Her arms just look way too thin, the article is not the greatest photos but a quick google makes her look even thinner.

No. Of course not. I put the words 'duty' and 'care' together not realising I was going to be picked up on the legal implications of that turn of phrase.

I'll rephrase it. She has a duty to be more careful at the messages she gives out bearing in mind her female fanbase. There. [smile}

suzannefollowmyvan · 20/08/2015 19:48

clumsy bit of spin

Roussette · 20/08/2015 19:54

what me? Don't understand what you are saying

RustyParker · 20/08/2015 20:12

A friend of mine saw her arriving at the X Factor auditions and the photos she took showed just how thin Cheryl is. Her arms had the classic signs of an eating disorder and her face looked gaunt.

Cheryl has never been a big girl. She trained as a ballerina and has always had a toned physique with curves so I don't believe this is a natural weight for her at 32 years of age.

sherazade · 20/08/2015 20:17

Why does she have a duty though ? Do beyonce , kim k, nicki minaj, rihanna, all have a duty to be good role models ? They're associated with an industry that promotes extreme body types because this is what gets attention . Size zero gets attention. Fake bums and boobs with unnaturally tiny waists get attention. Protruding ribs get attention. What is the 'x' factor all about ? It's about the 'package- a certain type of look and image along with possible singing talent. Why would the very same people who are at the height of this industry be responsible for instilling positive body image in young women? That in itself is an unrealistic expectation. It is a sad reality that young girls will look up to and idolise such body types but I don't think that means those celebs have a moral duty to stay within the normal weight range for this reason .

jeronimoh · 20/08/2015 22:19

Does snoopdog have a duty? My ds thinks he's amazing. So do I blame snoopdog if my ds takes up weed?

Why do female artists seem to have this 'duty' to be role models?

Unhappyuser · 20/08/2015 22:29

I don't think she is too think, most people are too fat

Lurkedforever1 · 20/08/2015 23:35

None of us know what she's eating. But starving people don't keep lean muscle to that degree. That's just not how it works. And ballerinas don't usually have toned physiches with curves. They have very low body fat and lean visible muscles and ribs etc. Like anyone who seriously trains.
Curves have sod all to do with thin or fat, if you're naturally curvy you'll be so whether thin or fat. Funny how the overweight need to hit the morbidly obese bracket before anyone is even allowed to hint they're not ideal role models. And even then people don't start slagging them off.

SuckingEggs · 20/08/2015 23:40

What really pisses me off about these "too thin" threads is that it's taboo to say the opposite.

Instead, the phrase "real women" is usually used...

Insane.

TheStoic · 21/08/2015 02:04

I will never, ever, ever understand the mindset that makes it OK to pass judgement - and actually comment out loud - about someone else's body.

I just do not get it.

msgrinch · 21/08/2015 02:41

She looks perfectly normal to me, probably the lower end of healthy bmi. People are so used to seeing overweight as normal. Humans are supposed to have defined ribs and muscle.

suzannefollowmyvan · 21/08/2015 07:54

normal for back in the days when it was normal to be slim
put against the average man or woman of today she does look shockingly slender

Roussette · 21/08/2015 08:02

I doubt she is the lower end of healthy bmi, I would imagine that in real life her body is similar to that of a prepubescent teen, she is shockingly thin and pictures always put on pounds.

It's not a female issue, I would be saying the same if it was a shockingly thin man on the panel of Xfactor that lots of young kids looked up to. She is adored and feted and every bit of her is picked over on a family saturday night telly show. Yes it's an unrealisti expectation here but I still have it!

Norfolknway · 21/08/2015 08:06

I think she's beautiful.
I'd be over the moon to look like her!

TheHappinessTrap · 21/08/2015 08:11

Is this the person who used to be called Cole or do they just look alike?

Spilose · 21/08/2015 08:33

Yes it's Cheryl tweedy / Cheryl cole

suzannefollowmyvan · 21/08/2015 08:38

oh!
I had no idea
I wonder if she still has cankles?

AliceScarlett · 21/08/2015 09:44

-struggling to not start a thread named "To think Jo Brand is way to fat-. No one needs that drama Biscuit and I love Jo Brand Angry

silverglitterpisser · 21/08/2015 11:00

But Jo Brand ^is^ fat, Alice, n I would say so on said thread as I would if it was Christopher Biggins but I wouldn't b shocked as they've always been overweight whilst I've known of them.

Cheryl looks unhealthy, as do Jo n Christopher but with Cheryl, it is a recent change n seems quick, I can't think of an example of someone gaining weight as rapidly but it would say the same thing to me - health concern.

Lurkedforever1 · 21/08/2015 12:58

Agreed silver they aren't the best examples. The closest example I can think of would be naming and shaming average build size 12s who are fine and healthy but at the bigger end and calling them overweight. Like Cheryl is at the smaller end of fine and healthy but is being called underweight. And then calling the size 12's bloaters, lardy, unattractive, fat, elephant like etc and point out any visible fat and comment on how undesirable it is. Like calling Cheryl boney, unattractive, skeletal, gaunt, childlike and pointing out her ribs and commenting on how it's undesirable. And then assuming the size 12 is greedy and never stops eating and has a mh issue causing it. Again, the reverse of assuming she's starving herself and doesn't eat and has anorexia nervosa. And then say what a bad role model the size 12 is and how we'd hate our kids to look like that. Getting the picture?

Personally I think we're all different and I couldn't give a fuck if someone is at the plump end of healthy. Nor would I even want to join in making silly unfounded guesses about the mh or eating habits of someone actually an unhealthy weight. I certainly wouldn't want to make snide remarks about the appearance of someone morbidly obese let alone someone who is just a different body type and at the larger end of big. However clearly other people think differently, discussing fat, nevermind a bit plump must never be done, but they're fine to have open season on thin.

Branleuse · 21/08/2015 13:04

she looks fine.

I don't get what's so....I don't know, interesting about her?
I saw a photo of her posing in black trousers and wearing a vest. She HAS lost a LOT of weight and it does not look good. She looks gaunt. Personally I think it's slightly attention seeky of her to pose wearing next to nothing after losing so much either intentionally or otherwise. Then she wonders why people are commenting about her weight?? C'mon!!!!

Roussette · 21/08/2015 17:46

I agree. She wore an outfit showing off her midriff - why would you do that if you had lost a lot of weight and not wanted to - strange. If it was out of your control you would want to cover up the fact not flaunt it.

silverglitterpisser · 21/08/2015 19:12

I personally couldn't give a shiny shite whether celebs weigh 4 stone or 40 but if put for debate I will say yes appears very underweight / overweight etc. It's just an honest opinion from a health perspective (from me).

I don't agree that thin people r fair game? If anything I c so much more fat hating, it shocks me. Both r equally wrong of course n many people will b looking at Cheryl just to snipe n would do whether fat or thin, but she doesn't look healthy at this point afaic.
