I need to make ( is that a meta-list?) This year for our holiday in Italy I decided it was probably overkill and we could manage without the lists. So...

  1. We forgot to take plug adaptors which meant the phone chargers were pretty useless. Fortunately we managed to get something that would work from a phone shop on our second day.
RedCrayons · 18/08/2015 22:20

I once went on a walking holiday in Snowdonia with just flip flops.

I always forget to take hair ties and kirby grips.

purplepandas · 18/08/2015 22:24
  1. Forgot mascara on US work trip
  2. Forgot hand cream on camping trip (hands were cracking!)

Remember for next time: magnifying mirror, hand cream and make up.

WicksEnd · 18/08/2015 22:26

I didn't forget it but wish I'd thought to take our portable charger. We always take it camping\caravanning but I didn't think I'd need it for a beach holiday abroad. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but one of us always seemed to be low on gadget charge.

You must bump this thread at the beginning of the 6 weeks holidays Smile

Hassled · 18/08/2015 22:28

I forgot nothing. Zilch. I am smugger than a big bag of very smug things. The level of memory and organisation this year is possibly the outcome of having forgotten adaptor plugs last year.

DonkeyOaty · 18/08/2015 22:31

Sharp knife. Hol cottages never have decent ones and this year did not disappoint. Hurhur.

Also dishwasher tabs - oughtta drop a handful in car glove box

VivaLeBeaver · 18/08/2015 22:33

I forgot bras.

SiobhanSharpe · 18/08/2015 22:40

I am a terrible packer, I take EVERYTHING, (toiletries, medicines and makeup bags need a case to themselves.) We drive almost everywhere as I rarely have enough discipline for air travel, although I can manage long haul where luggage allowances are not quite so draconian.
The car is usually packed to the roof, even though there's just two of us now. But having a car means you chuck it all in - not conducive to good packing.
Last month we had a short city break and I still managed to forget a casual jacket. And it pissed down pretty much the whole time.
Stayed at a posh hotel in Italy last year and was Blush when the porter struggled up to our room with about six manky carrier bags as well as myriad cases, hats, shoes etc.
We are going back soon and I am determined to be more organised.

ladydepp · 18/08/2015 22:53

I always forget something, here are some:

Phone charger
Body lotion
Warm jumper or fleece
Kids' toothbrushes
iPad
Jewellery

Things I manage to remember which are easily forgotten:

Flip flops
Decent book
Laundry capsules, dish cloth and tea towel
Teabags
Belt
Hair bands
Tweezers and nail file
Night retainer
Nurofen

SWFARMER · 18/08/2015 22:56

If you're going camping remember tetra toilet roll!

G1veMeStrength · 18/08/2015 23:00

I didn't forget anything. But next year I am taking my passport and going somewhere sunnier!!

Prelude · 18/08/2015 23:02
  1. Meds out of the fridge Hmm
  1. Next time I'm taking an extension lead along with the travel adapter for the tablets, phones, music players blah blah blah. Maybe two of them.
MmeLindor · 18/08/2015 23:09

We had a whole gadget bag filled with every adapter known to mankind. Except the GoPro one, so DD had to wait till she got home to download her videos.

I never ever forget my phone charger. That'd be like leaving the house without my feet.

Opheliabumps · 18/08/2015 23:16

I forgot to take the pages and pages of stuff I had printed to entertain the kids on the way (car bingo type games).

Next year I will take a map with us, as the sat nav stopped working unexpectedly and we had to struggle through with a small tourist map as I refused to buy yet another Europe road atlas (we have several at home).

Twunk · 18/08/2015 23:18

Didn't forget anything! Totally gobsmacked as there is always something - I thought I'd forgotten the sun cream and used my friends' ones but I even found that eventually.

Agree with pp about sharp knife - I always take one if going to self catering, and a bottle opener too.
