to put what is essentially a Chat thread in Aibu because I don't want it to disappear after 30 days? Holiday related.

Wanted to start a thread asking everyone who has been on holiday this year (whatever type of holiday - camping/holiday camp/self-catering/ package/ extremely glamorous/very simple/boutique hotel ... whatever)

  1. what did you forget to take
  2. and what will you add to your list for next year?

I think I will find such a thread useful in 2016 so don't want it to disappear, but all Chat threads do go within 30 days on MN, so unfortunately I've had to resort to Aibu.

Sorry! Flowers

I forgot the really useful little container that keeps the room card key and money dry when you wear it in the sea.

I have added to the list big pegs to stop the towels blowing off the sunbeds.

The worst thing I forgot was knickers on a 3 week holiday. Won't make that mistake again. It wasn't even a beach holiday.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/08/2015 23:52

Binoculars. Every time, whatever sort of holiday.

Fatmomma99 · 19/08/2015 00:07

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes - us too. Every effing time. Last week, on our way out camping, DH even said "I'm going upstairs to get the binocs". We left without them!!!!!

Spent all 5 days wondering if it was a cow, sheep or rock and failed to watch DD surfing (the point of the trip).

Wish I'd taken pain killers, as turned out I cracked a couple of ribs before leaving home, which camping chairs and airbed did NOT help

Next time, I'm going to take some clothes pegs as would be useful for bin bag, t-towel and getting surfing stuff dry!

Good thread, Mintyy

DH's phone charger. I explicitly told him to pack his (as I needed mine for my 2 phones and Kindle) and did he buggery! I wad not happy at having to share.

Pyjamas.

Every year, no matter where I go!

This year I did manage to take them but they were summer ones.

I almost froze to death in a caravan in Northumberland in 50 mile an hour winds wearing shorts and a vest. It was fricking freezing!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 19/08/2015 10:11

PS I get round the phone charger one now by having a spare one that lives in my toiletries bag. This is permanently packed with travel-sized or decanted stuff, as I would miss something out otherwise.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 19/08/2015 10:16

I have in the past forgotten a dressing gown. Which is ok, until your hotel bedroom starts leaking into the one downstairs at night, and emergency plumbing has to be done, where the bed is in sight of the bathroom, and you only have a skimpy nightie on. Won't do that again!

MaryBerrysEyelashes · 19/08/2015 10:16

Why not in travel

MaryBerrysEyelashes · 19/08/2015 10:17

Always take s costume wherever you're going. Always take cold clothing. Even if Florida.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 19/08/2015 11:13

Travel presumably doesn't get the same volume of traffic. I always pack a warm jumper for this reason Mary.

Mintyy · 19/08/2015 11:36

None of the 9 sub-topics within Travel quite fit the bill.

It's not Travel advice I'm after anyway.

  1. Nothing, I took too much.
  2. Washing tablets. Several smaller bags rather than one monster-sized holdall.
PoppyFleur · 19/08/2015 14:32
  1. I forgot my bikini bottoms and Calpol (both remembered on the drive to the airport but too late to turn back so purchased at the airport).
  1. Small 4 way charging block as so many electrical items to re-charge (phones, tablet, camera battery etc...).
magimedi · 19/08/2015 14:34

A lighter or matches.

Don't smoke anymore but is v useful for singeing loose threads & even for starting bbq.

Hygellig · 19/08/2015 14:42

I didn't take enough warm clothing to Devon and the temperature struggled to get above the teens. I forgot my wetsuit too (more that I didn't think I'd go in the sea much). I think we had everything else we needed apart from maybe some more rainy day toys for the children.

NorbertDentressangle · 19/08/2015 14:46

DP forgot to take enough medication with him. It could have been a nightmare but thankfully I'd told him something I'd read on MN a while ago that saved the day.

A poster on here (thank you whoever you were! Flowers ) had advised taking your prescription (ie. the paper version) with you on holiday if you go abroad to prove that any medication you have with you is for you and that you don't intend to sell it on. As we were were in Europe (and fortunately spoke the language) he was able to get his tablets on prescription there. Phew!

For some reason dh put ds in charge of tech - so we had all the charger cables but only 1 adaptor for trip to US (and we have a houseful he could have taken!) Trip to Walmart sorted that one.
Wouldn't take anything else - but would remind myself next year to not allow dh to do his own packing to come home - left a drawer full of clothes we had to get mailed back.
Note to self - do everything myself next year!
